I used to love dragonball z before but I only like it up to the cell saga, the whole android storyline was the best. After Gohan defeats Cell. DBZ turned so rubbish I mean its unbelievable, the Saiyaman saga was one of the worst sagas ever, the plot was plain stupid.
The best sagas were the saiyan saga, namek saga, captain ginyu saga, frieza saga, trunks saga, android saga, imperfect, perfect cell saga and cell games. After the Cell games it all went downhill. I just stopped watching it in middle of the majjin buu saga.

Once Buu came into the picture is when I called it quits. It just kept going and going.

Personally if i had any complains it would b with DBGT not DBZ. I quite enjoyed the buu saga, the ssj3 transformation was awsome and i liked it how he just kept getting stronger and stronger, everytime u thought he was going down he just kept coming bigger and badder. My only complain about that saga would b mystic gohan especially since that power evaporated on GT lol .

So basically, you love everything before the Buu saga? I kind of agree that there really wasn't any point in starting the Buu saga, other than SSJ3 though.

Totally agree, Buu was the worst villian and the Saiyaman saga was just horrible.

The Cell Saga presented the PERFECT ending to the entire Dragonball series. The ultimate enemy was defeated, their futures were changed, and all of them (Except Goku) lived through the ordeal.
But no. They HAD to make another, just to milk the series for what it's worth. I watched maybe a few episodes after Cell Saga, then just stopped altogether.

Well, this just shows how people tastes are different...
Personally,I enjoyed in complete DBZ,I loved every episode of it (excluding fusions,I sooo hated that ability)...
Buu saga was unnecessary indeed, but I enjoyed in it...
The tension of SSJ3,Buu's shapes and his love for candies...
It was exciting and hilarious...
But I agree on term of Cell saga being the best...
Especially...Gohan's "awakening"...that event was priceless...

Didn't Goku say that he could've beaten fat Buu in his SSJ3 form? Though, it would take a lot of energy to maintain that form(and the fact that he's dead, means the more he remains in his SSJ3 form as a dead person on Earth, the less time he has on Earth in his 24 hour visit). I don't understand the purpose of the Buu saga either. I forgot what history the villain had in the series.

I only have seen the Cell Saga before with bits and pieces of the other sagas.
But I thought the ending to the Cell Saga was good enough and the anime didn't need to be continued. I guess people just wanted to see more fights and more powerups.

I agree, sorry to the Buu fans. Buu was kind of an unessential character. I believe he was in there for comic relief, besides a villain.

Buu saga was pretty clear overkill, but it did have some good moments, and more of Mr. Satan (not beeing full of himself much as earlier)!
Also, ending with Cell saga would leave careful watchers with unanswered questions...
Gokus death,Vegeta loses his fighting spirit, how will earth be defended if there's another crisis,etc.etc.
If there were no Buu saga,Vegeta would remain with hatred towards Goku, and in Buu's saga we see those two working together, and Vegeta's confession ^^
The Buu saga is the final stage of Vegeta's character development,so that's another plus for me ^_^
Sure, there are holes in plot, and I personally disliked super power of children (and their foolish fusion),it may be too long, but it was ok...
DBZ didn't turn to "rubbish". DBZ always was rubbish.

DBZ didn't turn to "rubbish". DBZ always was rubbish.
The only rubbish, was the constant fillers.
The only rubbish, was the constant fillers.
No. The only rubbish was a bunch of roid raging men in tight suits who turned into spikey haired hulks any time they disagreed with someone to have a fight to the death.
Goku: I believe that Barack Obama's opinions on the free market and national economic security actually make good points about our modern society.
Vegeta: I voted for Hilary!!!
*Start kicking the crap out of eachother at lightspeed. Goku kicks Vegeta through 52562.7 mountains and absorbs everyones soul to obliterate the Earth for the good of mankind*
The entire show was based off nothing but who's beating up who and who will ultimately rule the world. I mean, in all those battles Goku practically destroys half of the Earth in the mere process of saving it! It doesn't even make sense.
Goku (a thread away from death): Yes, we've defeated Frieza...Mankind is saved
Android 1, 2, 3, 4, 17, 22, and 55: This planet looks like the perfect place to enslave!
Goku: Noooo! (Turns Super Saiyan Jin 2.5 and starts kicking everyone into boulders and shooting blasts at anything and everything)
Goku: Yes, I've defeated that large group of androids that came out of nowhere. Humanity is saved...
Cell: Hey! I think I'm going to absorb all of these androids that guy just defeated and try to enslave mankind!
Goku: Ah, son of a...(30 episodes of Cell and Goku kicking the crap out of each other while Cell reaches 55 new forms and Goku reaches Super Saiyan Kamaheheha Wooo Jin 4.0)
All DBZ fans watching at home: Yay! More pointless excessive violence and a single battle that takes 40 episodes as usual!
Goku: At least now humanity is safe...
Bibbity, Buu, and you know who: Hehehehe! Lets waste another 120 episodes of Buu going through endless stages while I try to rule the world. Buu...what are you doing!!?
Buu: WOOOOO HOOO! (Starts blasting the Earth into Oblivion)
That and the fact that the entire show is based off who is the strongest
Goku: OH NOEZ! VEGETA'S BATTLE LEVEL BE AT 36500987621!!!
Vegeta: LOL @ GOKU
Goku: We must fight for five episodes to see who is stronger for the seventeenth time!
Vegeta: Yes! And let our excuse for this pathetically weak episode be that I am now Majin Vegeta!
Goku: Sounds reasonable to me! (Starts blowing up the entire galaxy)
The only crap episodes were fillers? The entire series is pretty much nothing but fillers. Nothing but excuses to have gratuitously violent fight scenes and save Earth for the 7869th time.

