I'm still fairly new at Photoshop CS. I've only been using it for a little over a year so pardon me if my works are a little amateurish.
Below are a few of my sigs. I stink at making avatars but I put up my better ones. Please Comment and Critique.
12-30-2007, 10:04 PM
Wow! The texture! You have a great one there! Keep it up!
12-30-2007, 10:50 PM
Not bad sigs - I like the first set the best. The colors and lighting are very nice, and the feel is very mystical.
The Itachi sig is really blurred out - it's kind of hard to see, but the text looks great. I really like the Restricted sig - the texture is very nice.
Keep posting your awesome sigs! ^^
12-30-2007, 11:00 PM
Thanks very much for commenting. =)
@Mira Kaiba: It really is a bit blurry, huh. x.x; The Itachi render was so..bad, but it was the only cool-looking one I could find of Itachi. Know any places I can find good images of Itachi?
12-31-2007, 12:36 AM
Actually, if you just go to animegalleries.net and search for Itachi in the image search, you get 120 pages of images of him. If you sort through the screencaps, you can find some good fan images of him, and some good images of him in wallpapers. You might have to extract them yourself though.
The image that you used in the sig of him is on page 3 I think, and it's pretty clear, so you can always pick that one up.
I can't wait to see more of your works! XD
12-31-2007, 12:52 AM
Alright, thanks a lot Mira Kaiba. I'll go check it out as soon as my internet connection isn't so slow. As for new siggies, hahaha... That might take a while. I only make signatures when I know I'll make something passable. I hate making half-baked things. It's a waste of time and space on my hard drive. ^^;
Actually, I'll post a wallpaper I made a while ago... in the wallpaper section though.
I was bored a few minutes ago, so I made two siggies. Once again, please comment and critique. ^^
Here's the render for this one. It's such a cool render, so I felt like sharing.
01-01-2008, 10:31 AM
Whoo. The summoner sig is amazing. The placement leaves room for the background (which is what really ties the whole thing together.)
The Belldandy avatar could be better. If you're going to have a close up of her face, it's best to either keep the text to the sides or not have a caption at all. The middle isn't that great of an option.
The Restricted and Spider Lily signatures are the ones that really caught my eye. Despite the program still being new to you, you've managed to effectively use it to your advantage; right on. >=3
As for the Sleeping Angel, I think it would have been alright if you had used a bit more of the render in the signature, if you know what I mean. Don't try to limit it to only a bust or waist of a character.
Other than that, you're well on your way. *Thumbs up and what-not*
01-01-2008, 10:47 AM
@Leorina: Thanks so much for the comments and critiques. I'll keep your words in mind for future signatures. ^^;
You completely pointed out my weakness in gfx. I totally SUCK at making avatars. Got any tips or tricks? =( Such a small canvas is really really hard for me to work with. I feel so limited.
Although..your comment for the Sleeping Angel sig has me very confused. Um, what do you mean? *sweatdrop*

01-01-2008, 11:16 AM
Girl, you got MAD skills as the gangsters say. Very nice work. I especially like that Itachi one. It has a dark feeling to it.
01-01-2008, 07:15 PM
Yeah, I thought the comment for the render on Sleeping Angel might have been poorly worded. Um...Let's see...Here's the definition of bust from Wiki.
A bust is a sculptured, painted, drawn, or engraved representation of the upper part of the human figure, usually depicting a person's chest, shoulders, and head... The rest of the definition just had to do with the actual stonework, but you understand what I mean now?
In most of the signatures you have now, you seem to be using only the bust (or upper half) of the render. Try moving away from only those parts if you can.
As for avatars, I'd take the render and shrink it slightly so that more than the face alone will be in the avatar's borders. Next, I'd take the cropping tool and put it at 100x100 over any place I want the avvy to be. Then, I'd find a background I like and layer it underneath the render.
Once you get the hang of making avatars, they can be a blast.
01-01-2008, 07:33 PM
Ah, I see I see. ^^ Thanks for explaining it. Because I really had no clue what you meant. Well, other than her uh.. 'bust', what would you have used? Just wondering.
