Out of all the villians in Rurouni Kenshin, who do you think is the strongest?

Shishio. Not only is he a swordsman with a spirit comparable to Kenshin, he is clever, cunning, and has control over heat.

Definitly Soujiro. This is my favorite charactor in history.

Rurouni Kenshin-hmm...Shishio

Shishio. Not only is he a swordsman with a spirit comparable to Kenshin, he is clever, cunning, and has control over heat.

He certainly stands out. Shishio, the way I remember him, is as one of the villains to give kenshin the most trouble and the one I started to dread would bring my favorite hero down. I wonder how the fight would have changed if at all, if Shishio wasn't so badly burnt and Himura not so injured before the duel began...

(( MINOR SPOILER TAG!!! ))

Strongest villain? Unquestionably Shishio. Recall that towards the series' close, Kenshin, Aoishi, Sanosuke, and Saito individually went up against Shishio to thwart his plans for Japan. All of them were defeated rather effortlessly on Shishio's part, save Kenshin, who as the leading character, gave him probably the most difficulty; though Saito did almost succeed in finishing Shishio had he directed his attack towards another part of his body rather than his forehead.

In all odds, Shishio's victory would have been absolute had his body been able to hold out during combat for a longer period of time than just 15 minutes. Also, while Soujiro was definitely a powerful opponent for Kenshin, he does not quite amount to Shishio's level of skill and strength. Still, I do question one thing: had the group been fully rested for the battle with Shishio, there might have been a slight change in the way the battle unfolded. Kenshin waged two incredibly difficult battles before reaching Shishio, if I remember correctly, with Aoishi and Soujiro, so he was already very well exhausted. But I'll avoid getting in that, for I've given my opinion. Ciao.

It would be very interesting to see how the situation would have panned out had both Himura and Shishio been fresh and uninjured. But would we have appreciated it as much knowing that the hardships they faced before their battle had been evened out?

And that question is better left unanswered.

Shishou, Is the strongest for my opinion, It took a while for kenshin to get to him, and the others were very strong also.

Yeah probably Shishio but followed closely by Saitoh. They fought against each other through the revolution and it always seemed to be a stale mate.

Shishio because I agree that it seemed as if it took longer for Kenshin to kill him.

Technically Kenshin didn't kill him. He wounded him pretty bad which caused Shishio to overheat.

I can see how everyone says Shishio here, but I definitely have to go with Enishi.

Kenshin would have probably been killed by Shishio had he not burst into flames, though he looked like he would've made a very strong last stand had that not happened. However, Kenshin also would've probably been killed by Enishi had he not used the Ryuu-Mei-Sen at the last second. It's so difficult to decide, since Kenshin always has such a weird way of beating his opponents.

I see what you call weird, as heart. Kenshin when his at the end of his strenth, digs deep to find that last important attack. Thats what I love about him *grins*.

Enishi. That's why he was the end boss, people.

Shishio's my favorite, though. If it weren't for that whole spontaneous combustion thing (South Park, anyone?), would he have won?

Aoshi. If he would have fought Kenshin when Kenshin was going after Shishio, like he fought him previously, it would have been much more intense.

It's so difficult to decide, since Kenshin always has such a weird way of beating his opponents.

The problem in your logic is, against Enishi, Kenshin had a way to defeat him (the Ryûmeisen) and thus control the battle ; against Shishio, he did had such a way to change the tables of the battle to his advantage. it's because of an element not under his control (Shishio's overheat) that he did "win".

So, technically, Shishio should be the strongest of the two. Ok now, we have to take in factor the fact Kenshin faced Enishi with his "answer", while against Shishio, he was still wavering between his Himura state and his Battôsai state.

IMO, I still think Shishio was Kenshin's strongest opponent.

Now, if we count all characters, allied and enemies, Seijuro Hiko is easily the strongest of them all. That guy is just a monster, seriously.

I think Shishio was all bark and no bite. The opponents he so easily defeated were all injured and exhausted from previous battles, so that's no measure. I say Enishi is the strongest because he fought a healthy Kenshin at the dojo and beat him.

I'd say Seta Sojiro- but that's probably because I like him so much :p He's faster than Kenshin and Kenshin barely beat him. It was only because he was able to make him "crack" and Kenshin was then able to see past his facade. But before that, he was stronger than his own master, Shishio, in a way because of his Shukuchi style, his inability to show emotion (and thus have others unable to "read" him) and because he could fight longer than 15 minutes.

