What is your most hated, "character type" in romance anime? I personally hate the stereotypical flat characters.

I hate the shy weird girl type. I don't understand how a guy could like someone like that in anime.

I too hate the shy weird girl types. Add ten more hate points on if they have glasses and big breasts. >_>
Another girl type I hate is the violent clingy jealous type. Add 100 hate points on if the boy she loves is her cousin or brother. As a wise man said, you are surely a masochist if you like this type of girl. o_o
I also hate the nice, girlish "princely" guy type who is only capable of showing two emotions: happy or sad. Grow a pair!! Geeze! Mama's boys...that's what they are. D:<

Characters like Hatsumi from Hot Gimmick - a pathetic doormat that lets her stupid boyfriend boss her around. The girl needs a backbone!! I liked this manga till I read the ending.

I seriously don't like the silent-type of girls OR the girls who are so stupid that they ask about every simple thing.

I hate the type that secretly like the main character but treat them like crap and denying that they like them until some new guy/gal come along and catches the main characters eyes and some how they get the nerve to be jelous and try to take back the main charactor

To me, there's a huge difference between a girl being cute, and just plain annoying and unappealing. I hate the annoying girls, but love the cute girls!;) If I had an innocent girl like that by my side, then I would feel the need to protect her at all costs!

Girls who are TOO shy, SUPER crybaby and probably damsels in distress. It's making girls so hopeless. I like the strong, hyperactive, stubborn and numb type.

I agree with blackrosetwilight, like the girl from Midori no Hibi. I forgot her name. Is it Natsumi? Bah, it's something like that. I also dislike the crybaby, weak, perverted, annoying, clingy, too kind, jealous, two-faced, hopeless and mental bully types. They just make me sick. I prefer the optimistic and calm types.

I hate characters who lack personalities - Ernst from Angelique and Yukitaka from HaruToki 2 spring to mind. Although I can't give examples of their lacking in personality because they...quite simply...lack it :S
I also hate the over the top unecessarily bouncy/funny/stupid characters. It's not funny. It's just stupid. Those characters get the skip button on my DVD player.
And I hate Mary Sues. The biggest hate being Noike from Tenchi Muyou OVA part 3. I'll spare the rant on the subject here, but she's the worst anime mary-sue I've ever come across...even worse than some I've seen in fanfiction :S
I suppose it's probably true that Noike is my most disliked anime character of all ^_^.

I hate the anime girls who are teens or adults and cry all the time, always needing some guy to pick them up.
I don't like anime guys who are stubborn to their own feelings, knowing that they feel a certian way.
Anime character who are always bouncy for no reason also tick me off, unless their cute, don't cry as much, and can stand on their own two feet.

I too don't like the shy weird anime girls. They won't get any guys by being that way, in my opinion.

There is a point that every long running anime hits where they run out of story and main charictors to explore. thats when the worst thing to hit a anime apears the dreaded 'Filler Charictor' this is when they try to introduce a new main charictor. i hate that guy/girl.

Agreed I hate the defenseless women, same in shonen-ai and shoujo-ai hate when one is so weak that the other must take care of the other (if that made any sense)

I don't know how to describe it, but I hate the girls whom think that every person should be below them, I guess I hate the high class "everything belongs to me and that includes you" type.

Agreed.
Asuka from evangelion especially. I don't think I have ever hated a character so much. Every episode with her in it I was like "Get over yourself! Narcissistic ******!"
Edit: though not from a romance anime, I still hated her the most.
Also what do you all have against the shy wierd girls? Although one thing that really does get me is that how these characters can be ridiculously good looking and still be so shy. Cause you know that's not the way it works. When you are that good looking, no matter how wierd you are, other people won't let you be shy for very long.

a snob? but yeh, thats annoying.
so stupid that they ask about every simple thing.
most annoying by far.
and the too obsessed type. Like Kotonoha of School Days. She's so depressing near the end. (but its a bit acceptable since she's in love and all)

I don't know...they're just annoying and weak. They have no backbone.
OOOH you know what other type I hate? The "prince" type who's actually a *complete* womanizer. They tend to have blond hair (styled badly) and carry a rose wherever they go and always give off the "I am gay" vibes. The only character who's managed to pull this off and be awesome is Tamaki and that's because those aren't his true colors anyway.

Characters who are idiotic.
I like Asuka from Evangelion. Shinji annoys me and I think Asuka should dominate him some more. Rei, odd as it may seem seems too normal of a person to me.

