I've finally decided that I'll go ahead and make my own thread as well. Of course, I may not be as good as the other users in this forum, but I can always look up to them (eyes Konata Izumi, Ookami, Megami, Serated, and all those other people).

Anyway, here's some that I've created recently.

http://i138.photobucket.com/albums/q250/darkbalance/Avatars/blncblogavatar.jpg

http://i138.photobucket.com/albums/q250/darkbalance/Signatures/Balancemadhatterbanner.jpg
(Thank you Maru for the excellent and exotic extractions!)

I decided to go for a pink theme for this character, and my avatar, I admit, isn't very creative. Somehow, though, the character on my avatar ended up darker than the one in the signature, and all I basically did was cut, resize and paste. Anyway, I'll try to post more as soon as I make them.
(By the way, I used these in my blog. Not the one in AnimeForum.)

I've just made a set for my sister who joined in a forum that I made. Of course, it's not as great as this one, but it's growing. Anyway here's the set I made her.
http://i138.photobucket.com/albums/q250/darkbalance/Avatars/Twilightavatar.jpg

http://i138.photobucket.com/albums/q250/darkbalance/Signatures/twilightsig.jpg

I tried using a Cherry Blossoms brush in her signature, and since I know now how to manipulate it a little better, it came out better than it would have two months ago.

EDIT:
Just made some new ones. I've created these for the same forum, except this time it's for myself.

http://i138.photobucket.com/albums/q250/darkbalance/Signatures/nobodydusksig.jpg

This is actually my first time creating an animated avatar (although not much is animated). For my first time, I'll admit, was okay, but in the process of making it, Adobe Image Ready really did confuse me at first (it still does actually), but after I got the hang of it, it was just really repetitive, but I finally got it down.

No way. Don't down on yourself. If you put your mind to it, you could be the best sig maker ever.
Your avatars are always so nice. They amaze me. They are so cute. The signatures are kind big, but if you like them that way, its okay. Maybe you should put a border around your works? The bgs are really cute and elegant. So great job. I hope you make more. You should start doing requests too.

First set:I love the brushes you used on the sig and how you played with the transparency I also like the avatar its very simple but really nice. The extract could have been a little bigger though.
Second set:I absolutely love the sig.The background looks like aurora beams to me.Great job on it and the cherry blossom at the back is subtle but very well placed.
Third set:This one is really great too.I like the cloud/mosaic effect and the render is different yet interesting. The avatar is also really great you are so much better at animation than I amT_T great job.
Keep making more sig^_^

Just made some new ones a little while ago. Here are some of them. (Note: I made these before I got to take your advice)

http://i138.photobucket.com/albums/q250/darkbalance/Signatures/Ladysig.jpg

http://i138.photobucket.com/albums/q250/darkbalance/Signatures/ladydysig.jpg

These two were requests that I fulfilled. The top one, was fairly easy as I tried to make it simple, yet adorable. I'm not sure if the color choice quite fit that character.

As you may have noticed, I used the extraction that Maru cut out for another request. She requested that her entire signature would be of the colors of the rainbow. Not only was that hard, but it was frustrating. I could not find a good spot to put the text so it looks horrible in my opinion, but she liked it. -.-

KuroTan

neat stuff in here.^^

okay, here i go. In your first post, they all look nice but i agree wid shougo that the extract in the first one could have been a little bigger.or make the sig size smaller.

in your second post, the first one is absolutely neato.lol.the brush work you did on it is really good and the overall effect it gives is cute.

for the second one...im thinking it would have looked better if the rainbow colours you used were of the bright kind instead of the solarized and polarized ones. (i don't know if those are the correct terms.^^')since the extract is in that colour category.hope that made sense and keep up the good work.

Nice work on the sigs, especially the ones in your first post. I love the Nobody one - the sig is great for being a first try in ImageReady. It took me a long time to learn it really well. ^^ I like the brushes you used in the Twilight one, but the text seemed a bit out of place - maybe the color should match the sig more? I loved the brushes you used on the Lady Isabelle one - it's so kawaii! Keep up the awesome sigs! XD

Those sigs are awesome! The Balance and Twilight ones are my favourites ^_^. I'd really like to see something darker and more edgy, I have a feeling you'd be good at that.

