Well I'm back with another RP idea. This is my 3rd attempt at an RPG and my previous attempt failed badly lol. The Time Gate (my previous attempt) seemed to be overly strict on RP standards and i ended up not getting enough people who met my criterias. This time I'll try something VERY different then anything I've seen on here and hope it works better then my previous try. If you don't like reading however, this is maybe not the place for you considering the extent of the information that will be needed for you to be part of this RP.

This next point is very important: This is a VERY science-heavy RP. It is set in a time not too far from our own therefore laws of science are respected and considering the identity of the characters and of the situation chances are you will end up googling a lot to back up what you say. I plan on doing it and have already done it, it doesn't take THAT much time but it will require a slightly bigger effort then normal. I love this idea and I really hope I can get enough people to participate, it would be one hell of a ride.

I've had some issues since my start here about the rules and stuff. To be honest I don't like them lol. But I don't have a choice to enforce them if I want my RP to not be closed like my first one (endless war). So it will be basic AF ruling. I don't have any real additional official rules but you'll know when I'm displeased, trust me. :P

Last thing I want to mention concerns the signing-up. Like you will notice there is specific positions int he RP. It will not be a first come, first served policy. If soemone has already posted for your position you can also post for that position. The best keeps the position. The person who got his position taken may choose another position or re-enter with an improved sign-up in an attempt to regain his position. However, trust me I can tell RP levels very quickly and I don't expect anybody to be able to re-enter and dislodge someone. You should always be RPing your best anyway especially in sign-up.

Also you will notice there is a position that I will choose depending on how good I feel your character and RP sample are. This personw ill be chosen when the RP starts so post nice sign-up posts, take your time. It will not only decide if you get the position you want but if you are going to become the second-in-command ( a very fun thing to be ).

The Great Leap :

History of RP :

The year is 2018. It is a warm mid-december at the Kennedy Space Center Launch pad 39A. Everyone is silent, everything is triple checked and finally the years of preperation is finally going to see the light of day. It is the riskiest of man’s attempts since it first voyaged in the depths of space. It has been 57 years since man took their first babysteps into space and 49 years since they first landed on the moon. After Apollo 11’s worldwide success the space race took a new turn. Who would be the first to land on another planet ? The target ? Mars.

It all started with the dream of a young boy. As he grew older this dream disapeared or so he thought. It was nurtured and then as he grew older he believed it could happen, he believed he could make it happen. Commander Vincent Silver of the SCNE (Silver canadien NASA Extension) was already one of the richest man on earth having gained wealth due to his scientific outbreak, his very successful canadien business, the Silver corperation and other various means. But wealth wasn’t Vincent’s goal, wealth was simply a means to his goal.

Sponsors weren’t very hard to find after the right publicity. Major sponsors included a private firm, the canadien, American and Russian government and Silver’s own pocket. But when everything was set and done Vincent was broke but the mission was to be launch that very year. So much depended on this mission. Many critics argued it was too early for an endeavour of this magnitude. That a failure could result in the post-poning of any future missions by at least 50 years. A bit like Apollo 11 the GLP (Great Leap Project) had tremendous pressure to succeed.

The priority became to find a competent crew. Commander Vincent Silver would be taking the command but the other members of the team weren’t so easy to find.

The ship itself named the SP-05 (Silver Perfection version 5) is a marvel of modern science. The many obstacles of a voyage to Mars became apparent the second Vincent started working seriously on the project. Him and a group of scientists from all over the world finally came up with the current design that according to all of them would give them the best chance of success.

