Sort of I guess at least they had the correct vechles for each transformer in a sense. They also got the whole boy meets robot and become friend thing too so in a way yes it does live up to it

first I have to say I have never seen the actual cartoon. I have watched the original cartoon movie though. In my mind the new movie was just the flashy effects and it kinda sold out by focusing on the kid more than the robots.

Also is this even the right forum for this?

It would be the right forum because this is comparinf the movie to the actual anime...

I was 4 when Transformers Came out, I loved the show when I was a kid and I still do to this day, I have seen every series that has been released in the US and hasn't been Released in the US such as Headmasters(season 4) Masterforce (Season 5) and Victory(Season 6), after 21 years I was so excited to see the movie since I saw the first one in 86, even my parents loved this movie and were all looking forward to seeing number 2 next year

I don't really fully remember the cartoon but the bits that I did remember I kind of can conclude that it did live up to the cartoon. I loved the animation put into the movie. That alone deserves to be rated as a good production spin off of the cartoon. I enjoyed the movie, it rocked!! Oh, I also think they did a great job with the voice over actor selections, especially for Optimus Prime!!! Awesome vocals!!

Peter Cullen provided the Voice of Optimus Prime for the Movie, as well as the G1 Series from 24 years ago, man I fell old after typing that, wow 24 years since Transformers first began in the US

I thought the way they did the bodies when in robot mode looked messy in the movie. I like the way the mecha in the cartoon were in solid sections. The way they did it in the movie made them look trashy.

I love the show so much! Especially the beast wars! After watching the movie, I don't think it lives up to the awesomeness of the show

Well, I guess they did a pretty decient redo of the storyline. I mean I would have loved to see them just stay true to the exact storyline of G1, but in all reallity there was no way they were going to be able to convey that in a shortened movie format.

I came out satisfied after seeing it.

I will always like the animated motion Picture from the 80's however, as the best. The fight between Optimus and megatron in that one was freakin cool on the big screen.

In my own little opinion. I prefer the cartoon.
The live action was great but I liked the cartoon better. Always have.