I can't believe I forgot to mention that I hate... HATE stuck-up little kids who think they're smarter than everyone else, yet these brats are just totally useless to the series and are there for pure annoyance.:banghead: I want to kill them all. Starting with Chibi-Usa.

Lol I've always sympathsized with crybabies I guess because I am one. Sometimes we're just too sensitive. And depending on our mood that day, we will cry over the STUPIDEST things.
There are two character types in particular that I absolutely loathe, although in reality they are manifestations of the same character archetype, that is, the idealized character. Here I will explain the two different gender manifestations of the idealized character.
Female: The ‘childhood friend’: there is one in almost every male targeted romance anime. This is the girl who you know from the absolute start is going to be the one the guy chooses. She usually has no personality flaws, and if she does, they are so superficial or minor that they usually do not count and are actually considered to be good points.
This character is usually either a complete emotional doormat or a totally flat and boring character. They also are more likely to be the main female lead, and therefore if you ever search for images or wallpapers or something along those lines, they are EVERYWHERE!
Examples of ‘childhood friend’: Ayu (Kanon), Kamagishi Akari (To Heart)
Male: The ‘tall dark and mysterious’: This character has very similar traits to the ‘childhood friend’, they have no personality flaws whatsoever, but this is increased with the fact that he is usually capable of feats of incredible physical strength and prowess. He can tame a wild, bucking bronco even though he has never even seen a horse in his entire life.
Also, like the ‘childhood friend’, you also know right from the outset that he is going to be the character the female lead chooses. What is worse is, even more than the ‘childhood friend’ the writers are more likely than not to absolutely shove down your throat the idea that this is the single greatest guy in the universe.
Examples of ‘tall dark and mysterious’: Matsura Yuu (Marmalade Boy), Lantis (Magic Knight Rayearth), Chiba Mamoru (Sailormoon).
And for the record, here are the character archetypes I tend to like.
Male: The Imperfect Foil (Rival): This character is a lot like the ‘tall dark and mysterious’, sometimes he even looks a little like him. Except for one major difference. He usually has major personality flaws. He can often be aggressive or very brash, or possibly have a slight lack of maturity. These flaws are usually made to show the lead female character how great the ‘tall dark and mysterious is’.
He is often used as the main romantic rival of ‘tall dark and mysterious’ and very often he is successful until the last section of the anime. The character has very strong good qualities but also major flaws, which I also like since it adds that third dimension that ‘tall dark and mysterious’ lacks.
Examples of ‘Imperfect Foil’: Tsuchiya Kei (Marmalade Boy), Kou Seiya (Sailormoon), Satoshi Miwa (Marmalade Boy).
Female: The ‘hotheaded tomboy’: The hotheaded tomboy is an interesting character. Like the ‘Imperfect Foil’, the hotheaded tomboy is often, but not always propped up as a rival to the ‘childhood friend’. But, much like the ‘Imperfect Foil’ usually loses out on the main character. However, unlike the ‘Imperfect Foil’ they often find themselves hitched up with one of the side characters.
Also very often, this character has a conflict of her masculine and feminine sides. This character is often very flawed, prone to aggression, possibly a loner, or of great height, which is often a cosmetic flaw in Japanese culture.
Examples of ‘Hotheaded Tomboy’: Suzuki Arimi (Marmalade Boy), Kino Makoto (sailormoon), Ryuzaki Umi (Magic Knight Rayearth), Tenjou Utena (Revolutionary Girl Utena), Oscar Francoi De Jerjeys (Rose of Versailles).

Guy who is so polite and embarrassed he has to ask the girl if he can do everything even kiss and STILL gets in embarrassing situations. TO much like me, hits to close to home, I hate that.
That's actually the same Reason I can't watch the pilot of Serial Experiment lain it gives me bad flashbacks to high school and people I know who screwed up their lives . Am I the only one who has Vietnam style flashbacks about highschool?

I know. I'm not sure if you have watched kodocha. But it's the same concept.
guy kisses girl in elm.
Girl hates guy
Guy falls in love with a different girl many years after.
Girl moves to their school and becomes friends with the girl the guy fell in love with
Girl that got kissed found out her friend was the guy that kissed her. and slaps him
Eventually stuff happens and the girl practically steals him away!!... even if she hated him most of her life o__o
So then there you are, all crushed and mad... Ready to wring someones neck. lol.