Lady Isabelle set:I love the BG the brushing is very neat and simple and I like the effects you used. The font choice is good too.
Second set:I'm not too sure about the solarize effect it distracts attention from the image. You could try and use rainbow brushes (the easier way) or get creative and make your own.
Keep updating^_^

I haven't been making a lot lately, because school now just begun for me, and I'm starting to have to do so much work. (I'm really starting to hate AP Chemistry...) Well, here's one I made about two or three days ago.
Note: Serated had done this excellent extraction.

http://i138.photobucket.com/albums/q250/darkbalance/Signatures/darkblncsig.jpg

I'm starting to have a lot of fun with these fusion brushes that I found from one of Serated's tutorial threads. This time, the background was very simple with a hint of a blue blur in the background. It came out a lot better than I had expected.

Ah, I'm sorry, I just wasn't inspired to do some photoshopping, but I have some that I made recently.

http://i138.photobucket.com/albums/q250/darkbalance/Avatars/Yoshumavatar.png

http://i138.photobucket.com/albums/q250/darkbalance/Signatures/yoshumsig.jpg

This was a request from one of my sister's friends on a different site. I think I could have made the extraction a bit bigger, but it's okay for now...

http://i138.photobucket.com/albums/q250/darkbalance/Avatars/RoyalMistavvie.jpg

http://i138.photobucket.com/albums/q250/darkbalance/Blog/RoyalMist/RoyalMistbanner.jpg

This was for one of my good friends, so she could put it in her blog. She needed to change her blog a bit, so I helped. =)

http://i138.photobucket.com/albums/q250/darkbalance/Avatars/blncmabiavatar.jpg

http://i138.photobucket.com/albums/q250/darkbalance/Signatures/Balancebannerangel.jpg

After I did RoyalMist's banner, I decided to revamp my blog as well, using a Dark Angel from Mabinogi (A Korean-made MMORPG). In the original picture, she had a little more hair, but when I was trying to extract it, the hair really looked choppy, so I gave her a haircut. XD

EDIT:
The reason why I had put the yin-yang symbol was because of my personal philosophy about balance. I put it there, because whenever I comment on someone else's blog (not the one on Anime Forum), my avatar would show, and I decided to put a little symbol that represents me a little. I also make most of my signatures 500 pixels wide because I always enjoyed the wide space, and sure it made look empty, but I always like it that way. However I'll try to make signatures smaller, maybe 350 pixels wide next time.

Oooooo! Okay, time for Jaggy comments!

1. Avvy:
I love it! The border it my favorite! It amazes me when people do borders like that. But I'd like to suggest flipping the girl so that its opposite of the signature.
Siggy:
The brushing is really nice and grungy. I like that about it. The brush thats directly underneath the text sorta takes away from the effect of the text though.

2. Avvy:
Sunflower, so cute. Maybe you could add RM to it, to make it stand out more.
Siggy:
I love your use of brush. Its really nice. The sunflowers are still cute. Maybe you could flower the border up a bit?

3. Avvy:
The ying yang sign is sorta random. Instead, if you put DB, I think it would look better. Unless you added the sign to the siggy.
Siggy:
The cloudy bush is nice, but it looks kinda empty. Maybe you could add some more brushin.

Overall:
I like your sigs. They are somewhat long though, which makes me feel like they are empty. Maybe you could add a bar or something to extend on, like a banner is done. But overall, love it! ♥

I really like the new sets that you did, especially the Yoshum and Balance ones. I love the colors and brushes that you use for the background. The only thing is that on the Balance sig, I understand why you put the yin-yang, but you might want to blur and fade it a bit so that it matches the avvy. Other than that, great sets!

http://i138.photobucket.com/albums/q250/darkbalance/Signatures/mikudarkblncsig.jpg

The avatar I used a avatar frame pack that I got, because I can't seem to be as creative with making avatars, so I'm grateful to have found this pack. I used the same pack to make the Yoshum avatar. Also for the signature I decided to make it the same size as Jagan Eye's, and made the border about three pixels thick. Sadly, I could not figure out what to do with the rest of the space that I ended up having left over. I do have to say though, I'm actually surprised it came out like this. Comments? ^^

OminousCloud

I really like the Yoshum avatar but the sig looks a bit bare same with the Royal Mist one, they just need something else. I like the Balance one best, the clouds are nicely defined but the image in the sig is too bright to the point where it looks a bit blurry.