@Malaki Rose: Thank you!
01-01-2008, 08:01 PM
Well, I guess it depends on how interesting or striking you want the picture to be...
Now that I'm really looking at it, I have a question: was there a tree at all in the original picture? http://www.animeforum.com/image/thum_122922477aef1b882d3.png (http://www.animeforum.com/vbimghost.php?do=displayimg&imgid=23726) The one in the sig that's outlined in black. (Sorry for snagging the sig, but I thought I should point out which one I meant.)
If there was, you could probably remake the signature so that the tree can be on the left (or right, if you decided to use the mirror tool) with the girl leaning against it. Then, with the extra background that you'd have, you could make a peaceful meadow-like place with the shadow of someone off in the distance. You can still put Sleeping Angel as the caption--
But, you know what: it's your signature and your program. I'll stay away from drastic changes. Opinions and small suggestions from now on, I promise!
01-01-2008, 08:32 PM
There was a tree, yes there was. I'm surprised you noticed. ^_^ Unfortunately, along with the tree, there were two guys; one on each side of her. ^^; So I couldn't really do anything about it. Maybe if I chose a scan where it had only a single sleeping girl alone? lol
..O.o; You know, the scene you described would probably be better as a wallpaper. =)
01-01-2008, 08:34 PM
i like the belldany one the best
just the way it looks is cool
the colors so bright like a dream.
01-02-2008, 04:49 AM
Your signatures are very nice, though you still need to work on your lighting. In some you overused the lighting.
The summoner has great effects in it and the character matches well with the background.
Keep up the good work!
They are nice.
The only thing I see you need to work on is the lightening.
Other than that, they are all great.
Wish to see some more.
01-02-2008, 08:13 AM
I really love them <3 i love how angelic they look =] xxxx
01-02-2008, 08:10 PM
..O.o; You know, the scene you described would probably be better as a wallpaper. =)
Hoorah. I was helpful after all. -Throws confetti everywhere.-
I hope you update soon. Keep working at the avatars, too!
01-03-2008, 04:02 AM
Heh, any comment can be helpful; negative and positive ones. =) Just depends on how you look at it, ne? Although with my meager skills, I don't think I can make such a pretty wallpaper as the one you described. ><;
Anyway, here's a new one I just put together right now. I tried working on lighting. O.o; It's probably obvious without my saying so though.
As always, comment and critique! And I don't care if anyone flames me either. :P So long as you provide a valid reason for doing so. ^_^ Although I hear it goes against forum rules.

01-03-2008, 05:26 AM
I love your graphic design on your signatures, yes. There is one problem with your Itachi Uchiha sig, it's a bit blurred out, possibly by Gaussian blur side effect. However did you try using bright/contrast levels to give the render a bit more illumination, than the previous one? I am sure it'll stop the blur. But, I may be wrong. I do like your GIF animation on the third slot, I still know a little about GIF animation, can you help me out on that? Thanks.
01-03-2008, 05:42 AM
I have no problem helping you out with GIF animation. I'm still a noob at it though, but what help I can offer, I will. So feel free to ask whenever you need to! You can PM me with questions at any time.
Yeah, the Itachi sig isn't exactly the best, but it was a pretty good experiment. It's just the render I found was so horrible in quality. There were lines all over it. ><; I tried my best to smooth it out, but then it ended up blurry. O.o Oh well! Just can't win.
01-03-2008, 06:55 AM
Well these are pretty nice.
You've got an interesting style here.
All these are actually good. On some of them the lighting are perfect.
I'll just comment on your latest one though.
Yeah, it's obvious, lighting is really hard to work with. >__<
Sometimes, curves and levels just won't do.
What you can do is trying to mess with gradient maps.
Make a gradient map of black and white, and use a blending tool on that layer to make it a bit darker.
Maybe that'll help later in the future.
Can't wait to see more of your style.
