You mean the kamehame ha?
I liked Dragonball, back when Goku was a cute wittle boy. And I liked DBGT, just because Trunks was there... but it's not the most awesome anime I've seen, and although I LURVE shounen action *explosions*, I wouldn't call the whole series "amazing". Sorry.
And to everyone else, I know this topic is a target for bashing and flaming, thus I would advise the older and more mature members to watch their words. Let's be easy on the kiddies :closedeye

Hey, I'm here for a reason. If it gets as far as flame fights, I'll either delete the offending posts or just lock the topic.

I like it because it was a classic when it began. And it was one of the first animes I ever saw next to Pokemon.
The characters are all so different and its cool how the personalities of them all were brought out in the series. But maybe [Goku shouldn't have died 10000000000000 times].

well i guess we all loved because it was kinda new and it was somtin to kill time when u come home from school considering how the franchise was, characters were awesome too but when u look at it now u realize that even 13 episodes series can do way better than 400 plus episode series since then animation and story has gotten better cuz all dbz did was tell the same story with new characters over and over. despite all that i stll love it. lol. hope i didnt stray too far from the topic.

-Thinking back to the fact that saiyans get a good deal stronger when their near death- I figure they killed him so many times to in part advance the plot and part to explain how he got so much stronger than he was during the previous fight.

I think it's good because of the action. DB was the best! It was the funniest.
I agree with Jagan Eye, Goku died too many times, so it's no fun when anyone in the series dies because they never stay dead.

the dragonball and dragonball z series were exceptionally well made and liked by the fans and audiences young and old...but the dbgt series had too many loopholes...so its not at all "amazing"....
don't really just 'em i guess

DB Series are great overall. They are one of the few old anime that influenced present developing anime today. ^__^

Endless action, humour, bite size plot, and some fantastic hair. :D
With Goku being rather Zen and hard as nails it makes it really hard not to like him.
There are Dragons and demons, wishes and weapons.
Pretty much everybody has some kind of neat trick.
You're guarenteed to see someone or something get soundly thrashed every episode, and probably go through some kind of mental/emotional crisis or revelation. There's also a lot of team work.
Finally, and most importantly (like you could forget), it's got TRUNKS in it. http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b177/alleepix/lovwub.gif

Why is db/dbz/dbgt amazing?
It's not...
There are many anime that are better than dbz(way too many action for my taste),even the older ones...
It is good, but it isn't THAT good...
Anyway, this is only my opinion, eveyone has different taste...

Lolz, it's quite true.
I guess the question is why people prefer it to other things?
I'm hooked, and once I'm hooked, I'm loyal. ;)
For me it was the characters, they were very strong and you actually got to care about them. In a lot of series you just don't care about or relate to any. The plot twists also kept things interesting (yes, yes the only complaint might be that the Frieza battle went on slightly too long).

Actually, another thing that rejects me from watching it again is the fact that they talk way too much while powering up...
And there's lost sence of fighting with those lightning-speed punches/kicks,and with too much flying+energy balls...
First DB,with chibi Goku,Tenshinhan,Krilin,Picollo...
Ah,those were the days...
Martial arts,nice and easy-to-track fightings...
A bit exaggarated with Chaotzu and his mind abbilities, but it was awesome...
Especially the fight Goku vs. Tenshinhan, and Goku vs. Picollo...
Those were the awesome fights...

sorry i meant anyone
I like DBZ for the same reason I like most anime, but what's great is that it is a completely different way of doing things, where gravity doesn't matter and bombs can be made at one's fingertips.

The reason why DragonBallZ is amazing is very simple. Despite being predictable, and very flawed (more and more so as the series continues), it still manages to be entertaining. I can analyze it and pick it apart to display all the wrongs about it, and yet, when I watch it, I am entertained. It is because of this that even though people complain about it so much, it has lasted so long.
Gotta disagree with you there, I was always surprised at the twists and turns that DBZ took. Sure, to a degree things were predictable but then so are most movies.

for those who are telling there favoret "titles" i like to call it. this post is not for that kind of things. this is a post that we are supose to tell why we love the DB, DBZ and DBGT. i love them becouse it showes that there is something worth fighting for no matter the cost. another reson is that most of the battles were fight to the death. and all the cool moves that they come out with.
well i love it cuz the fights are cool and the story is very good!

The Dragonball series, up until the Buu debacle, followed basic patterns of all mythology and spectacular stories. I'll lay out a couple.
- Goku doesn't know his parents, but will save the world (just think of all the myths and legends that have this feature).
- He has seemingly supernatural abilities
- He has a horde of companions. In DB, Bulma is the equivalent of a sidekick, with Oolong as a character called the parasite. He's not necessarily living off of Goku to his detriment, but he just kinda tags along. It's like Jar-Jar Binks in Star Wars (SW follows these same archetypes; that's why DB and SW are so successful. They're modern myths).
- As the journey continues, more and more allies, though not always companions, are gained (Yamcha & Puar, Krillin, Roshi & Turtle, Tien, etc.).
- The hero faces increasingly difficult and seemingly impossible trials.
- The hero and his companions (it's nearly always a he) usually recieve help from the Gods or some other supernatural force.
- The hero may conquer death or rise from the dead, sometimes repeatedly.
- The hero is one of the following:
(A) of noble birth; the hero may or may not know this.*
(B) predestined to save kingdoms/nations/worlds/etc. (Bardock's visions)
(C) of common birth. This type is a recent invention, present only from the 17th century on.
- Depending on the region of the world in which the myth is created, redemption is either viewed as utterly impossible or very necessary to life. There is no middle ground on this issue. (think Vegeta v. Goku)
- There is usually a bumbling pair (think fat man/thin man comedians) travelling with the hero. Early on in the series this would be Bulma and Oolong, then Yamcha and Bulma, and finally Krillin and Yamcha, which is the pair throughout most of the series. GT screwed this up BIG TIME.
- If the hero is to leave, the hero's decendents take his place (like a royal lineage). Gohan does this, up until the whole grand plan is thrown into the wastebasket during the ending of the Buu charades (I think Toriyama just wanted to END it before he died of old age).
- GT picks up the lineage idea with Pan (one of the few things done right in that rehash).
- Magic is prevalent, with the exception of heavily Christianized legends.
NOW DOES THAT FIT, OR WHAT!?!
The second reason I think people like DB and its relations is the style of animation. Many other animes draw children as if they were eight years older than in truth (see Naruto, in particular). Toriyama, for whatever reason(s), drew them as cute lil' kids for most of Dragonball.
* Toriyama originally based DB on an ancient Chinese legend involving the Monkey King (Goku), so one could argue that Goku is, indeed, of royal birth, at least in concept.
