What do people think of a Dragonball movie, not animtation but with actual people. Do you think it would translate well from anime?
Personally I'm not so sure. Just think of Streetfighter and Mortal Combat, ok MC wasn't as bad as Streetfighter but still pretty poor. Though technology has come a long way since then allowing classics like Fantastic 4, etc. Any thoughts?
Personally I think the Frieza saga would work best. Now who would play Goku... have to think about that one.

Put simply, no. Anime was not meant to be live action but to be, animated. To have it be live action would just kill it.

Hate to be the bearer of bad news, but it may not happen... ever

WB was considering creating a live action DBZ starring Hugh Jackman as Goku a couple of years back, but changed their minds when he didn't comply with their rules (I can't really remember the specifics on why he got fired)

Since then, every attempt to create a live action DB movie has been put to a halt.

What do you mean "bad news"? Thats great news. Did you see what they did with Street Fighter & Mortal Combat??? In my opinion those were made to be movies. Imagine how they could destroy DBZ.

I really doubt that there will be a Dragon Ball Z movie, because, well... I think DBZ is one of those series that are better off as it is (animated). Besides, there IS a live action Dragon Ball movie from 1989. I saw it... and, yes: ouch, my eyes. If you want to know more about the movie, go here (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dragon_Ball:_The_Magic_Begins) and here (http://www.badmovies.org/movies/dragonball/).

......... Wow.

And THAT should be enough reason NOT to have a live action DBZ movie.

Oh man that's sad.
Yeah recreating the magic of DB live would be hard, just the fact that they thought of Hugh Jackman was the first mistake. I guess if it did take place, it would need a lot of careful planning or don't even bother at all.
What got me thinking was a clip on youtube of two guys displaying their various energy techniques put together in a park, personally I thought their 5 minute clip was better than the entire Streetfighter film!

I think that it would be a good idea, but it would be hard to do. It was really hard for Lord of the Rings to go from book to live action, but when it happened it was really cool!

I noticed in all dragonballz series that when they're fighting they always start looking in each one's eye for about 1 minute or more.. but it adds more excitement

I remember in one episode when someone commented that "the two fighters are just standing there looking at each other and not fighting".
Picallo's response was that, "when faced with the prospect of death in a fight, it's understanable that you don't just rush in to battle". Or something to that effect.

that thing usually happens before they fight they will look and talk to each other for quite long time..

I heard rumors that there would be one since 2001 or 2002. I don't know who'd be good for Goku, but a friend of mine said that Vin Disel would be perfect for Frieza. Still, I dont think that the anime would translate well.

How about Chuck Norris for Goku

Vin Diesel!! Man I'm glad your friend is not in charge of casting... Frieza is suppose to look fairly harmless and small, in his final form anyway.
I agree though I think it would be extremely difficult to get the perfect translation right, and I think anything other than perfect or close-to-perfect would not be acceptable.
Goku, hmm well personally I think he would need to be someone like Jackie Chan (younger), someone Asian but still with a western look. I guess a younger Mel Gibson could do it but I can't imagine him in the traditional Japanese clothing.

I personally disagree. I don't see the need to be so strict/picky to translation. As long as the point comes across that's all that matters. To be honest, they're not going to be able to fit a lot and they probably would have to cut out quite a bit of stuff to make good time.

What's most important to me is the fight scenes. They can't be cheezy, that is unacceptable.

There was some Japanese real life movie of DragonBall, I have never watched it but it looked pretty ridiculous from what I saw of the box. I think GT gave DragonBall a bad enough name without butchering it even further with a "real life" movie.

I completely disagree.

It's not just that I'm "Go live-action", but I don't think DBZ has to worry about being butchered. It needs to worry about squeezing more blood out of the turnip than it already has, and the best way of achieving this is with a life-action movie.

Yeah, User_Name I guess the point I was trying to make is that it would be very easy to make a complete joke of the Dragonball series if you don't understand it or are not a fan.
So yes they don't need to be that strict in their translation but in doing so would hopefully prevent any disastors like was seen the previous attempt. Consulting some of the writers of the series would definately be a must, kinda like they did with Stan Lee on all the Marvel movies and the Harry Potter stuff.

Thats a good question, well it really depends, look at mortal kombat,it was an anime and they made into a real life movie and it was good, for dragonball z i dont think so because dragonball z has too many fantasies for a real movie to be made,so it really depends.

I think that it will not translate well even if it had a strict planning or not. Yeah, Mortal Combat was more or less acceptable, but they couldn't fly around the Earth in 5 minutes or have such crazy hair styles.

I don't know.. I think I disagree here, sorry... >_< A real life movie would ruin dragon Ball me thinks.. GT already did screw it up enough for them!

That's bad... I don't think that DBZ should be made in to a none animated movie that would just be bad. The only way it would work is if people could do the stuff they do on DBZ.

Well, one point I failed to make clearly in my post is that DBZ can't be screwed up any more than it already is. Any more butchering wouldn't be that bad, infact it might get the series more fans.

I don't argue they would make quite a few penny out of the idea. Here maybe this might help you understand my view;

I had invited this rather good looking girl over for a date, we got ourselves into a conversation; she hated DragonBall Z and said how much it sucked, I sat her down to watch Lord Slug. She loved it so much she got all her friends into it as well.

Now I used a good Dragon Ball movie as an example to her and it interested her, she didn't like it cause she had never really sat down to watch DragonBall. Now you can imagine what would happen if she sat down to watch the new "real life" DragonBall movie which would most likely be like any anime/cartoon copy and totally ruin any chance she could have had to appreciate DragonBall.

User_Name as butchered as DragonBall is, it is the most commonly known anime series I can think of. I know GT made a mockery of it but I still have Pride in my DragonBall Z and it's previous series.

I think it would suck. The effects wud probably be really bad.
