DBZ Movie Confirmed

After weeks of speculation, It was announced this week that Twentieth Century Fox will begin filming the hugely anticipated live-action Dragonball Z movie.

Actress Jamie Chung who’s known for her appearances’ in MTV’s Real World is being cast to play the part of Chi Chi. Other actors signed up include Justin Chatwin as Goku and James Marsters as Piccolo.

James Wong will be directing the adaptation which will be ready for release August next year.

Goku is an adult humanoid alien who is sent to earth to blend in and destroy mankind, but instead opts to protect earth from Piccolo, who desires the power of the eternal dragon to restore his youth and to dominate the universe.

This has happened before and failed to proceed, so I'm a bit skeptical.

I'm also worried that they're going to change the original story too much, as is all too common in movie adaptations of novels and comics.

Thery failed to proceed last time cause there wasn't a director or cast, now they have one and if they're gonna release it by August then they'll be shooting it now.

The most I'm hoping for is a bad movie thats at least fun to watch because it's bad.

What I meant was that they may tone-down the wild hair just to be practical, 'cause I certainly wouldn't want them wearing plastic hair (like in the old game commercial). It'll also be interesting to see how (if they bother, which they should) they give Tien his extra eye.
However...
I've found a picture proving that it may be possible to find near-perfect look-alikes for the main characters, without ever having to send them to makeup.

dbz movie with real movie...guessing its a comedy then..i saw the cast..no comment can be made....imgane the simpsons movie but with real people..that wont work...dbz is an anime and the movie should be the same

I think the only reason it looks bad is because of all the ground they have to cover; some live action films turn out good...but i guess that's because they were done in Japan first...

:DIt actually could be a comedy if it covered only Dragonball or if it was a parody, though:D. I mean, just imagine Hercule walking up to Bulma and asking, "How much?"

Actually Ive imagined how a live action DBZ movie would be like. After watching the movie The One with Jet Li, some of the effects I was seeing made me think of some of the gimmicks I saw in DBZ (i.e. super speed). Also the effected used for Cyclops' eye beam from the X-mem movies could have the same feel as say a Kamehameha wave or any energy blast for that matter.

Make up though is going to be an issue. I think they'll dumb down the hairs a bit, sorta like Cloud's hair in Advent Children wasnt as high and spikey as his game counterpart(s). Since there is no doubt that at least Piccolo will be in it, hopefully they'll do a good job on him and not over do his clothes and make him look more realistic. Maybe give him Klingon like chompers. lol

The sets should probably still have the Capsule corp look and feel, but again dull it down a little so it doesnt look too "toony"; at least for any scenes that take place on earth, assuming there will be any that wont be.

what i think would be a cool take on the DBZ movie is if they make it like Beowulf was done... Mo-Cap all the action, and then CGI everything.

I seriously doubt this movie will be any good. And as said before, at least we could have fun watching it because it's bad.

They couldn't pick a better Goku than Justin Chatwin? Seriously. Nothing against him but, why?
James Marsters as Piccolo doesn't seem too bad. It might be weird seing him green though.

I seriously can't wait to see this movie! The only flaw is, that they didn't cast me in the movie! What I'd like to know if they're telling the truth, that they'll be showing it in theaters in August 2008.

Did anybody see the D.O.A movie? Well I didn't watch it, because anime style characters are NOT meant to be converted to real people. I hate movie remakes, and I think this one will be bad even as far as movie remakes go! It'll probably end up being a cheesy b-grade budget-fest.

hmmmmm ive noticed alot of comic,cartoon and video game movies are getting abit better... like HITMAN everysingle bit of dialouge in that movie sucked 100% but the action was great...
and TRANSFORMERS IDk... The action was awsome... main lovey dovey story line kinduh sucked though...
ummm.. ive never heard anyone complain about a batman movie and that started as a comic...
and IRON man will be coming out soon :) it loooks GODLIKE!
so idk.. till everyone actually sees the DBZ movie/script/or even a damned commercial... you cant really say if its gonna suck or not...but dont get your hopes up people

Nice...I don't exactly like DBZ much I liked just regular DragonBall...
But once again another movie, they've already made about 6 maybe 8 games already, you'd think they'd stop by now (of course DBZ is still an interesting series).
