whew! its been awhile since Ive finished an anime that made me cry like a baby, this time being

Chrono Crusade!!!!

has anyone seen this anime? I just finished it recently, and I thoroughly enjoyed it, especially the ending... it's very tragic and it had me crying pretty good... @.@

The anime revolves around our Heroine(a sort-of Battle Nun, fighting in the name of the Lord), Rosette and her partner Chrno, as they set out to rescue Rosette's brother Joseph from the evil Aion, Chrno's former partner. Aion intends to use Jospeh for his own ambitions. Will Rosette be able to stop Aion and rescue Joshua? and will Chrno be able to face his former partner?

With the story being mainly Action and Religious-Fiction, it also had a good blend of Comedy and Romance/Tragedy...the romance and tragedy being near the end...

The story was pretty in-depth though, and i tried to the best of my ability to keep up @.@ It was a good story none-the-less

im actually wonderin what anyone else thinks about it... I was actually kinda confused at the end...

the ending actually did leave me scratching my head, wonderin what the whole thing about Aion returning in the 1980s meant n stuff, does that mean a second season? And Chrno and Rosette running after killing Aion, and the whole Mary thing.... I dunno I was kinda confused haha

But It's still a great series and is definetly a reccomended watch!

Hey, that's the French version of the manga's Vol. 8 !! (Asuka being Chrno Crusade's publisher in France)

Chrno Crusade is one of the rare franchises I've both read the manga and seen the anime (since I way prefer reading manga, rather than watching anime). And I loved both. Probably one of the best shônen titles released these last years.

But personnally, I would recommend the manga over the anime : the anime had to create its own storyline since they caught up with the manga at half-point, and it painfully shows : unlike with FullMetal Alchemist's case (where while I too have here a preference for the manga, the anime is still REALLY excellent), the anime's original script is not as good and as deep as its manga counterpart (and WTF about Aion at the end of the anime, seriously, too.)

So yes, if you have the chance, go read it, and eventually, watch it !;)

I cried for a week. I'm NEVER watching the last episode again. EVER. That just sucked. I wanted to kill the director.

But I loved the series. And I prefer the anime over the manga. The manga's ending was even worse.

I like Chrono Crusade. Actually, it's one of my favorite anime. But it has a sad ending.

I have to STRONGLY disagree on this one.

First, manga spoilers on the manga's ending :
* For one, Chrno doesn't die.

* For two, Satella (as well as Fione and Shedar) doesn't too (although she now has to start from scratch her life, since she was decristallized in 1999, one year after her last friend, Azmaria, died of old age, but at least she has the resolve to live her life to the fullest in this new world her friends fought hard to create and to pass down to her)

* Three, Aion is defeated for good.

* Four, although Rosette dies, she dies happily in Chrno's arms, fulfilling her desire to see him a last time.

No really, just read the manga's last chapter, and you'll see the manga's ending is rather bright.

Second, spoilers on the anime's ending :
Now, on the anime :
* BOTH Rosette and Chrno dies (although there too, rather happily),

* Satella and Fione die,

* Aion coninues to rampage even though he was "defeated" by Chrno,

* Remington becomes a tramp of all the people (but at first, his character is different in the manga and the anime -and he's less cool in the anime IMO-)

* And Joshua has a less dignified ending in the anime than in the manga.

And, on the general mood, the anime's ending is rather dark.

So, seriously, I don't see why the manga's ending is worse than the anime's.

(As a note, I'd like to say that I've seen the anime WAY before I read the manga. Despite that, I prefer the manga.)

...I assume you are talking about the manga, despite the fact that you say "watched". In the anime I have, her brother's name is Joshua. o.o

Wow, I didn't remarked TC did that mistake in his summary O_O

Capernicus, I can confirm you, her brother's name is Joshua in the manga as well.

So, seriously, I don't see why the manga's ending is worse than the anime's.

BECAUSE!!
I am an extreme fan of the RosettexChrno pairing. They're a dynamic duo who should always be together and never be apart. As much I love Chrno and was partially glad he was immortal and didn't die in the manga, that's even worse because that means he and Rosette will NEVER be together wheras, in the anime, their souls can be united. You may laugh but I think Chrno went to heaven with her, despite being a devil. Because he's more like a saint, really. XD

I agree that the manga was better planned and wrapped things up and wasn't as dark, but my attitude is romance-based. If my favorite couple doesn't have a chance, screw it. lol And another big reason why I prefer the anime has everything to do with the visuals and the like. I like the character designs more and the colors and the music. I don't care very much about the plot, though doing what they did for the last four episodes was REALLY idiotic and it was unfair to Rosette's character.

