Would you have liked the series more if they started off with kenshin being the Battosia and then making a transition to just rurouni kenshin or it would not have had an effect on how you feel about the series?

Also what are some of your fav. parts of the series

I liked when Kenshin and Sanosuke fought and when kaoru got mad when Megumi was tring to get with Kenshin:laugh:

Well, I think your talking about the show. The American dubbing really messed the show up (in my opinion), so it wouldn't have made a difference. To get the real show, you should watch the X Samurai movies.

My favorite parts in the series was the whole epic with Sojiro and Kenshin. It was really great.

does the samuarai x movies show kenshin as we see him in the american version or not

Well, it depends on what you mean by that. No, he doesn't look exactly like the American dubbed Kenshin. He looks more real. He still acts like the real Kenshin, but its different because its a different Kenshin (as in he's not so happy)

Tell me, what's so great about Kenshin.

I like the way the started it because it leaves questions about what Kenshin's past was and it's interesting to see as people from his past show up and the figuring out what exactly did happen in his past.

Or you could always watch Samurai X before Rurouni Kenshin if you feel you MUST know right away.

I'm with Miyukara, I like how we learn a little bit more as the season progress...would I love Kenshin as much if I'd watched the OVA first? I'm not sure, I pretty much fell in love with the show from the first episode so its hard to envision not liking it.

My favourite parts of Kenshin are his Oro? moments and when his with his master.

((I watched the Kenshin seasons and OVA in Japanese with english subs, just for the record.))

It would be cool if they started kenshin off as battosai

I agree because in the english version kenshin brings up stuff that happen way back in his past but we don't really get to see them

Same here, the show always left you wndering exactly what happened to him in the past and therefore made his character more mysterious. Also as seen in Samurai X he was all serious and didn't have his fun personality that we see in Rurouni Kenshin which is one of the things I love about him, one minute he could be so care free and the next so deadly serious.

I have to agree with the others, if the viewers immediately knew Kenshin's past right from the start, the story would have been boring.

I liked on the first episode where he slammed that imposter battosai into the ground of the dojo.

to all the other characters, kenshin's past is mostly a mystery, and they didn't show his past to us either so that we feel the same way towards his as people like Kauru and Yahiko, etc. do. And whenever they find something out about it, obviously we do too. But we start by seeing him as a gentle person. If the first several episodes were how he slaughtered people, it would give a permanent image of him as a killer, and the rest of the anime wouldn't work out the way it did.

i think it started off fine. but it mite of been a lil cool to see sum more flashbaks from wen he wuz the battosai as the show prosessed... but it wuz really good without that. :]

The story's fine the way it is, if you'd ask me, only the dubbing and translation messed up the whole story.

Face-off between Saito and Kenshin.

Dunno. To me it would be all the same.

Most of the people in this thread REALLY need to read manga volumes 18-28; both of the Samurai X OVA's are pathetically bland in comparison to the manga's finale.

Favorite part was Enishi's final Kyoukeimyaku scene. The pure epicness of the beating he was handing Kenshin made me stare at the pages for about a minute each, as baffled as I was.

Yes I think I would have like the series better if they started it with Kenshin being the Battosai rather than seeing his repented side right off the bat. I still really enjoyed the series despite the opening. I think my favorite part would be when Kenshin fought with shinomori aoshi.

Nah. Rurouni Kenshin wasn't a "coming of age" story, it was a "finding your truth" story. Kenshin is introduced when Kaoru meets him, and we learn more about him about the same pace as Kaoru does.

Also, I think that fans tend to think of Kenshin and Battousai as two separate people too much. It's the same guy: Kenshin doesn't have multiple-personality disorder. The only difference between Battousai and the Kenshin that Kaoru knows is that Kenshin is a decade older and wiser than Battousai. In other words, a more mature version of his younger self, which is standard for every human being. Anyone who read the manga knows that 15 year old Kenshin had basically the same personality as 28 year old Kenshin. He simply modified his philosophy when he realized the folly of partisan killing.

It's good until the Kyoto era is over. After that, it starts to suck.

hmm.. Starting it that way i would have altered the story, because its about kenshin over coming his guilt as battousai the slasher. So, starting the series as him being battousai would make the series slightly longer i guess. But i wouldn't want it either way! ;)
