Ukitake(possible spoiler)

It's stated in the manga, but not the anime, that Ukitake has tuberculosis. TB is very contagious, and is often fatal. So how is it that he has survived so long w/such a disease and no one else has caught it? (I know it's just anime and not like real life, but I'm curious to hear people's thoughts.)

Captain Unohana and the rest of the 4th Division, I'd guess. I'm sure a Captain level Shinigami in the 4th could handle TB, at least enough to prevent it from killing him.

Or maybe its because Urahara gave him something that cause it to stay when in him and not go around.

Well, I'm pretty sure that you don't get normal diseases in the world of Bleach. IMO, this "tuberculosis" is probably some type of reiatsu infection which causes symptoms similar to TB. I mean, didn't Rukia say that Soul Society was a place free of hunger and sickness? So I'm assuming it means the bacterial/viral/parasitic kinds. Besides, the idea of a purely spiritual disease would be interesting to see.
