It is official, Gundam fans. A new Gundam series has officially been announced. According to the article at AnimeNewsNetwork, the new Gundam series will premier in October of this year, and take place in the year 2307 AD, making it the first to officially use the real calendar system. There is also a short trailer, but I wonder what everyone would be expecting from this new incarnation.
You maid my day with this announcement...

Right after I posted, I checked out the trailer, and I am already hooked. Looks like SEED mechs with better character design. I am psyched to see how they do this series.

The U.S. release most likely wouldn't come until a few months after the conclusion to this series. That means that assuming it goes about 49 episodes, then it would end sometime in August or September, and then begin release in America no sooner than 6 months after that, but more likely a full year or so. That said, there is always the hope that a fansub group will pick it up. I just hope enough people get into it, since it doesn't share the SEED title.
To be honest I am rather nervous about Gundam 00. Especially with the way the SEED saga turned out. For me at the moment the series hinges on how the Solestial Beings are going to be portrayed.
If Solestial Beings is going to be the 'good guy' faction of the series, then it really is doomed from the start. Gundam was at its best when all factions involved were shades of Grey. SEED ruined this with the introduction of the Clyne Faction/Three Ships alliance. The group was always right, everyone else was wrong, that's it.
Now if Solestial Beings are the 'bad guys' well, that's when things would get fun and interesting...

Well, it the style... No matter if it's a Grey or black faction, it is still a black faction. It's just like saying 'No matter if it's half-truth, 80% truth or even 99.999999% truth, it is still a lie.'
It is in the end, there must be the good guys to end it. What we see is Clyne faction is what they believe in the truth and that is what they believe in, doesn't mean that everyone will even you will believe in that way... ain't it right?
I think the Solestial Beings might be mercenaries since it was mentioned as "a private military organization bent on eradicating war." So it might start as a Grey Faction. How it might progress, I do not know, but most likely some extraordinary thing might happen that changed the 4 characters.

Also, just because the characters start out on a certain faction or side in a conflict, doesn't mean they won't change. And Gundam was at its best when the protagonist had a chief rival who he fought throughout the series (Amuro and Char, Kamille and Scirocco, etc).

but can it match the level of gs & uc?
& will it be a success or a flop?

Well, I think since it has the mech design (seemingly) from SEED, then it has a chance. I think the success depends on two factors:
1. Will fans of SEED follow to the new series, after getting used to the adventures of Kira, Athrun and the gang?
and 2. Will fans of Gundam follow to a series that essentially takes place, for the first time, in the "real" world (AD calendar)?
*joins in the frenzy...
The tagline on the official website reminds me of a recent/ongoing Super Robot mecha anime, "Juusoukikou Dancouga Nova".
Since they using AD calender format, I reckon the plot and story setting reflects a bit/much of the recent conflicts going on today and I hope it's not another teenager with slight/ unstable emotion conflict piloting a 30-foot war machine.
With rumours of involvements of different Director, Character Designer and other staffs, I guess it gonna be fresh perspective of Gundam franchise.

The idea of a fresh interpretation of Gundam is something that has me very excited. Don't get me wrong, Tomino is a genius, and I enjoy his work very much. But sometimes for a franchise to continue strong, it needs a new voice. I just hope that Gundam 00 is focused less on teen angst and more on the effects of war and stuff like that. SEED was good, but not in my top 5 Gundam series. I also hope that this new Gundam series is a true original, not a mere re-hash like SEED was.

Hmmm It seems that gundam saga will developed backword. as we know that UC is more advaced than AD. wich means their technology is more out to date to Zaku or even ball. And if its technology was better than UC it sure will cause a huge confuse. maybe Tomino wanted to created the paralel story like SEED. well In my mind this battle will be filled with tank and aircraft like one year war. But i still want to watch it.

I didn't see any of that stuff in the trailer. I saw mechs that looked like SEED-style designs. Plus, it takes place 200 years from now, so the chances for high technology, ala UC or CU is very good. Giant laser beams, beam sabers, giant mechs all standards in Gundam after all.

I had viewed the Gundam Double Zero trailer. My it was very eye-poping with new characters and mecha.
I had seen Gundam Seed, Destiny and also Stargazer hoping this will be more action packed and full of thrill.
If you have not seen the preview you may see it at this url Gundam 00 (http://animax-2u.blogspot.com/2007/06/gundam-seed-00.html), You may want to check out the official site but it will take very long time to load the preview as the above site will immediatelly cast the preview.

