From what I've heard, there was an announcement of a Death Note spin off film coming out. I'm kinda shady about the details myself, but if anyone knows please post it here.

There are three movies.
One of them was released a month ago. (third one)

First movie : Death Note The Movie
Second movie : Death Note : "The Last Name"
Third movie : "L: Change the World"

The first and second movie are based on the manga, but are little diffrent by story and ending.
The third movie is original, it's a movie what shows the last 23 days of L.

Here are some links about them :

* Wikipedia Death Note The Movie / The Last Name (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Death_Note_(film)).

* Wikipedia L : Change The World (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/L:_Change_the_WorLd).

I wouldn't want to watch the movie. It's the same as the Anime.. Isn't it?

I saw the first two movies and I must say they were excellent. Extremely well casted, acted, and was directed beautifully. L Change The World actually looks really good and I want to see it. Anyone who hasn't seen the first two DN movies should watch it.

I saw the first one. It was in Japanese with subtitles, so the anime is easier to follow from the aspect that it can be seen in English. They did a really good job doing a CGI of Ryouk, but the cartoon version makes it seem more natural than the film did.

Agreed. I think the first two movies were awesome as well. Many Death Note fans don't give it enough credit. The movies did an excellent job of wrapping up the general idea of what Death Note is, and introducing it to the public. Even my younger sisters (who had no idea what Death Note was before watching these films) enjoyed it.

Not really. There's no time jump so there's no Mello or Near. Also, the characters of Higuchi, Takada, and Mikami were merged into one (being Takada herself.) So, yeah. it IS the anime, but like an anime from the manga, (this being MOVIE from manga), there are always little differences.

You should watch it, though. They are very good films. But, I have not seen the L movie yet. But believe me, I want to!!! :p

the movies are not as good as the series, but they're not that bad.

pros:
-ending of the last name is probably one of the best plot twists ever.
-L doesn't seem to be able to read people's minds.
-confident and suspicious (as in the movie) is a better description of a former federal agent seeking revenge (naomi) than lonely and desperate (as in the series).
-takada is a good replacement for one of the most boring parts of the series.
cons:
-i realize how the young japanese actors have ruined japanese cinema, but this has got to be one of the worst acted movies i've ever seen. and it's not even that so-bad-it's-good kind of acting! some scenes are overacted, some scenes are underacted,... and i do realize misa is hyperactive or something, but come ooooon!
-in the series we could envy light. he was 17, he was the smartest kid in his school and on a few occasions, he proved to be a decent rival for L. in the movie, L is always one step ahead of light, always sees right through him, and light seems to be much less of a rival for him... and eventually, the poor, poor light is the one who loses the battle.
-it lacks character development: why exactly does light hate criminals? was that reason really good enough to make him start killing people? why exactly does L want to catch light so bad? those are some of the questions we never get an answer to.

the bottom line is: if they added one extra hour to each movie and found the better actors or took a few more takes, the movie would have been able to reach the heights of the series. however, matsuyama did a good job as L, so i'm looking forward to the third one.

I would like to know where i can d/l these movies. I only have Part One of one of them :(

From what I've seen, I feel that L was acted incredibly well. I did enjoy it, but would rather see the series before making an educated decision.

Any help would be appreciated

:o I didn't know they had a third movie out...! I'll have to try to find it somewhere. I thought the other two were ok, really could have used the time jump to have near and mellow and L shouldn't have been smarter than Light but they were still pretty good movies nnone the less. I hope they end up coming out in english so they'd be easier to follow

The first Death note movie went through selected theatres in america May 20-21, it was dubbed by Viz and used the voice actors from the anime dub. It also had some pretty interesting extras after the movie. They should probably release at least the first movie on american dvds soon.

I really liked the first 2 movies. I was surprised at how well the CGI was done at times and the actor who played L was great. Just creepy enough and yet still full of justice. I can't wait to check out the third.

I got super pissed off when they did that special in theaters for two days thing. I went to go see it at the local theater where the internet said it was playing, and they told me, no thats going on up in another city a long ways away. I got mad and ended up seeing Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull. Im have got to buy all three next time I go up to Seattle, I know a store up there that probably has them.

I wouldn't want to see any of the live action movies. No one could capture L's cuteness and light's hottness! But if you want to see something funny then go on to www.youtube.com and search Ryuk's bringing sexy back. It's short but you get to see the live action chracter playing Ryuk dance to sexy back! LOL

but even tho, i still never saw the moive yet.
i have watched the complete anime series tho

and it was A TERRIBLE ENDING. the ANIME SUCKED.
i mean all that yakkity yak clever talk smart thinking blah blah...
and Light still gets out-smarted by a 10 year kid.. and dies??
