Is Lee Bailong a carbon copy of Bruce Lee?

There are striking similarities between Bailong and Bruce.

Like Bruce, Bailong is an international martial arts superstar who died at young age under mysterious circumstances. Bailong also combined boxing, Muay Thai, and karate into a martial art called Dao Dan Do.

Dao Dan Do is reminiscent of Jeet Kune Do, which Bruce Lee developed from blending of the useful elements of Kung Fu, Karate, jiu-jitsu, boxing and wrestling.

I didn't know Bruce Lee had fans in Japan, given his film Chinese Connection was pretty anti-Japanese.

Shaman King makes me wonder if there are Bruce Lee fans in Japan? I have yet to see a Bruce Lee reference or a Bruce Lee clone in an anime or manga aside from Shaman King.

Lee Bailong isn't a copy of Bruce Lee. It's a char that was developed coz of two resons, either it's coz the author wanted to make a parody on Bruce Lee or coz he was a great fan of him.

Edit: on the other hand I actually don't realy care if he is, but he has similar qualities.

Lol! Yo Asakura freaked out while watching Lee bai long's movie. I think he is strong too but still amidamaru is the best!!!!

I believe, yes. There are many similarites, and i think the reason the mangaka wrote about him is to at least give him more exposure to us younger generations who may, or may not, have insight on him. N i suspect the mangaka might be his fan too, coz the pics from the manga are eerily similar with bruce's movies.