I love the new set, it's just so cute, image positioning is good and the background is simple yet effective, the flowers in the corners are a nice touch.

Haven't posted here in a while.

So here's my commentum:

Avvy-
OMG!!!! Its so cute!!! I love the border you made on it. Its adorable and it complements the cute character so well. I do think you could have moved her head up a tiny bit so that you can see all the way to the bottom of her mouth, so its not cut off by the border. (Did that last sentence even make sense?) But I love it. Its so cute.

Siggy-
I think that it looks really cute with its small size. So you made it the same size as mine? I feel so honored. Lol. Anyways, I like the flowered corners. They are so cute. But as you said, there is a lot of empty space, but at least there is light brushing. I like that. Maybe you could get some abstract brushes to fill the empty space?

Anyways, I'm waiting to see more. ♥

I've made a signature for Anime Forum, the only problem is that I have no clue where it's from, so for now, I'll just place it here. It was a little hard, but I eventually got it. I'm not sure if I placed the tiny text effectively though...

Awwww. I love your oh-so-cute themes. They are adorable.

Now, I do think that the text in the bottom left hand corner just seems a tad random as if it doesn't belong there. Maybe you could move it up to the other text that is just floating in the middle. Then the text that says dream should be either omitted or moved to the left to line up with the other text. It just seems a little random if not. (Or the dream can stay and the other text can be omitted). I like the brushing effect you used. It is quite cute. I just thought of something to help with your empty space problem. You could duplicate the picture layer and lower the opacity and move it over so it resides in the background lightly, looks nice, and takes up space.

♥Excited about more work

Yay, some one other than me is using Firefox-Tan. The placement of the render is good, although i think a more computer based background or a vector background would fit the theme a lot better.

I haven't posted here in a while. Sorry about that, was kinda lazy to critique these last few days.^^'

First off, in the new set, the images are of the of the Firefox girl as Serated said and the Windows OS girl. I think the tiny text at the bottom is a good complement for the technological theme of the extracts. As for the dream within a dream text though, it's kinda out of place. Maybe change it? And I see you're making smaller sigs now, which is good in a way since the previous ones had kinda a lot of empty spaces in them.^^' Keep it up.

I knew the woman in blue was something that had to do with Microsoft, taking the hint from her hat, but I wasn't so sure about Firefox-tan; now I know. Anyway, I decided to take your advice, and tried to redo the signature. Since I didn't really organize my layers carefully, I had to do some things over again; however the point is that I got the Remastered version done. Hopefully this might be up to your guy's tastes. (Although for some reason it was harder to get the stars...)

Oooooo! I like it!!!! Its so cute. The improvements make it really really nice. Good job. ♥

I like how you used up your empty space when the Windows and the Firefox girls in the the back. They look somewhat lacking of color in the back though, like not as vivid as in the top layer, or maybe thats just me and my computer. You moved one of the random texts and now it looks really nice. I like it like this. I guess this wasn't a problem in the last one, but in this one, the ag.net looks to scrunched up. Perhaps you could use a different font like one of the Century ones or something else. (<-- I'm not good with font names)
Overall its really good. I like how your improving with your sigs. They are becoming really really amazing. ♥

Its amazingly adorable. Its simple and cute. I love it.

The background was done very elegantly and nicely. I like that. The text in the middle is really nice, but I think it might look nicer if you put a word or something slightly bigger than the small text above it to get it to flow. Perhaps you could have made the color of both texts the color of the dark brown on the girl's shirt. I think it would be cute. I love the little sign next to the VMN. Its adorable. The shadow under the VMN was a nice touch. Very good job to this sig. ♥

Oooooo!!! Kawaii!!!!! Love it!!!

Its done very nicely. I love the colors used in the avatar. Though I do think you should have put DB somewhere on the avatar, it still looks very cute. The signature is perfectly adorable. Though, the lowered opacity in the background for her looks somewhat unsharpened. Its looks kinda hazy. Its not affecting the sig that much though. I like the text you used though I still think you need to work on placement for the lighter white text. Maybe the text in the left hand should be a bit closer to your name? Overall, its very nicely done and I love it. Kawaii heart. ♥

Ooh, I'm glad I stumbled into the Museum! I was running away from home and I was planning to stay in a cardboard box across the street, but I think I could like it here. >=D (You have to read From the Mixed-Up Files of Mrs. Basil E. Frankweiler (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/From_the_Mixed-Up_Files_of_Mrs._Basil_E._Frankweiler) to get my bad joke.)