Considering the distance seperating Earth from Mars it would take around 3 months to complete the journey. This huge amount of time in space brings a whole lot of complications that had to be addressed :

1. First and foremost, fuel. A journey of around 3 months would require so much traditional fuel that they would need to use a ship 100 times bigger then the SP-05 to simply hold the fuel. That was out of the question so the team turned towards a not so traditional fuel. The answer : Antimatter. According to most it was too early to be using anti-matter for propelling things into space. The highly volatile opposite of matter prooves to not only be hard to obtain but hard to control. But after years of research, years of production and trillions of dollars spent 9 mg of antimatter was ready to be used to send the explorers into space. 4 mg of antimatter would be needed to make the voyage from earth to mars and 4 mg to get back. A 1mg safety zone was added, just in case.

2. Second, came radiation. In space away from the Earth’s protective magnetic field the amount of radiation the crew would be subject to during a voyage of 3 months would be tremendous. No man could resist to that much radiation and live. So how can we protect the voyagers? Lead plating ? Of course not. The radiation which is caused by the constant nuclear reaction that fuels our sun reacts with lead and causes even more devastating consequences like rains of spark inside the shuttle. The solution, a really stupid material called Polyethylene. Simply put that’s plastic. However, it was prooved to be 15% more resistant to radiation then lead. However, it is still hardly sufficient to adequately protect the astronauts. The second part of the solution came from the earth itself. How are we protected from radiation on a daily basis? A magnetic field. A group of German scientists came up with the MFG (magnetic field generator) which was installed on the SP-05. The generators (3 of them) serve to artificially recreate the magnetic field that surrounds the earth. The resulting protection if everything goes as planned will protect the astronauts during their whole voyage.

3. Thirdly, nourishment. There is no refueling therefore no restocking of provisions. The spacecraft has to be completely autosufficient with everything. Air, food, water. Everything has to be recycled and reused. This complexe cycle was created with a combined effort of Canada and the United States biological departments. A 4 room and 4 step process was created known as the cycle. Rooms C-1 to C-4 take care of this vital process. Room C1 also known as the distribution room is where the output comes from. The release of usable oxygen, the growth of plants, the gathering of water etc. All plants found in the ship have been genetically modified to sustain the harshest of treatment. Room C2 or the collection room is where all the wastes go. They are collected in various parts of the ship and sent here. Unprocessed CO2, urine, fecal matter. Everything is sent here. Then everything is sent to room C3 or the break-down room. This is where with the use of complexe chemicals and bacterias everything is broken down into usable parts. Everything is then sent to room C4, the building room. In here everything is created using the broken down parts. Oxygen, water and food is created, plants are planted and fertilizer is used. Everything is accelerated due to genetic modification and everything works in a cycle like in nature.

4. Fourth problem, the lack of gravity. It might seem stupid but floating in mid-air for 3 months will destroy the astronauts as effectively as years of comma. Muscle petrification and very severe osteoporosis (degradation of the bones) are very common signs of man that have gone into space. Even two hours of exercise per day isn’t enough to slow down the decay and therefore an artificial gravity had to be created to make sure the astronauts can move upon arrival. Luckily we know how to make gravity. Gravity is created by the spinning of a sphere. A huge sphere placed in the middle of the ship is constantly spinned at an incredibly high velocity to immitate the earth’s natural gravity.

5. The last big problem besides the general boredom and psychological issues of the astronauts is medical issues. In space medicine is very different. Materials are absorbed less effectively then on earth. Also due to the conditions in space antibodies and various medicine slowly degrades to become rather useless. Also in low gravity bacterias have been known to be more potent then on earth. Of course with the artificial gravity a lot of these problems are slowed but not completely stopped. Even with the powerful centrifuge available on the SP-05 the effects of gravity isn’t perfect and during a 3 month voyage complications would arise. The solution is nanobots. Very complexe nanobots that act like the medicine. Due to them being machines they can be programmed to hit various kinds of diseases or problems and won’t be affected by the decreased absorbtion rate that traditional medicine faces. Also the very resistant tiny robots would resist the harsh conditions of space a lot more effectively.