Shishio is probably the strongest in my unbiased opinion. Also, Hajime Saito comes in close- Kenshin was never once able to defeat him.

Aoshi, I consider to be at or below Kenshin in strength.

Shogo Amakusa. At some point he had beaten kenshin and even made him blind.

Enishi. That's why he was the end boss, people.

QFT.

Enishi and Shishio hands down.

Even though I like Soujiro, Shishio could and did dominate him. After all, would you try to attack/kill the man who saved your life?

Basing on the manga, Enishi would have beaten Kenshin. And he did actually. C'mon he beat Kenshin's Amakakeru Ryu no Hirameki easy. I actually wanted Enishi to win D:

Shishio... well seeing as he's Kenshin's successor he's definitely up to it. Although you could argue that it was an unfair right seeing as Kenshin had already been wounded from Aoshi and Soujiro at the time.

Edit:

I don't include Aoshi seeing as in the end, he can't count as a villain in any way. And I'm bias and totally ignoring the filler arcs (Amakusa).

Hmm, if it has to be a villain character, I'd have to say Shishio. And to some people who think this, no he can't control heat. He can't sweat, thus he bursts into flames. He can't control those flames.

And the reason I choose Shishio:
Shishio is the only one to make Kenshin pass out in battle, if I'm correct. That was kind of awkward how Kenshin started to fight even though he was still passed out, though.

Now, if it's just villain, including sickness [going into Samurai X]...
I'd have to say his flesh eating disease. He died ....:( That was so depressing. The final scene with Sanosuke and Kenshin, and then with Kenshin and Kaoru.

If Kenshin had more energy, and had not fought so many battles before the final fight, then I don't think he would've passed out like he did. Shishio might have purposely did that because he knew what would happen if Kenshin made the fight last too long. To make it simple: He wanted to get rid of the guy quick and easy.:closedeye

figuratively -- himself
literally -- I'd go for Shishio.

Reason:

Seta is a very promising fighter. During their fight, he could've defeated Kenshin had he been in a more stable state of mind. However, take away his pain and his past and he won't probably hurt a fly.

Saitou is pretty strong, an all-around fighter, not to mention pretty cunning and ruthless. However, Shishio possess the same characteristics with a superior physical prowess to match.

Aoshi - I don't have anything against Aoishi, but for me he's the least strongest among the villains/anti-heroes in the series. I don't think he stands a chance against Shishio.

Enishi- Physically, he's in top shape. He can be cunning and ruthless if he have to, but his driving force is a thirst for revenge -- which in almost all cases, tends to cloud sound judgment. Besides, take away his desire for revenge, like Soujiro, he'd probably be living an peaceful life somewhere.

Shougo Amakusa- I think, given an evil mind, he could be Kenshin's toughest opponent. He have mastered the hiten mitsurugi -- i think it even surpassed Kenshin's skills -- however, he fights for his beliefs and personal goals. Once he achieved those, again, there'll be no reason to hold a sword.

Shishio- He is physically superior to half of the other villains.
he has the insights brought about by experience that the younger villains don't have.
He is cunning and a great tactician.
He has a strange charisma that can attract fanatical followers who'd eagerly sacrifice their lives for him.
He knows how to and is very much willing to take advantage of this fact. (Aoshi and Shougo aren't likely to do so)
He is ruthless
His driving force is lust for power which unlike revenge is harder to sate.

(sorry long answer, i like the diversity (?) of the villains in RK) ^^

I think Soujiro would whoop on Shishio if he didn't know him. This fool Kenshin was in shock when he fought Soujiro. He even got behind him like it was nothing he was pretty much dominating Kenshin before his strap broke. Shishio had Kenshin right after that fight and it was pretty even until he got blasted with a gun powder glove. So I would definately say Soujiro is stronger then anyone in the series he even would have tore up the Christian guy.

Don't forget LeeTheG that Shishio was the one that taught Soujirou swordsmanship. If Shishio didn't meet him, then Soujirou would still be working for his "adoptive" family or probably sold into slavery.
Shishio knows Soujirou's Shukuchi, and everything behind it. With Shishio training him for a better part of his life, I think he would've found away to kill him off if he ever tried to kill him. :ninja:

Soujiro was certainly one of the most interesting villains in the series - his background was possibly the most tragic, I mean it paralleled Kenshin's, itself not what you'd call cushy, but he got a heartless bastard for a mentor. So he was interesting and moving. Not to mention pretty awesome in a fight...

But I also like saito - he is just too slick when doing what he does best.
