This has been bugging me alot ever since i saw the fight. Everyone remember when Ichigo fought Buyakuya and at the end Ichigo was about to collapse? Well before Ichigo collapsed Buyakuya used Flash Step and went away. If Buyakuya still had the strength to do Shunpo then shouldnt he have had the strength to finish off Ichigo. My guess is that since Ichigo crushed his resolve to kill Rukia he left, or it could be that he realised that Hollow Ichigo is stronger than he is. What are your openions.

i guess that since ichigo reminded him alot of kaien shiba i guess he finally realized that it wasnt worth killing him then. and he was a worthy opponet.

Well, Ichigo wasn't really just trying to finish the fight. His thinking was this: Make Byakuya understand that he needs to help Rukia, and if he doesn't, defeat him.
I believe that during the fight, because of the effort he put forth, Ichigo made Byakuya realize that they need to save Rukia. It is because of this that Byakuya left, his reason for fighting defeated by Ichigo's.
In additon, I feel that Byakuya knows that Ichigo could have simply let "the Horse" finish him off, and that Ichigo was more powerful because of "the Horse".
It's also important to remember that Byakuya had mastered Shunpo, so, even critically injured, he could use it just fine. To him it isn't physically demanding at all.

Have you even seen the fight? Really, if you had seen it, you would know that that is completely irrelevant.

I assume "the Horse" is hollow ichigo right? But anyway you make a good point. Now that i think about it. When Ichigo went bankai and put is sword to Buyakuya throat in theory he should have been able to kill him right then and there.

Byakuya prob just realized that Ichigo wasn't worth killing, that if he(Ichigo) died, that his sis(Rukia) would just go into that state of depression again.

Byakuya wanted to save Rukia just as much as Ichigo did. However, he felt duty bound to uphold the laws of Soul Society due to the promise he made after his wife (Rukias sister) died. He realized that Ichigo had the best chance at the time of saving her. I think he could have won the physical fight itself if he really wanted to. But the fight that he lost was more a battle of resolve. Because of the conflict that he had internally, he decided to not continue the fight and concede to Ichigo. He decided that saving Rukia was more important, therefore he no longer had a reason to fight.

Please Ichigo destroyed Senbounzakura. Byakuya is a good guy. Cocky. Mean.to the point, and a strong impression of justice and duty.

Ichigo broke the sword because Byakuyas resolve for he fight was already broken. The last attack can be summed up as a test of the resolve of both men. Ichigos resolve to save Rukia vs Byakuyas resolve to uphold the laws no matter what. Do you think that someone as proud as Byakuya who is from a noble house would so easily accept defeat by a lowly commoner like Ichigo if there were not some other reason? He obviously had more left in him to be able to continue fighting (and win) but he no longer wanted to fight. He wanted Ichigo to save the sister of his wife.

Did you read the manga or watch the anime. Where would you even get that idea? So your saying that you would lose to the weaker version on purpose rather than to fight the stronger one? That makes no sense.