During most of the voyage communications with earth would be extremely delayed. Going up to 20 minutes between responses. This slow response makes it incredibly hard for the ship to communicate and get help from the Earth and therefore must learn to deal with most situations on their own. The assembling of a practically perfect team became one of the hardest factors and as a result Commander Vincent Silver and a few select officials went around the world to find the bravest, smartest of their field.

Besides the MFGs, the cycle areas, the control room, the reactors and the huge centrifuge many other rooms are found across the ship. The experimental lab, health center, rest chambers, bathroom, community area, storage areas, gym, secondary power generator (nuclear generator) and exit hatches are examples of other such rooms. The SP-05 is equipped with the Canada Arm 3.2. A robotic arm securred on top of the ship for manipulation of outside objects without actually having to exit. The nuclear reactor found inside takes care of the operation of most of the systems found inside the ship like the centrifuge and the magnetic field. The antimatter reactor is served practically solely for the propelling of the ship. "That's one small step fora man, one giant leap for mankind."

Here’s a quick overview of the available positions on the ship : (assume all hes to be he/she)

Commander : Will be my character, general leader on the ship.

Pilot : The pilot is responsible for everything concerning the launch, arrival and general good functioning of the steering system. Has general knowledge of the whole ship, of mechanics and communications.

Co-Pilot : Helps the pilot in his tasks but is more specialized in communications and mechanics.

Engineer : He’s the official mechanic. He builds and repairs around the ship. Metal is his fun.

Doctor : The doctor is not only in charge of the health of the crew. He is also a biologist and a chemist. The doctor is in charge for the good funcitoning of The Cycle and anything that has to do with biology. The doctor has to be capable of every type of medicine from operating X-Ray machines to surgery.

Programmer : He’s the techie. He’ll take care of everything that is computers. He’s also going to be very knowledgable in electronics and the general functioning of the programming/electrical aspect of all the systems in the ship.

The Scientist : He’s your know-it-all. He’s a physician, both a nuclear and astro-physician. He has knowledge on as much stuff as relevant for the space travel. In charge of the lab generally and of coming up with solutions if certain things don’t go as planned.

The Rich Sponsor : He’s the only non-astronaut there. He bought his place. He’s to be a rich entrepreneur (how he got rich is up to you) that wanted to go on mars badly for X and Y reason. Unless you play him well, chances are he won’t be liked by many of the astronauts who see you as a waste of resources. The mission needed the money and you came as a result.

The Second in Command : This is a title I will give the person I feel has the best sign-up page. The second in commande like the name suggests will have the powers that his position allows him. He will be right under the commander and will take the place of the commander in case of death. It is not an individual position like the commander, it is combined with another position and will be announced in my first post when I start the RP.

*Last thing about these characters is that except for the rich man they are all astronauts. They all have a basic knowledge of all the areas on the ship however the specialists are obviously more knowledgable.

Full name : Vincent Silver
Age : 30 years old
Nationality : Canadien (Quebec)
Gender : Male

Position: Commander

Studies/Qualifications: Has a DEC (diplôme d’étude collegiale) in programming. Then did an additional year in CEGEP and studied pure and applied and got his 2 chemistries and physics. Joined the University of McGill with a boursary in Scientific Programming (lasted 4 years). Then joined the NASA for 2 years before starting the GLP during his 3rd year. Has a very high knowledge of prgramming and pure and applied sciences. Took a few courses in biology and health to see if he wanted to join the health programming course but decided not to follow his mother’s footsteps and not go in health. Has a very good general knowledge of most areas and was a candidate of choice for the post of Commander considering his qulifications and how much he has riding on this project.

History : Vincent was a young boy that had always been facinated by science. In his early years he had studied astronomy a great deal and loved astrophysics. As he grew up and steered towards computer technology in CEGEP he still kept a good amount of love for the sciences especially nuclear physics. Learning a lot on his own Vincent then finally joined a pure and applied course during his 4th year of CEGEP. Using his incredibly high marks as a trampoline he managed to get a boursary and join McGill university where everything started to go really uphill for him.