Aaah, now I understand your point of view, 小美ドクロchan. :)

I too am a fan of the Rosette/Chrno pairing. But, I dunno why, I find their fate in the manga more fitting :

Rosette's life was short, but she lived it it to her fullest. And, since her love is tightly tied to her lifespan, the love she had with Chrno was bright and strong until the end, and she had a VERY strong moment of love at the end of her life.

Plus, about a thing you said :

Chrno and Rosette, going to heaven in the anime ? Not likely, if you think about it : correct me if I'm wrong, but there's no heaven in Anime!Chrno Crusade - and I think Manga!Chrno Crusade as well - : at the end of their lifespan, souls go to the Astral Line, are decomposed, recomposed with other fragments of souls composig the Astral Line, and reborn as humans.

So, basically, it's like one day or another, following the logic of the Astral Line, they'll technically be together.

Yes, you can counter me with the fact Chrno seems to be immortal in the manga, but I'm not that sure of it : several powerful demons died in the manga, and Chrno is kinda worn up. Sure, by saving energy like he does, he'll probably survive a while - after all, he managed to survive another 60ish years, and he was in a rather bad state -, but I don't think that'll be forever.

And, in a way, surviving like he does, and honoring Rosette's memory each year like he does, is another powerful proof of love he gives to her : he could suicide himself if he wanted to go to Rosette's side so much. But I have the feeling he thinks Rosette would be sad if he did so, and that she would prefer him doing his best to live in the world they created together.

So, yes, in romantic's point of view, the manga's ending may be sadder, but I think it's more beautiful and romantic than the anime's.

But, do not get me wrong, I'm not dissing Chrno and Rosette's fate in the anime, as it's very beautiful too. From two fates I liked, I just told which one was, in my very opinion, the best. ;)

Plus, since the plot (and the other characters as well - personnally, my favourite character in that fandom is Azmaria, followed by Satella) is very important for me as well, I hope you can understand why I prefer the manga's ending.

(And I too wholeheartedly agree with you about what they did with Rosette's character in the four last episodes of the anime. Seriously, WTF. :closedeye )

ya after having read the spoilers I guess I can just fill in the blanks myself.

I also highly agree with 小美ドクロchan's point of view. Im the type that gets so wrapped up with the main couple, that they have to be together no matter what, wether in life or death.

And the fact that Chrno lives in the manga, is just (in my opinon) appaling.

I mean he went through the whole ordeal before, and making him go through it again is just wrong.

ChrnoXRosette forever!

But after reading your opnion AceNoctali, which I find very beautiful, I can see where you're getting at as well.

Rosette does seem like that kind of person, and she would probably want Chrno to live on.

But dang I really gotta read the manga now! @.@

Sadly, I saw the ending to Chrono Crusade before the manga ending. I knew the plotline, so I wasn't so confused. But, being a weirdo, I'm a stickler for having the anime end the same way as its manga...Well, if it had a manga to begin with. o_o;

Anyways, while both endings were saddening to me, I found the manga's more filling and bittersweet. It made me smile and almost cry in the bookstore, whereas the anime just left me feeling a bit disappointed.

The anime ending...Ugh, now that I'm thinking back to it, I hated how Rosette became teary and afraid to die, while in the manga she didn't seem to fear death. (This is all from memory, unfortunately. Forgive me kindly if I am wrong.)

I guess Rosette would appear to be more like a real human ("human" in the sense of "non-anime character"), though, if she feared death. Maybe that was why the director changed it...?

To be fair...

Beware, manga spoilers ahead :
In the manga's ending too, Rosette was afraid to die ("I don't wan't to die... I don't want to diiiiiie...").

But unlike in the anime, she was not afraid of death itself : she was afraid to die, because Chrno said that, as long as Rosette was there, he would have a place to return, and before he parted away from her to confront Aion, he promised to return to her someday, and she promised back to wait from him.

She was afraid that, by dying, she would never meet Chrno again, and they couldn't fulfill their promises ("Chrno hasn't come back yet... He will no longer have a place to come back" => she said that just before her "I don't want to die" : and just after that bit, Chrno finally comes, and they are reunited.)

Dang....after reading that I got all sad again :( . Its pretty safe to say despite its the manga or anime, both endings were just tragic. Both endings had such powerful emotion behind them that wether it was the manga or anime, they both in thier own way leave you sympathetic for Chrno and Rosette.

Oooh well that would be COOL! I dunno, I just thought there'd be a heaven because Azmaria said something about Rosette watching over her. But being born again together is just as good-if not better.^_^

^YES. XD Like the SLIT in her dress!? I guess Daisuke Moriyama just did that for fanservice for Rosette fans. He did admit he was a perv. XD It doesn't really bug me though. Because it kinda elaborates on how Rosette's a rebel and I love that. XD
