Chobits vs. DearS!

So, which anime do you like better? For me, DearS seems less pretentious than Chobits, but I still like Chobits better(despite the amount of echiness I enjoy in DearS). Some people say that DearS is Chobits with bigger boobs or a Chobits rip-off, but I disagree. So, what do you all think?:eek:

I wouldn't call DearS a rip off of Chobits. The story is different. Aliens vs. computers. Ren has more of a personality than Chii, that's for sure. And everyone knows, that in every anime where a boy finds a "stray" girl, he takes her home and keeps her in his closet.:laugh:

the storyline for DearS doesnt really appeal to me, when i first saw it i did think it was a little based off chobits...so i wasnt all pleased. and some characters in dearS bug me>_>;; (im not going to use names) and when i met the teacher...omg i screamed like there was no tomorrow >_<
i have to say the art for both is good, i really favor clamp art so i'll probably be a little biased^^;; but the dearS art is really pretty though =]

but i guess both is okay either way^^

I love both animes, with all my heart. I have both Hideki's and Takeya's personalities and looks, and I'm in both of their shoes right now! Now, the only thing to complete my life is to find a stray girl/robot/alien and bring her home ^^...

Ecchiness and comedy is the reason why I watch these two! And both the main male leads remind me of myself right now. And the two female leads are absolutely adorable. I know, guys aren't into cute, but I'm one of the few that is!

Note: There are two girls in my school that fit the description and personality that Chii and Ren do! How great is that? I might muster up the courage to ask one of them out!

Chobits dislikes: Only 26 episodes, and left a huge cliff hanger!(though it was pretty much a happy ending). No season 2?!(you'll probablly agrue with me, but I stand corrected).

DearS dislikes: Half as many episodes as Chobits. Not much character development. Leaves an even bigger cliff hanger than Chobits! Should be more than a season 2, should be more episodes! The anime doesn't even cover half of what the manga showed!

Chobits and DearS likes: The characters, colors, music, and everything else I didn't mention above.

Sorry to all DearS fans: Chobits still > DearS in my opinion. But I still love both!

Yes, I agree, I think she would've annoyed the heck out of most guys! The submissiveness and cuteness may seem fine at first, but after a while, it can get kind of irritating when she acts the way she does sometimes.

well both where aimed at mostly guys, but mostly Dears (the big boob thing was over the top xD) chobits was some what calm in color and animation, and the story was a more appealing, so I'd go for chobits! ^-^ (Dears is ok for me)

I'm sorry but as far as characters, Takeya is much better than Hideki. Hideki is completely stereotypical. Ren has way more of a personality than Chii. Ren at least shows different emotions.:rolleyes:

I don't mean to be vain, but isn't Takeya stereotypical also?? Just as Hideki is, Takeya is the average high school guy that lives on his own, doesn't have a gf, has a porn obsession, and works a dead end job. Both their characters have been done to death! You're right about Ren showing more emotions though, but she's a living creature, Chii is a computer after all. But I think it's a little less creepy to fall in love with something living, rather than a machine.:)

DearS. The story was actually interesting unlike Chobits, which, really, I don't see what the big deal is. It's so predictable. DearS has a better plot, and characters with better personalities in my opinion. I think I stopped watching Chobits for a while because it was so boring, whereas I actually finished DearS in about a 4 days.

I mean their personalities. The thing that saves Takeya for me is that he has an attitude and is capable of being a jerk sometimes. XD That may sound odd to say it's a good thing but it makes him a bit more realistic. And I admit I have a thing for guys with attitudes like his.:rolleyes:

Chii is a computer but so are Sumomo and Kotoko. But they have more personality than Chii, wouldn't you say?

Chobits was a great series! Not much for the anime, but the graphic novels were great for me.

Miss Chan, you are correct, because I enjoyed it!:laugh: DearS was an awesome series, but the only thing that kills me about the series, is that it's only 13 episodes long. I want a DearS season 2! Because I felt that it left such a cliff hanger! More Dears! But it has been a while since they released any new DearS merchandise though.:( Maybe if we get more fans, we can get both series to come out with some more stuff!:)

Ack, this is a really difficult question you know? I have seen all the episodes of both series, read half r more of the Chobits manga, and just started the DearS manga and I really do love them both! (I'm a girl by the way, I don't think that makes much of a difference, but they're both aimed at guys right? Anyways...) And I must say that I enjoy the DearS anime much more than the Chobits anime, I don't know why but it just wasn't as interesting to me. I mean I love it, don't get me wrong, but between the two animes I think DearS was much more entertaining! It was so hilarious! I seriously nearly peed my pants at certain parts! Strike that, for MOST of the show! xD