01-03-2008, 07:34 AM
=) Thanks DarkBalance. Now I know what curves and levels are after bugging you through PM. XD
Anyway, this is a sig I just made for a request from the request thread. O.o; Not sure if the requestee likes it, but I like it.
01-03-2008, 07:37 AM
Very well done! I like this one a lot.
Maybe add the render again and set the opacity lower to fill the negative space.
However I still like it a lot.
You did a great job.
01-03-2008, 07:40 AM
lol. Wow, you commented again. It's not apparent, but the bg is actually the render smudged after duplicating it several layers and then throwing a gradient on top. Although..what do you mean? Like making a 'ghost' image of it? Not really my style though. Hmm... ^^; Thanks for commenting again. What happened to going to school though? O.o;
01-03-2008, 07:41 AM
Well gee, I feel dumb. XD
Although I was talking about the render in whole, but it's good nonetheless.
You did great though.
Especially the lighting on the bottom.
You're learning about lighting. =D
01-03-2008, 07:50 AM
Sloooowly but steadily, I'm learning about lighting. O.o; Still haven't used that curve..uh..line thing. I'm gonna try it out once I start a new sig hopefully sometime soon. I get hits of inspiration at random.
:P No reason for you to feel dumb though. The bg is unrecognizable as having been her once upon a time. Lol
01-03-2008, 09:18 AM
I really like them. They kind of glow. Although you don't want to obscure the renders too much...
01-05-2008, 08:07 AM
Well, I made this just now as a gift for DarkBalance. Although I'm pretty new here, DarkBalance was probably the one who tried to be the most helpful and honest about my graphics. I appreciate that more than anything. ^^
Oh, and heartfelt words aside, comment and critique!
01-05-2008, 08:24 AM
It's beautifuuuuuuuul *-* (The one for DarkBalance) and I really like the text! I suck at deciding what word and sentence I should have for my sigs and well, you placed it in a spot where it isn't in the way too =D
It could've been a little less bright on the right side - of course, don't 'delete' the brightness, just lower the opacity. I also don't like the lensflare in the middle much, because I don't like it when those 'lines' from the lensflare are too visible.
Other than that, I really like it!
01-05-2008, 09:28 AM
@Megami91: Thanks for c&cing! I really appreciate it. Hmm, text is probably one thing I'm good at. I don't often mess up on text. And er, you'll probably have to bear with me for quite a few sigs more with bright and not-so-bright sigs since I'm experimenting with lighting. ^^;
Anyway, I must be very bored because I just made another sig for a request on the Sig/Ava request thread.
My own thoughts: I think the right side is a little empty, but when I tried to make it less empty, it turned out really funky.. and overcrowded..so I left it empty and made the light source come from there instead. Am I the only one that thinks it's empty despite the light source? ~~; I mean, you can plainly see the texture and stuff, but uh..yeah..
As always, comments and critiques are more than welcome.
01-05-2008, 09:57 AM
Okay here I am again *sees everyone run away and hide õ_Ô*.... Time to comment >: D!
But I'll just comment on your last two, because I'm lazy like that
The one you did for DarkBalance is very nice, but here are some point it could have been improved on in my opinion. In my opinion the signature is to light overall, how did you get this lighting? Because I see one bright spot in the middle and that's bothering me quite alot. What does the stock look like? Is the palm of her hand open and is she looking into it? Do see where I'm going to?....Okay second thing... Only on the left corner to the middle I can see effects you applied, the rest seems to be the original image... And third, I'm missing depth in the signature. Creating a light source doesn't immediately give your signature a sense of depth. The feeling of the signature is there, but I'm just missing a few things.
In this one the lighting is a whole lot better, actually it's pretty well done. The background was made well, it fits the feeling of the signature, but... yeah there is a "but"... The signature has no sense of depth to it, if you keep the light source you added in mind, you would also have to add parts where it's darker. Also adding parts where it a bit blurry would help create a sense of depth in your signature.