Now, the sets you make remind of of outer space: very out there, but beautiful and mesmerizing at the same time! Especially your latest; I always have a soft spot for stars. x3 The sig is a little off balance, though, with the dark text on the top an then the random tiny white text below it. Also, with the black running through the girl in the background, well, you can't really see her. Other than those, you're on your way, kid! =D

Cool Saber sets. First one, colour blending is noce and there's a unified look to the whole thing. The text looks a little too small though, I can't read it. Resize maybe?

Second set, nice idea making the image in the avatar inverted from the sig. The blending in the sig is also good. Kinda looks a little empty right now though. You could try upping the opacity of the brushes you used to balance the striking effect of the text on the top of the sig. Keep up the good work.=]

A new set for myself...again. This time I was really trying to learn how to create depth. I don't think I did a good job, but this is the best I could get it so far. I purposely made the avatar a completely different color to see how it would look, since it's gonna be on the mini profile anyway. I think there's too much negative space on the lower left hand corner though. I don't know what to fill it up with though... I used the most layers for this signature though, and probably later I'll think that this is nothing...I used about 17 layers just to create this.

Saber sig:I love the bg on this one with the mosaic effect and the extract is just so cute. The shadow is great and the blur on the text is perfect.Good one.^^
Archer servant sig:What you've done with this image is very creative I like the effects and the lighting but the avatar looks a bit funny(a little duller than the sig) otherwise it is one great set.

For the Archer one, were you trying to copy my style?

Balance
11-01-2007, 09:41 PM
Yes, I was. I always thought the way you made your signatures were really impressive. I noticed that you make most of your characters (how do I say this...) flare out, or burst with light or colors. I always liked that.

I've been making a new signature, but I'm trying to figure out how to make it better, and my computer is being dumb. After all, it's a Dell, and a REALLY old one at that. Too old. I need a new computer. T-T

Here I am at last.haha. My Bleach marathon had a commercial.^^'

I'll comment on the latest additions. First one is very cutesy. Use of mosaic is well done and blends well with the bg. The avatar was a nice touch as well.

Second one, I can really see Serated's style in it.^^ Brushes were well used and there's a nice colour unity to it. The only criticism I have is that I think Archer in the sig could use a little more power up (?) effects. Like a little bit more brighter to match up with the brushes. Anyway, they're still very nicely made. Good job. I'm off to Hueco Mundo now.haha. XD

Serated: A good day indeed, with you and your extracts. XD Thank you, for inspiration. =D

Here's two that I made. One for myself, but not a set for once. And the other is not for myself! Wow...big change.

http://i138.photobucket.com/albums/q250/darkbalance/Signatures/seriuossabersig.jpg

Comments: Well, I tried to create depth in here, and I think I finally got it to work in here. Although I'm starting to not like the placement of the tiny text. Perhaps I made the lens flare a little too bright as well.

http://i138.photobucket.com/albums/q250/darkbalance/Signatures/izumikonatasig.jpg

Comments: Now this one was really fun to play with. I hardly did anything with the two C4Ds that I put in there, but I somehow was able to blend it better than I thought. Pretty simple, but it seems spacious...

A new signature for a good friend. I'll make some for others as well, but this was kind of an priority. I hope that you like it...it may seem a bit dull. =\

The Cloud in the background is a bit too pixely for my tastes, and blending him more into the background would be good. The feathers are a nice touch, but it makes the sig a little unbalanced. A few more feathers on one side, or a close-up of a feather with Serated on it would be nice. Otherwise, the background goes well with the character and the fade effect on the Cloud in the foreground adds a nicely simple flair.

edit: I'm not an expert in sig making, so Jagan will have to come in soon and give you better advice.