I agree with you Shinigami Ichigo. The tralier show two Gundam or maybe they are the same one, but to the point is that they do Look alot like the Strike gundam but with a bit more touch up. The first one show the gundam carrying a Weapon similar to the Buster Gundam Or the Strike Gundam Cannon (for got what it was called) and the second one show it look alot very simlar to the strike gundam without any mounted pack's on it. Also thank you soo much Shinigami Ichigo I've been wondering when was the new gundam comging out :D!!!

The main characters look like the main character from getta Robo.
*joins in the frenzy...
Hmmm... the Gundam Exia using the traditional main character/hero colour scheme (white, blue, red, yellow). Do they ever tired using the same colour scheme for each leading character in every Gundam series they produced? (Except for Strike Noir, using black rather the traditional blue colour, since Sven Cal Bayang sort like the anti-hero in Stargazer). At least the mecha design is different as it's the fusion between Arbalest and Strike/Impulse Gundam.
I speculated that in Gundam 00, it's more to ideology/faith -related war and clone/genetic-engineered human is the sub-plot of the storyline. The story still confines within the Earth-sphere. But, hey, it's still everyone guesses and we have to wait until October to see the real deal.

The speculation will probably continue to go on until the premiere of the series, but I think everyone has things that they would want to see in a Gundam series. I just want them to tone down the teen angst a bit, after Destiny. Other than that, I have no real preferences, I am just excited to see how they treat this new timeline.
As for the color scheme, I guess their opinion is the old 'if it aint broke, don't fix it'. I just wonder if the rival mech will be a red color.

uhh..... I cant guess the story
You know Ive already though That UC is more advace well then AD. I cant predicted the timeline but as the colony and NT is characteristic of UC the only thing i belive that we cant find them in Gundam 00 though. wich mean the scale of soldier both side is lesser.
I really cant rip my opinion about the change of calendar from AD to UC (you know that UC is only reach 0080 but EF still fight Zeon) But in this saga the calendar is begun in 2307 AD well then it suposed the tech is move backword
As wo know there suposed to be a great event to make the calendar change. And we know the as the colonialization of space wich will advace to a battle betwen Zeon and EF and the advace of NT
well i must see the trailer first. I hoped that it wont make the timeline getting worse
Shinigami Ichigo
06-08-2007, 08:02 AM
I think the timeline won't really affect things like technology and things like that. The main reason for that is that, as I recall reading somewhere, the UC timeline began around the year 2100, so if anything, this new AD timeline would have more technological advances. I mean, in UC series, people still rode around in jeeps and stuff. I wonder if we will have some flying cars in this series.

Yeah man, the Clyne Faction was the sux0rs, and it really turned a lot of people away from SEED. Good point.

If I remember Gundam correctly, then the protagonist's faction (the side he happens to fight for) is considered the "right" side, even if they are not really. This is just a basic rule of anime, that the lead character is somehow infallible. For instance, even though the Federation had its short comings in original Gundam, they nearly automatically become the good guys when compared to the philosophy of Zeon. It is just a matter of how self righteous the faction is (I accept that the "good guys" in SEED/Destiny were overly preachy). I hope that Gundam 00 will go back to the roots a bit in this respect.

Hmm... its a good thing somebody already open up about this topic. Anyway about Gundam 00, Actually it may surprised all of you to know that this Gundam series wasn't inspired by Gundam Seed. This series was actually inspired by The Gundam Wing series.
Kidō Senshi Gandamu Daburuō or Gundam Double 0's plot was derived from the plot of GW... 16 year old teens doing war... 4 of them to be exact but according to my research Sunrise might surprise as that the "Heroes" might turn out 5... Hence the similarity from GW.
Not only that, The main character Setsuna F. Seiei also have traits that was taken from GW's main character Heero yuy. Set (Setsuna) like Heero already was already trained or already is a Gundam pilot at the age of 14 the same age when Heero first became Trained for the Pilot of Wing. Set like Heero is a quite young man and has also grown in the presence of War.
The plot of Gundam 00 depicts an era that is war torn but not like in any UC or CE their plot follows that in order to Stop war... You must the Gundam. Same plot tht was used in GW when the colonies was abused by the Earth Fed.
Also Sunrise hopes to lure the GW community in this series by giving a familiar feel about the series that attracted many in GW. Also the series had something that GW didn't have... Sunrise's control. GW was shortened due to problems during production and leaved some viewers clueless on whats really happening and the feel of the characters due to Bandai's constant interferance. With that and experinces from their latest Seed, Sunrise hopes to merge everything to one big Reunion of old and new.
Anyway since everything I have said was not really fully opened up By Sunrise and the series itself is still in constant tweeking, Hey with Bandai at their back there's no question about it... There will be changes. we can expect changes when it lunches in the 2nd week of October.
As final note... it doesn't look like Seed.