I can't really defend DBZ that well (since I only saw one saga), but usually the villain wants to destroy the entire Earth and a bunch of other planets too. So Goku destroying half the Earth (which I really don't think he is, the Earth is quite big) is better than having some powerful villain going around and making even more destruction.
Besides, they can restore the Earth and the people with the DragonBalls.
But there is probably some character development. The fighting is the majority of the episodes, but from what I gathered, Vegeta (and maybe some other characters) have changed somewhat throughout the anime.

But if Goku destroys half the planet with Piccolo or Kami, they'd have no Dragonballs. And then they'd have to go to Namek(or new namek, after Frieza came along). And yes, there is some character development, but it just takes a while(all the sagas that is).

I have one thing to say about this.
The only episode I ever saw was a stadium fight between two of the characters. Episode starts out with them shooting into the air, And punching each other. The second punch is in Slow motion, and you see different angles of the punch, the spit flying from their mouths, thousands of replays, exclamations of surprise form the watchers. That was just stupid I thought to myself, and then the credits are coming, they just spent one WHOLE HOUR going over different angles of SPIT!
This was a few years ago, and I haven't seen it since.

Hey! I thought the Saiyaman bumbling was like a good dose of the old Dragonball.
I'm curious about something. I liked all the gratuitous humor revolving around saiyaman, Hercule, Roshi, etc, but I also liked darn near all of Dragonball.
If you despise Saiyaman, do you also dislike Dragonball in all its trippy glory? To me, the two seemed pretty similar...
I will agree though that the Buu debacle was definitely not the best part of the franchise and that GT is shamefully shoddy.

I think that the fight between The Great Demon King Piccolo and Goku was the first real dosage of power struggles that began this insane trip that includes ki, chi, energy, and a LOT of punching.
.... Also, Mr. Popo is the greatest worrior of all time, and has the power to at least defeat Friza.

I think the Saiyaman Saga lacked action. It was ok, I think, since it was entertaining to me, but by far, the Trunks/Android/Cell Sagas were my favorites. I never really watched all of DBZ from the beginning, but it was the Trunks saga that really got me into it.
The problem witht he Buu saga: Goku is in it.
If they gave the show something fresh by having Gohan be the hero, it would have been a better series.

I totally disagree. U have to realise that the Saiya-man saga, although not a filler, is close to one! It simply showed Gohan growing up and the life he had without his father plus we got introduced to Goten. A moment like that is called comic relief and in my mind, although the plot it not exciting (but still funny, like when u see Vegeta be a father to Trunks lol) it's a bit harsh to say DBZ became rubish because of a few relaxed episodes. In my mind the Naruto fillers were WAY WORSE, but Naruto is still one of my favourite anime of all time. (although I just skipped the fillers).
The Android saga was my least fav Saga. It was good, but I didn't enjoy it as much as The Saiyan Saga, Frieza Saga and Buu Saga.(p.s. it can't have turned rubbish coz the series is already over. It "became" rubish, lol. :) sorry :P unesasry comment there...

I'll say this much, the show was more less made up as it went along, I've heard that from interviews with Akira Toriyama, the show is a spin off of a dragon seed legend from a long time ago. He just fabricated a show out of it, and kept going until sales started to slow. So with that in mind, making it up as you go, you're bound to run into some ridiculous or just plaing stupid parts. GT, in my opinion wasn't really neccessary, or the last bit of DBZ with the reveal of Ubuu. But that's just one saps opinion.:ninja:

That, friend, is how it was meant to be before the Goku-Fan-Force became belligerent and obsessive.
Goku was killed by Cell, and he should have stayed dead. This was the plan. The Goku worshippers, though, wanted Toriyama to deal Goku, so he compromised and gave them Goten, who is no more than a little, identical replacement. When the Goku users still demanded a glimpse of their idol, Toriyama gave them a tournament and disaster featuring Goku.
Afterwards, Goku left, leaving the youngins to inhereit the family business.
Once you're hooked on Goku, though, you're pretty much hopeless. The fools continued to demand more Goku and so, under constant fan pressure, Toriyama caved in, called it quits, and ended Dragonball, which was, by then, little more than a Goku-festival with supporting cast whose names were easily forgotten.
TOEI merely continued this with GT for profits' sakes, as any sound corporation would.

Aww, I didn't know people hated Goku so much.
I don't hate him, I just got tired of him and the formulaic stories that always were centered on the much vaunted Goku. After a while, it became quite tiresome to see him fight the same enemies in the same manner as he had for the past 200 episodes or so.
I think the whole series could have become more innovative if Goku and his simplistic, monotonous character were discarded for the most part.
