I think the first real battle between Vagita and Goku was the most intense.
When he turned into his huge ape-man-self and was crushing Goku alive.

Yes indeedee! When Gohan had a busted left arm, he struggled for like, 2 epsiodes trying to overpower Cell with his Kamehameha wave(sorry, wrong spelling). That was actually the most intense 2 episodes of DBZ I've ever seen. Darn, I wish Gohan would've just finished Cell when he had the chance, and before Goku had to sacrifice himself.

Question: Why didn't Goku just use Instant Transmission to send Cell somewhere else?...perhaps another planet, that's not King Kai's home? I know Goku can't breathe in space, but it's only for a brief few seconds though. Just curious.

Yeah, Goku had a really tough time beating Frieza in the middle of their fight. If it weren't for him turning Super Saiyan, he'd be soooo doomed, 'cause even at 50% of his max, Frieza was beating the living stuffing out of Goku. Since Goku turned SSJ1, his power level increased like, 45 fold, more than enough to beat Frieza.

Gohan vs. Ultra Perfect Cell was my favorite. It had emotion, action, and kept everyone involved at the end (in the Anime anyways, since in the Manga Vegeta and Goku are really the only ones who help Gohan).

Goku must IT to somewhere where he can sense energy from, and he didn't have enough time to really try and find another Planet besides King Kai's. Plus, he trusts King Kai to understand more so than any other random race had he taken Cell to another Planet.

Goku could have just IT'ed into space, and then IT'ed back to Earth real quick, but then that would ruin the plot lol.

Exactly LOL. There are a lot of times where things could have been easier for them, but some things aren't allowed to make perfect sense, in order to keep a good plot lol.

Yeah, I guess that's what made this particular fight history. If Frieza never killed Krillin and injured Piccolo, and if Gohan wasn't there, and if it was just the two, Goku probably would've been finished off. I mean(correct me if I'm wrong), but doesn't it take intense anger or emotion, you've reached your limit and you must be part saiyan and be strong enough to become Super Saiyan? A few things wouldn't of played out so well if G, K, and P weren't there. And besides(before Goku went SSJ1), Frieza couldv'e destroyed Goku, if he hadn't give nhim soooo many chances, especially that Spirit Bomb, how stupid is Frieza not to recognize that ball of energy above him? Just saying.:)

Evil king Piccolo vs Goku in Dragonball the first. It was Goku's very first life or death fight. All of Piccolo's minions you knew would lose. It was when Goku really became the dominant force on earth, surpassing both his teacher roshi and the Demon lord that killed Roshi's teacher. He had to think on his feet and developed an attack able to kill the tyrant Piccolo. It was overall a Great fight.

I also Like Goku vs Piccolo jr. in the world tournament. It was a cool fight and finally goku won a tenkaichi budokai. It was a great time for dragonball, back when the fights were more than just light shows.

Goku Versus Freiza just because that is the breakthrough and when we first see Super Sayan

The funny thing about Goku and Frieza's battle is that they each had the oppurtunity to destroy each other. When Goku first arrived, and started to fight Frieza, Frieza was at 1% of his max and Goku was pretty much giving it like 75-80%. Then Frieza went 50% and Goku had no chance. If Frieza didn't give Goku the chance to finish the Spirit Bomb and turn SSJ1, then he could've destroyed him, but chose to let him develop his powers out of arrogance. Now, if Goku didn't allow Frieza to go 100% of his max, then the battle could've gone sooo much smoother, but as noble and honorable as Goku is, he wanted to beat Frieza at his best(he's a Saiyan after all, and the situation was serious). Frieza's body couldn't take the strain in controling all that power, so his body started to give in, thus giving Goku the advantage again, since SSJ1 doesn't have any negative affects.

With Cell, Picollo, along with Trunks and Krillin could've(maybe) beaten Cell, if it weren't for him using the Solar Flare in desperation to get away. And if the Androids just listened to Picollo's and Android 16's warnings, then Cell wouldn't of absorbed 17. And that thick headed Vegeta in his new SSJ1 stage 2 form could've beaten Imperfect Cell form 2 20 x over, but decided to toy with him, and then Cell exploited of Vegeta's biggest weak point(a good challenge, and the fact that some of Vegeta's cells had been integrated into Cell's own body). That Vegeta let Cell absorb 18 and that Krillin smashed the very remote control in which could very well deactivate Android 18. And Gohan could've beaten Perfect Cell in his SSJ2 form, but decided to make him suffer for his crimes against humanity, how noble, but a little narrow. But I still think that the fight between SSJ1 Goku and Frieza is the greatest in DBZ history(besides Perfect Cell vs. SSJ2 Gohan).

I didn't like the Goku vs. Frieza battle, actually, too much stare-downs for me. That time when Goku was all "Kaaaameeeehaaamee....." for like 2 minutes I was waiting for the HA! and the blast, but it was just staring =/
BUT I did love the final battle in DBZ vs. Kid Buu, I was giddy through the whole thing.

Hercule vs Kid Buu. Man, Hercule fighted with honor and pride against Kid Buu even knowing that he is infinitelly more powerful than him and also that he would be died with a single punch. He did a character key to Goku recovers him energy and finish Kid Buu with a Spirit Bomb.

In my oppinion, that battle between Hercule vs Kid Buu is the greatest fight of all DBZ.

One of my personal favorites is the fight between Piccolo and 17 before Cell attacks them. It was arguably the closest battle in all of DBZ and would have had an amazing ending had Cell not intervened.