Okay, Serated:
Ahw. Thats so cute. I don't think its dull at all. Though I do think that the mini cloud in the bg could be a bit more sharpened. I like the feathers and the whole softness of the sig. It makes it really nice. The color contrast is good too. Makes it all yuppy. (<-- jagandictionay...lol)

Saber:
Its lovely. I love the background and how well it goes with the sig. Its really nicely done. The whole sig seems well put together and I like that about it. Good job with it.

Konny:
So bright! I love the use of C4ds. They blend in so well that at first I thought they were abstract brushes. Its amazingly adorable. Great job on that! Very nice overall effect. The colors are kawaii. So cute! I love this one.

Good job so much!! ♥

What a grand idea to make a banner for your blog. The colors are very nice, the background pattern is a bit intense though, lowering the opacity may help that. ;]

The little eyes cut could be made a tad larger, it'd look more effective. Hope this helps, m'dear.

Good job! For a beginner, I like that your stuff isn't like all the other crap most beginners on here tend to have. You kind of remind me of me when I started making signatures...*lol* try not to have so much open space, and try to blend some of the stock images more. Maybe you might consider experimenting a little more with some brushes and textures? I can tell you already have knowlage on both of these things, which is something I didn't have when I first started out! XD Keep up the good work : )

Well, it's been a while since I did any real photoshopping, but here I am ready to present to you a signature that I have finished and polished today! I started making it two days ago in my Visual Communications class (Macs with Photoshop CS2, was fun except the fact that it was SLOW), started adding more effects yesterday, and today I polished it, saved it on my flash drive, took it home, did some things with the text, and then saved it. The only thing is that I didn't plan it out carefully enough, therefore causing me to have less negative space and therefore causing me to make the text squished together. Alright, lemme show you the signature at least. =D

http://i138.photobucket.com/albums/q250/darkbalance/Signatures/blncsigperf.jpg

Yeah, I was gonna just put my name on it, but I decided to let anyone have it. First come first serve. =D

No one is replying...oh well. The Duty Sig is still up for grabs. Also I'll place the name differently so that it'll look better than it does squished up like that. So yeah, it's still up for grabs. Here's a set that I made myself for the Christmas feel. I'm pretty proud of it.

A little past morning but fret not, DarkBalance, I have come at last. xD (haha, kinda tired)

I really like how it is right now and the font seems nice to me. Though I do think that there might be a little too much excess space (or maybe thats just me). I like the scanline effect because it adds nice detail. Instead of making the font so 3D, maybe it should be more flat and a lighter color so that it shows up better on the background. I like the border transition. Very nice effect. I also think the the Balance shouldn't change colors, but still, it does look nice. Goodly amazing job!

Since Jagan Eye was kind enough to consider making a New Year set for me, I decided to make one for her as well.
Except it really isn't exactly New Year themed, but oh well. XD
I really hope you like, as I get nervous about these things...

I tried to go for a cute girl, and tried to make it look good.

Wow, I am so happy. That set is soooo cute. I really like the colors and I'm extremely surprised that you got it done so quickly. I love it so very much. The expression is just too cute. Love for this set a lot. Now I have to hurry and make yours. *I'm punishing myself* [I can't use your set until the one for you is complete (it'll motivate me to do it quickly)] Love you Lighty.

I really like your sigs. The textures that you overlay on the sigs are awesome, and they blend so nicely. I like the last set - it's kawaii! The colors of the background blend really well with the extract. Keep posting! ^^

I was just minding my own business, making a signature...
Then BOOM! The idea car hit me!
I was mad for a while, until I realized that it was a good idea.
I started into the Shana signature that I had been making, and nodded to myself.
It's a good signature, however I don't think it's that great.
However I believe it suited the person perfectly.
So here it is. =D

http://i138.photobucket.com/albums/q250/darkbalance/Signatures/unlehshana.jpg

It was all on impulse. So what do you think? Anywhere I can improve?
(Also teach me the ways of layer masking, text placing, and clipping masks...)