Now all of this might sound a bit harsh, like I have no good words for your signatures, but actually they are nice. I see you have talent for making signatures, you just need to work on things like lighting, depth and getting the feel of the signature just right. But you know what they say "practice makes perfect" ;D.
Keep up the good work!
01-05-2008, 10:06 AM
*blinks and laughs* Oh geez, your post made me laugh. No, not making fun of you. :P Seriously. *giggles* I just don't see WHY you would think you're being harsh. Trust me, it takes a LOT more than what you're saying to even make me frown. :P Don't hold back on my account and dish out what you can. Because seriously, I don't see a point posting here if no one's gonna say anything negative!
Well, in the Zabuza sig, it's pretty hard to notice since it's basically all gray and black and stuff, but I tried to make the left side significantly darker. I guess I didn't pull it off well enough. Oh well. :P I'll work on the stuff you mentioned in future sigs. But.. you know, you mentioned blurring and stuff, but where do you think would be a good place to blur in that sig? x_x;
In the sig for DarkBalance, unfortunately, she had no hand. x_x; I don't mean it was cut off and bleeding, but I meant her hand was under water and you couldn't see her hand even if you wanted to. Lol! And you're right about the depth part. ^^;;; I couldn't figure out how to do it in that one..
Now that is some great signatures
Love the colors and the lighting is perfect.
Keep it up!
01-05-2008, 01:22 PM
Amateur-ish?? I are you kidding? These sigs are like...like magic! >D
The City of Lights one and the summoner one are my favorites.
The lightings on your sigs are very well placed, and the texture is magnificent! <3
A few of your renders aren't so great, but you make them all shine. Your'e amazing.
The only thing is the sig for Blackye, Zabusa (I believe that was his name?) is a little blurry/pixelated. Sort of...
Keep up the good work! =3
01-05-2008, 03:13 PM
Wow. These sigs are really nice. Great use of lighting. I really like them. Great work. ^_^
01-05-2008, 05:54 PM
I know you're working with lighting and everything...
but the last signature that you made has almost an unnatural lighting to it.
Maybe you can make more subtle. And as Megami said, don't DELETE it, just lower the opacity or something.
However these are still really good.
Those backgrounds were always interesting to view.
And thank you for the signature. It was very nice of you to do. ^__^
01-05-2008, 08:15 PM
Very nice sigs, especially the one for DarkBalance, and the Dragon Princess sigs! The lighting is very nice, though like Megami said, maybe lower the opacity on the DarkBalance sig. Overall, beautiful sigs. ^^
The Zabuza sig does seem a bit grainy/pixelated. That just might be how the image was, though, which I can understand. I really like the background on that one. The text is very good. Keep up the awesome sig making! ^^
01-07-2008, 04:06 PM
Advice all considered and put to use. O.o;
><; Did I do better this time around? I was playing around with other things this time other than lighting though so I might've gotten distracted and screwed more things up. Oops? Aheh... I had a lot more trouble with this one than I thought I would because I decided to use a non-anime render. I'm not used to it. But I think I did okay overall. I did spend over an hour making this. Well, please C&C! ^^
01-08-2008, 02:28 PM
This sig is very good too. ^^ I like the lighting - it has a mystical feeling, which is nice. I like the background except for the blue part near the bottom - it kind of throws off the color scheme a bit from the browns and whites. The rest of the background is really good, though you may want to try sharpening it to give it a crisper look. Overall great sig, and I love the image you chose. ^^
01-08-2008, 02:48 PM
@Mira Kaiba: ^^; I did sharpen it. Twice. I tried sharpening it a third time, but it came out really bad. Thanks for the C&C though!
01-12-2008, 08:10 AM
Very nice grungy look to it. Kinda bright near the face tho.
the latest one is uber sexy! the effects near his arm is <3 might wanna lower the fill. and i dont really like the size (but thats imo, dont listen to me) tho Very-very nice choice of picture ^ ^ Love the effects and lights~
01-14-2008, 02:38 PM
Thanks, unlimited. =) Yeah, for some reason I don't really like making sigs too small nor too large... I can't work with very small spaces since I like to do a lot. Oh wells...