After his years in university Vincent opened the Silver corperation. A scientific organization that researched defencive technologies. After a few big break-throughs and the commercialization of a few of their product Vincent became a very wealthy man. Combined with some of his discoveries at NASA and his nice salary as a science programmer for NASA gave the man goof funding for his research and his ultimate project.

With this basic start and with persuasion Vincent managed to get several organizations and governments involved and so started the GLP. Canada was the first to join the project, followed closely by the United States and Russia. Other coutnries such as Germany helped by coming up with solutions to certain problems. The germans came up with the MFG. After many years of plannign the day of the trip was finally imminant. Vincent has a lot riding on this voyage. His notoriety, his entire fortune and basically his life depends in the success of this mission. But Vincent doesn’t care, it’s a dream come true for him.

Personality : Vincent is a serious man when the time needs it and a goofey man when the time permits it. He likes to have fun and fool around as often as possible, he says it’s good for everyone’s mood but he knows when he has to be strict and to the point. A generally very serious worker, you better not slack off when things need to be done. Vincent has a very good sense of humor and likes a good laugh as much as the next person and has been known to be quite witty on his feet.

Vincent is atheist even though he always wears a cross around his neck and made the cross the symbol for his company. The silver cross doesn’t represent a religious symbol to him but the love his father had for him. Vincent respects his father greatly and knows that he wishes Vincent the best of luck. Often quick to anger when things don’t go according to plan and to have very little patience it’s a wonder what Vincent is doing in programming. However, his petodical and logical nature made him a very good programmer especially combined with his background in sciences.

Usually falls back on concrete evidence and science to explain most of what he does Vincent is a fan of arguments. He calls arguments and debates to be the battle of the mind and likes to have such « battles » with people of contradicting view points. People usually get mad at Vincent’s stubborness and determination to proove he’s always right and it usually pushes people away from arguing with Vincent again which isn’t a bad thing for a commander.

Vincent is a born leader and has been prooving it ever since he started his company. He was also head of his department at NASA even though he was quite young at the time by NASA’s standards.

Appearance : Relatively short messed-up hair and brown eyes. Around 5 foot 7 and 190 pounds. Relatively built (he’s an astronaut). Every member of the mission wears a special uniform made to represent the combined effort of everyone that participated on the project. It looks a lot like the one on the picture : http://93.img.v4.skyrock.com/936/meer-campbell/pics/350694888_small.jpg (http://93.img.v4.skyrock.com/936/meer-campbell/pics/350694888_small.jpg). Vincent looks slightly older now then on that picture (it was taken when Vincent was 19) but he hasn’t changed much.

Personal Equipment: Has a silver cross around his neck. The cross was a present from his father when he was in grade 3. The silver cross became the symbol for his company and everything he stands for. He also brought his personal labtop. His labtop is customized for how he likes it. He brought his drawing stuff. Vincent loves to draw, it relaxes him and nothing's better to pass 3 months of your time in space. His drawing equipment includes 2 scrapbooks, a few mechanical pencils with a lot of lead. Some erasers and a few inking pens. Last thing he brought and hid from everyone is a lone bottle of vodka, just in case.

I drew a really quick drawing of the SP-05. It's a pretty bad drawing but it gives general positions and looks:

Now that you know what will be involved I will expect some basics in the actual RPing. I usually instore official minimums to ensure the RPing is at a specific level but I won't this time, it tends to discourage people. However, I will comment based off your RP sample. Like I said this RP will demand slightly more then some of your previous RPs but it should be THAT much more fun. I'm expecting some nice conflicts and unpredicted events. The last thing I won't allow is multiple characters. Everyone posts only one character. I've noticed multiple characters cuts the RP by that much plus it just won't be necessary. If I notice all we need is 1 person to start the RP I will start it and have him as an NPC anyone can use until someone decides to join as him.