Jagan Eye
01-04-2008, 02:05 PM
No worries, I'm working on your gift right now so it'll be done in no time.
This sig has a brightening yet deathly effect. I like that. And I know what its like to make sigs on impulses. Have an image and want to make a sig out of it. The image quality is kinda less than it could be but it can easily be fixed (unless you like it like that). [Gosh, I've been saying this to everybody] Just lower the lower part on the curves and sharpen it a bit. I think that the unlimited text could move a bit up towards the Shakugan no Shauna. The kanji is a really nice effect. But maybe you have no idea what I'm talking about with curves, but I'm assuming since GIMP has it, PS should as well, but who am I to know.

clowangel
01-04-2008, 03:47 PM
Hmm... Well, there's always room for improvement. :P Anyway, in this particular sig, I think you could've worked on blending...Maybe a gradient or two could've fixed that. The font you chose was good, but I don't really like the positioning of it and the word 'Unlimited' is difficult to see. A stroke of a lighter color on low opacity can rectify that. However, I do like the background you put together. It suits Shana.

*blink* You like scan lines a lot, don't you? ^^

Edit: Just noticed your words under the sig. Unfortunately, I have no idea what any of those really do except for text placement. Clipping mask is especially foreign to me. Actually, masking in general is foreign to me.

Balance
01-04-2008, 05:05 PM
Yeah, font is also not my forte.
I sometimes feel like a hypocrite for commenting in other people's thread sometimes.
So things I need to learn is font placement (badly),
masking and playing around with gradient maps...
and all that.

Well thank you for your comments as they will help me tremendously.
Now to find something else to work with...

clowangel
01-05-2008, 03:56 AM
Nah nah. I don't really think there's a reason for you to feel like a hypocrite. Just because you can't produce the results you want yet because you haven't attained the skills, doesn't mean you can't point it out in other people's works. After all, you will eventually get better and better. Making signatures requires an eye for detail. =) So long as you KNOW what's flawed in your own, I don't believe you should feel badly for critiquing someone else's graphics. They learn and you learn.

As for text placement and font choice, if you take a look at people's graphics who have good text placement, then you'll learn something. Look really closely at where they place their font, where the render is, and even how dark or light the font is. Personally, I don't use any complicated fonts or font effects because font is only there to negate empty space...and so people don't steal my work. >>;

Edit: Another note. For now, using scanlines can probably give you a sense of completion, but as you 'grow' and you've grown plenty, you'll probably stray away from using it as you use other techniques to complete your sig. =) I did the same. XD

I really like this sig better than the last one. The blending is much better, and the colors match well. The text also flows much better. Great set!

Layer masks and clipping masks can be great for text and other things. If you would like to learn about them, you can pm me, and TreyX also posted clipping masks for text in his second tutorial, which is helpful. ^^

This is a very cute and kawaii child.
Avvy:
I like the avatar and the way you did it. [I should check out Megami's tut]. But the image just seems a little to soft. Also I think you should have used a different font and instead of having a shadow behind the text, let it become one with the image.
Siggy:
The image is soft and I think it could be fixed to be a little bit more ummm, hard [is that the word?] I like the background and the text placement, but I think what I said for the font for the avatar should also apply to the siggy. The effect of snow was really nice and I like how you did that.
Good job!

And don't worry, you should use your set if you want [you don't have to keep using mine]

Loving the Shana sig. =) Although..not liking the white border. ><; It kinda negates the dark fiery feel.

Your current sig is also nice with very soothing colors. Now for critiquing. It can use some blending. Duplicating the render and setting the duplicated layer beneath, then Gaussian Blur at around 3.0 and lowering opacity can kind of fix that a bit.

As for the Kanon sig... -_-; Sorry, not liking it. I don't really know why, but it just feels messy to me.

An update! YAY! I haven't even touched GIMP in so long.

Did you use a c4d for this siggy? Because if you did, it was nicely placed and has a very good overall effect. I like the whole night sky effect. Very calming and soothing. I know you have text placement trouble [don't we all], but I'd generally keep all my text together. I don't know how it would turn out, but what if you moved the kanji to the left empty space and moved the DarkBalance to the top underneath it? Or perhaps you could completely get rid of the DarkBalance text and just use DB in the top right corner. Then you could duplicate the layer of the girl and move it to the left. Have the one on the farther right underneath it and lower the opacity? Would that take care of the empty space ordeal? Overall, I think its well thought out and nicely done. Good job!