Here's version 2 of my current:
And this is my latest work in progress. It's NOT DONE yet. So feel VERY free to give me suggestions! It doesn't look complete to me so until it does, it'll remain a WIP.
01-14-2008, 03:28 PM
Cool - I like the latest one you're working on. I really like the rainbow color line on the left side and the light streaks on the right. The extract is kind of hard to see because of the light, you may want to decrease the white light or darken the extract. The text looks good, and I love the background. I can't wait to see it when it's finished! ^^
01-14-2008, 03:51 PM
I LOVE your signatures Clowangel! They are absolutely amazing, some of the best works I have ever seen O_O. You manage to amaze me with every siggy.
The latest one that is not finished yet is already gorgeous. The lighting is very well done and i like the text.
The right side of teh background could use a tad more work though. :/
It looks a little too vibrant, and doesn't match well with the left side of the background.
You're super duper good at this!
Keep it up!
01-15-2008, 01:14 AM
Thanks guys, for the comments. I realize the right side is screwy. -_- But I can't for the life of me figure out what to do! *sigh* I might just scrap it...or start anew. *sniff*
01-28-2008, 11:55 AM
It's been a while and I only created three sigs. *cough* Yeah, talk about laziness. Actually, I've been working on a vector so sigs have been kind of shoved to the side. Well, here's what I have.
This was for a request on a different site:
01-28-2008, 01:58 PM
I would really like to know how you put together some of these, if you have a tutorial around somewhere. I would recommend working on your colors and text to add some more pizazz to your signatures.
01-28-2008, 03:28 PM
Sorry, I haven't made any tutorials. x_x;
01-28-2008, 03:44 PM
Hi Clow. I like it how you use light and colour in your signatures, and it also makes them stand out.
01-28-2008, 07:28 PM
Nice new sigs. I especially like the Hitsugaya sig, though the first one seems oversharpened. The one below it is a little undersharpened. Maybe somewhere in between would be better. But your colors and the background effects are awesome as always. Keep up the great sigs!
02-03-2008, 10:32 AM
^_^ Thanks, Mira. Heh, I'll fix the Hitsugaya one eventually. ^^ Suddenly, my Fountain of Inspiration has run dry. @@; Can't think of a thing to make. ~~;
@Red: Thank you for commenting too. ^_^
02-12-2008, 01:07 PM
The fountain has welled up again...
Here's first on the list, a collaboration between a friend and I.
Step 1: He made it.
Step 2: I finished it.
Now, this ...I think was an experiment with sprite sigs. I'm not really sure anymore. ;-; I was half-asleep when I made it. When I woke up this morning, I was like, "whoa! it's so tiny and messy!" but I love the background. Not that I can really remember how I made it or what it's supposed to be anymore.
02-14-2008, 10:45 PM
Nice job.I like the Bg and the render.The text is awsome and flows quite well.
Kawaii siggies here^^
Ps.O___O that last one is cool but i'm wondering what it is as well.(lol)
02-15-2008, 05:00 AM
@Yurka: Is that her name? xD I just thought the picture was pretty so I used it.
@Hieko: Thank you. Hahaha.. Yeah, that last one's a mystery.
@seoprabhu: Thank you. =)
Okay, I made two sets for requests.
I'm really happy with the background in this one. It's lovely.. but why oh why did the requestee have to give me such a crappy picture to work with? *sigh*
Here's the image she gave me:
And this one is more like a scrapbook sig than anything else.. ~~; But nonetheless, it came out pretty well despite the simplicity. The funnest thing to make were those transparent silk ribbons. ^^
02-15-2008, 10:33 AM
Like the newly updated ones but your right,thats not that much of good a pic to use for a sig or avi =_=
I like the Bg none the less.
The last onne is quite awsome actually.I love the siggy^^
The avi is awsome as well.
Just wondering which program do you use?
02-15-2008, 05:06 PM
^ Heh, thanks. ^^ I use Adobe Photoshop CS.
