Help name this anime please

I watched an anime about 10 years ago, it used to be on before i went to school.... what i can remember of the plot is that a group (some of which are family) are conduction research in space just near earth. something goes wrong when aliens discover them. All of them have something done to them which turns them evil and gives them the ability to turn into mecha form.
One of the group somehow escapes and returns to earth in a pod (i think) which is under attack by aliens, he helps to fight the aliens as he didn't become evil. Throughout the series the one who escapes comes across all of the people from the research facility who are now evil and they have mecha battles. That's all i can remember as it was so long ago.
If anyone has any idea what i'd be very grateful!

Nah, i just had a look at that one and it's definitly not it. I think possibly he may use some crystal to turn into mecha form - i'm not entirly sure though :wacko: that could be another show i've watched.

It isn't Sol Bianca is it? But I don't think it involved people turning evil.

Sounds like Tekkaman Blade since the main character use a crystal to transform.