So lately, I've decided to add and play around with C4Ds that I haven't used in Tutorials, and I managed to get a pretty okay effect, however I'm still feeling awkward about the outcome of the signatures that I've been creating. Especially on the fonts and text placement. So if anyone has tips and or tutorials that specify on text that would be great. Also Color Awareness Tutorials would be cool too. =P

What I did was infuse what I had observed other GFXers had done.
I added a bit of Kurotan here, Konasaur there, and Unli really inspired the fonts.
If it wasn't for them and their inspiring works, I believe it would have been a lot harder to come up with this concept.
And of course, without Serated, this wouldn't even be a signature. God bless Serated. =D Therefore it's for Serated.

some problems, the text placement on Monochrome is a bit off. Move it a bit lower; slightly hitting the Dreams perhaps? And (imo) the box is a bit distracting. Try erasing it. Maybe?

oversharpened? Remember eraser tool is your friend.
Text placement for Abstract Dreams is kinda off >.>;; maybe moving it to under Primula's chunk of hair? :3 im not sure, maybe textless would be good. Maybe. oh, try not to show too much of a C4D, hide it in some way, and I'm liking them in Lightened settings, it shows, but not the whole thing.

and I actually lol'd for a brief moment when I saw the 'not so monochrome' text!
and i have to say, this one looks damn better than the black and white. the top right kinda hurts my eyes though.

So that entry was yours', Balance? I liked the way the whole image blends. Very nice. And I don't find the font work very bad either. But if the colours were different, instead of just red, then it would look great! Try using an aqua-lime and maroon-dark yellow gradient map (those are two different maps). It always works for me and it makes the image look so crisp and nice ^^

Yep, being original and developing a style is probably the most important part of art, regardless of type. It's all about learning and adapting, and most importantly being confident even if you dun like it all that much ^__^'

So yeah, don't sweat it Balance, your stuff is great. Your Shana sig is a bit messy, try erasing certain overdone areas and blurring away some stuff to add more depth while using the sharpen tool to add more emphasis to area you want to hi-light further. Colors mismatch completely, and there appears to be a serious lack of flow to back up the signature. Although its looks as though you tried to blend, but I think you need to do more than just take something, place on the lower portions of a stock and lower the opacity. Though I do believe the render really limits ones ability to actually blend it correctly anyway.

Hautalken
05-27-2008, 01:09 AM

Thank you very much, but I'm not that skilled.
And I'm sure you will be able to make a signature like mine, or perhaps even better.
All you have to do is keep practicing until you finally get to how you like it.
Just try a bunch of tutorials and you will get the hang of it eventually.

Awesome job here! And as you already stated, Oversharpened :closedeye I'd probably darken the lower corners as well, to get rid of the extra lights and help the extract give out that shine. then Text/font job. Maybe placing the "Fionna" on top of the other text will make it look good. Texts that are too far apart isn't usually nice looking (imo) Lastly, I like the spatter on the right. But on the left looks a bit off. Maybe just erase the left spatter, or just lower a bit of the settings.

Nice job on placing a rank btw =D Definitely earned it

So C+C Please. =D

The metal gear solid sig is missing something. Maybe a bit of colour. And that black thing on the top-centre bit looks a bit awkward too. I really liked the Fionna sigs a lot. The second one is oversharpened, yes, but you can always use the fade sharpen option. Or evn just lowering your brush opacity and erasing the sharpen off her hair would do. I don't know if that left spatter is disturbing. It seems fine to me. Keep it. But just make it a bit darker or lighter. That will do...

Computer will be fixed tomorrow!!! I'm so excited!!! But I've gotten onto my dads laptop for a comment.

1st sig: I like how it flows, its very pretty. I do think its a tad too bright and it needs to be sharpened a little. It sorta feels a bit empty though, but that might be because of the text. I feel like it doesn't belong with that sig. Does photoshop have grain merge for text? If it does, I think you should use white text and grain merge it to the sig. Then put a light green stroke around the text. But overall, its a very unique siggy and its very pretty. [/repeatsself] I love the c4D use.

2nd sig: Tifa!!!! I love her!!!! And you used Advent Children Tifa. I like the background, its bright but it suits the stock. I sorta feel like she should be moved over to the left a little bit because it seems like everything is happening in the right and the left part of the sig is sorta empty. But its a very good sig, I like it a lot. So good job.

Hautalken
06-20-2008, 12:33 PM
I agree. It gives nice flow. And you probably never had to do much to get the flow. The hair does it all.
About the second one. I was going to make one of Tifa, but I needed depth. I can't blur and smudge well in GIMP and there's no options like that in Imageready, so I ended up discarding the file altogether. I like what you did with her though.