06-09-2007, 09:03 AM
The look of the series overall, definitely is different than SEED. The part that looks like SEED is the mechs, which probably comes from the fact that the same person has been responsible for mech designs for Gundam for a long time now. I just hope that this series doesn't end like Destiny did (main characters are totally invincible, and their mechs can't even take damage in the final confrontation).

Well the designers of the mecha's most especifically Kunio Okawara who also did the Mechas in Seed in Gundam 00 wants to make it more mature in nature. In Seed they wanted to have the UC feel of Tomino's original design in order to drag in UC fans but still remain fresh with new fans.
In Gundam 00 however, The designs are mean't to drag in fans from the whole Alternate Timelines of the Gundam Universe Like GW, GG and GX. Aside from that Okawara also got to work with Katoki Hajime (Gundam Wing and God Gundam Designer). Hajime's perspective was also put in G-00 maybe due to the popularity of the FIX Version of Gundam Especially the Wing Fix Version who was rated as the highest seller since its launch and is considered as a valueble collectors item.
If you look at Gundam Excia and Wing Fix carefully you would see more similarities in the mech design than that of Seed mechas. Bandai wanted the designs to sold like pancakes and since the FIX Ver. did a great impact on their sales it was put into account.
Too bad Hajime didn't do the design on the Gundams since during his time in Gundam Wing, Bandai interfered with GW's concept story and Hajime's Design that made the series feel uncomplete... In which is it is really uncompleted. This was also reflected when V Gundam who Tomino even said a show that should not be watched or even cursed coz of Bandai's constant interferance... and this is Coming from tomino who actually created V Gundam.
BTW... G-00 is directed by Seiji Mizushima, you would recognize him as the series director of Fullmetal Alchemist and Dai Guard. So can't wait what the hell is he ging to do with the series. Since Seiji likes bloody anime, Give him a war story like Gundam 00 and Poof... well let us just leave the imagining for now.
*joins in the frenzy...
Recently, Bandai has unveiled all four main characters and their Gundam Meister with some of their character info and specs.
As for the characters, I have to agreed with shinryuzero, Setsuna has some traits of Heero (just a year older than Heero) and I reckon it has some aura of Gundam Wing to it (more beautiful boys.... Bzzz); except they age between 16 - 25 years old.
As for the Meisters, all except Virtue has similar to Strike-Arbalest (maybe the original Gundam too) design. (Virtue sort like the reincarnation of UC heavy -armoured Gundam design, Psysalis/Stardust Memory design in particular). I wonder that the story involved a character that deserted/deflected the Solestial Beings since all the main characters have their Gundam designated model from GN-001 to GN-005 with No. 004 missing.

The fact that it's set in a world using the AD calander makes me wonder if they're running out of ideas for era names, but it also makes me think that it might have a little more to do with the current events of the/our world.
From the trailers, it looks fairly promising. I think it will be interesting to see if how well it does, considering how SEED and SEED Destiny bombed with a lot of fans of the original Gundam series and its predecessors where AU Gundam universes are concerned.

GN-002 Gundam Dynames - I kinda think that this Gundam was patterned with Buster of Seed. Oh, well my favorite mobile suits are the Artillery type like Buster, The Canon and Freedom ( The complete package Gundam ).
I'm exited about this new Gundam series. Comparing Seed Destiny with Gundam Wing, I was sorta disappointed with the former. I hope Gundam 00 with be an explosive on like its trailer! hehe~!
Thanks for the update! :D

I just hope it doesn't turn out like gundam seed destiny. This is coming from a guy who grew up with the old UC gundam series. Now this is way in the future so i wonder how it is going to turn out.
Now does it come out in America? Such as would it premiere on Toonami? I hope it does.
Now i looked at some of the clips and what? There is no zaku, no zeon? Ehhhh!? And since it is in japanese it will be a while for it to hit U.S.