BUT I ADORE the Chobits manga, it's actually the BEST manga I've EVER read!!! (and I read alot! =P) The manga is WAY better than the show in my opinion, I don't know what it is about it that makes it so wonderful, but it is! The character depth and actual emotion is portrayed much better int he manga, the artwork is great and it's really easy to understand! I don't know if you know what I mean, but sometimes when you read a manga it gets really confusing and you're left with a blank stare going "What the Dickens?!?!!?" But Chobits is wonderfully told and it's just wow. I love it, really I do! And the DearS manga (although I've just started) doesn't have that impact on me. At least not yet, we'll see though! =P

And as for the subs vs. dub things, I'll say that for the most part I watch subs, not because I'm a fub-hater, really I'm not, I just like to listen to the Japanese voices because I love foreign languages! And Japanese is a beautifully fascinating language!! Anyways, so of course I prefer the subs for both shows, especially Chobits, I think the Japanese voices are perfect!! HOWEVER, I must say that the English dub voices are actually quite good. There's a lot of bad dubs out there *cough* Naruto, One Piece *cough* but DearS and Chobits are not in that category. I think they did an excellent job picking a cast for the Chobits dub and a good job on DearS!! So I still like the subbed versions, but I will watch the dubbed version without any hint of a complaint! =D

Actually, I bought the whole DearS manga set over Christmas vacation, and only made it half way to volume 5. It's quite good so far, but just as in Chobits, the manga and anime have their events completely mixed up!

I liked both the subs and dubs almost equally. Of course the subs are better!

Actually I saw the subbed version first, but I watched the majority of it dubbed with my best friend. But I said, it is probably just likely that I got used to it! I'm generally like that, I don't like (or hate) some things at first, then I get used them and don't mind them at all! I ashamed to say it, but I've gotten the terrible Naruto dub. I mean I KNOW that it's horrendous, but now I don't mind watching it on Cartoon Network when it's on! (I'm getting off-topic now, sorry!) But I suppose my point is that once you get past your initial disgust or dislike, the dubs are not so bad! =D

Ah well, we're all entitled to our own opinion I suppose! But, as I've stated, I don't have a problem with Geneon's voice actors (or any other company's). I think it's because I kind of sympathize with them because I know that they're doing their best but are still constantly being compared to their Japanese counterparts and that they'll never be as good.

But I totally understand your point, alot of the acting rather... corny! But I try not to be too hard on the actors or companies that hire the actors because I always feel that they're doing their best and should encourage them to dub more stuff so the people who only watch dubs will get the joy of anime too! =D

Chii Personality was great! I love strange girls :D I love Chobits becouse is serious and more romantic and with better end. DearS was much more funy and addictive but i disliked the end scene and how modern thier clothes looks. Chobits was more like for me :)

Ooo, yeah, good point 0.0 While Ren and Takeya can age together and actually reproduce, Hideki and Chii cannot, because we all know you can't make kids with a computer!! :laugh: And another thing is(which you'll find creepy, if you look into it a little) is that, as Hideki ages and physically becomes an old man, Chii will stay the same age(physically)always, which is creepy :ninja: It's like when he's 50-60 years old, Chii still appears to be 15-16, how's that for a relationship??<----Now I know why people thought Chobits was a little creepy. Sorry to you Chobits fans out there!! Now when will a second series come out for either anime?? 0_o; Or are they completely done with both of them?? :(

Chobits on the other hand, showed the developement of characters that actually make you want to know whats gonna happen next.

Plus on a cute factor Chii is the sweetest thing spawned from clamp writers imagination. Though DearS does have ::cough:: interesting character designs and complexes, and i really did find the cat DearS cute

EDIT:: Romanticism isnt based on the ability to PROCREATE, after completing the programmed designed by the chobits creator, Persocoms can now have emotions. Which concludes romance is possible. Though difficult in age...

That's what bugs me too!! I just....I dunno....I can't see them as a couple....can't see them going on romantic dates, can't see kissing, can't see gazing into each other's eyes....Chii feels more like Hideki's little sister...doesn't she!? Or even his child. o_o There's just....no chemistry.

Now on the other hand, Ren and Takeya have very sexy chemistry. XD

They are most likely done with both series, it pains me to say.:(