I had actually made this as somewhat as a backup, until I realized I had sent in the other one as an entry. Then I realize...that the right side of the signature, the focus's left side, of the face is really awkward looking. This one was a bit hard because it was only AFTER I started doing some things to it that I realized that it wasn't ME who made a few spots black and white, it was the picture itself. That was annoying.

Now this was a little present to one of my other friends...who calls himself MrWright. More because of Phoenix Wright rather than an actual teacher Mr. Wright.

Ah, well, time for my input.

1st: Ah, its so pretty. I like it a lot and I don't really think it needs anything changed. The shinyness is very nice and I think the text is perfect for the sig and its placed very nicely. I'm not sure how it would turn out, but so you think a one pix by one pix border would look better? Hmmm, it looks fine though. Very pretty and wonderful.

2nd: I think the effects of this sig are very nice and cool looking. I don't know, it seems a bit awkward that the right side of the face is blurred off, but I think its fine. So for this one I sorta feel that the border should be a bit thicker, but I don't know how that would turn out. Overall, your siggies are beautiful and I love them.

Mr. Wright: O____O Its so perfect!!!!!!!! I don't even know which version I like better. They are all so pretty and perfect and wonderful c4D use at Sora's [that is Sora right] hands. Text is perfect, colors are flowful and everything is in balance. I love it.

Well, that came out to be more responses than I had expected and earlier as well. During that time, I made another signature. Newest sig is so elegant. I like the angle of the girl and how the effects you used in the sig compliment the angle of the girl. I can't decide if it would look better if the sig if the text didn't cover her head or if its perfect as it is, ah, well you can play around with it if you wish. Is it me or is there a hidden face on the right side of the sig under her head? xD I see an eye. Wonderful though.

If I have said it once, I have said it a thousand times, avoid spreading text all over the place. The best way to make text work is fiddle with more fonts. If a font looks horrible, then it just might be, unless you hold down down, smack it half to death with clipping masks and text effects and force it to work for you. You also try out forms of sub text effects like putting stuff under the text like portions of gradients, brushes, or even just really simple squares and stuff.

Also, mess around with lighting. Apply Image>Filter>Render>Lighting Effects> 2 O'clock Spotlight. That works for me, see if it works for you.

Your latest sigs are very nice, Balance. I especially like the first FF sig. The lighting was progressive from left to right, and I think that this is one of your better color/lighting sigs.

I love the Sora sig - the first version. The text looks a little funny though. I agree with Serated - try to keep the text in the same area and not spread it all around. Try playing around with placement on that. The sig itself is fantastic though. Keep making your awesome sigs! ^^

The C.C signature:
The colors looks good! But what the hell is up with the Jpeg file?! It turns off a bit of the quality, no matter how high the quality is. Go for PNG, its a good file to choose imo. The C4D dodge at the dress there makes it look a bit clustered and messy, erase that bit or clip mask something on. Now for the black smudge-attempt on the right side there. Hmm. Maybe clip mask something not black/white/gray over there or remove it. Maybe something off the stock/extract. Lastly, try removing the borders. Imo, it looks better without.

Nice size there ;D 500px yo

I agree with Unli. JPG files almost always give bad quality in the end. Go for PNG from next time onwards, Balance.

About that Magaman sprite tag...
It doesn't seem like he's standing on anything at all. It looks a bit messy actually.

^ or maybe no text at all since adding text on a smudge styled signature is deviously difficult.

Hm, the collab one, I prefer the older version honestly. The different hue of green is messed up >_> It looks like lime and glowing toothpaste (refer to the color right under the text, clip mask maybe) What I like about the old one is that CC's color looks more creamy, while the newer one looks kinda flat. The borders. What I don't like about it is that you can see through it, like a cage while solid ones don't, uh, well they do seem like a cage, but it looks less like the slammer with see through bars. The effects at the left there. What the hell? It looks like a coffee mug stain with green coffee inside.

I'm cruel, but in my honest opinion, the older one looks better. Karuto, don't force stuff to work >_< Well you can, but make it look good. Oh, and Karuto, feel free to call me a foot licker in MSN if you like =DD