Concerning inventing positions. NO ONE will be able to post a character with a position not mentioned in the ones I came up with. However, you may PM me with your idea of a position and I might allow it. I'm usually very leniant when it comes to adding and letting imagination fly so it shouldn't be a problem if it makes sense. However, don't forget that certain key parts have to be filled up before the RP can start. But don't forget that this is not a sci-fi or fantastic RP. There will be no aliens, robots or magic in this RP. Just make sure you know that. There is some pushed science like nanobots and anti-matter but no walking, talking robots or plasma guns.

Gender :Female

Position : programmer

Studies/Qualifications: She has a diplomacies and in programing computers and other techs. She had invested in a program that was called the "Cornations programing tech" It helped people learn the basics of technical formatting and then there was the "Cornations programing science"It helped those who were in training understand the basics in order to finally enter the world of science. She had invested in it and was named the vice president of the whole company. When the day came that the president of the whole company had died of a Heart attack, Bella became the president of the company.Everything was now renamed the BCPS(Bella's Cornations programing science) and the BCPT(Bella's Cornations programing Tech). Thanks to Bella's knowledge in the programing she was given the chance to sponser a space program. She gladly excepted it since she new things about it and she always wanted to go to space just to see what it was like.

History : Bella was happy young girl qho always had ideas. She always wanted to be famous and be recognized by other people as something more than the average working human being.By the time she had entered highschool she had over 5o different ideas that could work,it was just that knowone wanted to invest in such ideas that they thought would probably fail.

When Bella was about to finish her final year of college, she met a person. They were the same as her.Had many ideas, wanted to be famous, and din't want to ebe the same as everyone else. They way the Cornation program started was the fact that they both were diplomates in Programming and technology. Some of the ideas Bella gave twoards it didn't work.they were both going to give up on the idea when her friend found a solution to the problem.

The Business was up and running by the time they had invented the first version of the program. When her friend had had a heart attack and had died,Bella was told that her friend wanted her to continue on the program business.Bella continued it.When she had heard about the sponsering of a trip in space.she took it fast.It was one dream of hers to go to space once in her life. She smiled as she took it.Her dream was coming true.

Personality : Bella's a humurous person. She loves to play jokes and hear other people laugh.Even if they don't she'll laugh.

Bella can also be a very serious person. She dislikes people who aren't working to there fullest and people who want to acomplish things but aren't helping in anyway to get the job done. She's bossy and always is trying to tell someone what to do.
If she knows something and someone is doing something wrong she likes to help. She can be very caring and understanding of other people .

Appearance : http://i243.photobucket.com/albums/ff301/Rukia-Hieko/fav116a.jpg For some reason she likes to wear Kimono's.Shes 5`5 and weighs 113 pounds. She likes to wear heels as well whenever she goes somewhere.

Personal Equipment : Bella never goes any where without her special pendants. She believes that they are very lucky and she never will go anywhere without the one that her friend gave to her.She has 3 of them.Ones red with stars circling around it.Another thats green that shows the moon in it if you look closely and a blue one that shows the ocean within it.She also likes to sing and listen to music,so she brought her ipod and a microphone just for when shes in the mood to sing.

Not approved. First off re-read your reply and fix most of the grammar/spelling mistakes. I'm not a grammar NAZI but you have a mistake practically every line. Second, you have no RP sample. I said I wasn't putting one with mine because I know my own RP level but if you check the character sheet it requires an RP sample which will show your level of RPing. Third, it doesn't matter as much but I would seriously suggest being the programmer instead of the rich sponsor.

The rich sponsor is really there for the person that has little to no skill (in the mission and is usually more open to imagination then other characters) but if you really want to be the rich sponsor I'll let it pass as long as no one else wants to be the rich sponsor and have a better post. The last thing is a personal opinion. I'm in programming myself (real life) and trust me when I say somebody that can't stop moving would not be able to be a programmer. You spend long stretches of hours not moving and reviewing programs lol.
