Hey everyone! I will be moving the wallpaper contests here starting this month. To get everything prepared, I would like to open it up for suggestions on what the contests themes should be and how the contests should be run. What do you like? What don't you like?

I like the non-anime idea. Since we are off animewallpapers, we don't have to stick to the anime-only rule.

well lets see.....I agree with Maru's ideas for a Valentines day and a collab contest. Hm.. interesting *gears turning*, how about an AF couples wallpaper (or another banner) contest, others can join too of course, but this would show just how many couples AF has and how many people find love here. Im such a romantic^^;

Okay what else. well the US is getting beaten by all this freezing cold weather, lets turn up the heat and have a summer theme contest in Jan/Feb. Yeah sounds crazy, thats why it sounds like a "cool" idea. lol

Schools here (US) are halfway through the year and are cramming for midterms. There could be a school theme contest to help relieve the tension and have fun. It could cover anything; teachers, lunch, gym class, tests, subjects..........*catches breath* well you get the point.

Speaking of tension, the situation in Iraq isnt changing much. Lets give some props to the troops and have a military themed contest. I know there will be debates, people want them to come home, others want them to fight for our freedom, but the fact is they're there now and lets just show we care for there safety. Hey maybe, just maybe, we have some AF members there now. They'd love this.

Last one (I want others to think of some ideas too XD). Hm....let me think....heres one, stay with me on this. A manga wallpaper contest. Members can scan in manga pages and manga images (not anime graphics) and contruct backgrounds using those. Its a little more of a challenge because most people can easily find mostly anime pics on the web and use those. They could also color the pages in with art programs to bring the scenes to life. Well thats there choice anyways.

Since eastern sytle art gets a LOT of attention here (Understandable from the forum deal being all anime and such), how about about a contest where western style art is used?

And before anyone says it. Cartoon network shows aren't the only american styled artwork =/. I would even gladly upload a .rar with many suitable stock peices of need be.

Annd a few more.

A contest based on a certain videogame series, or genre of gaming. Like a "Final Fantasy wallpaper", "Metroid" or "Resident Evil" kind of thing. Or maybe broaden that and expand it to RPG wallpaper contest, Sci-fi wallpaper contest, or Horror wallpaper contest?

or maybe something like a movie wallpaper contest. Martial arts themed like Kill Bill or Enter the dragon. Something like that (Or animated and virtual martial arts movies and games and such), as Martial arts are an important part of most asian cultures, as well as a popular sport all over the world in many styles. And since many anime titles have a martial arts theme, or martial arts featured in them, it would still somewhat related indirectly to the forum.

This one may be tricky but...
Open a thread with suggestions for themes, write down all of the themes. Then make another thread and have people sign up for the wallpaper contest. From there, assign everyone a random theme from the suggestions given in the previous thread. With everyone working on a diffrent theme, it makes the wallpaper contest more...Unexpected? As no one knows what the other people are working on.
Crazy idea, but I could see it MAYBE working if everyone cooperates.

Then of course we could restrict wallpapers by certain things. "Render Must be of a Male character (Or female, that can be a cointoss). Limited color use...You may not use X color on your wallpaper, or you may not use X color and Y color on the same wallpaper. Wallpaper must by A larger size than 1074x768. Character render must be in the center of the wallpaper, or make a few joke ones...Like the render has to be upside down or something.

OR, maybe a contest where the render must be of an animal, but not a real animal, an animated one.

A Techno contest, where the wallpaper must contain a robot(s), Android(s), or Cyborg(s). Or other technological advancments that are non-existant in our reality, or Technological things so advanced they are not attainable by 95% of the worlds populace.

Shared render contest...ONE render is supplied to the artists, and they must compete to see who can make a better or more character apporopriate wallpaper using the same render as everyone else.

Or perhaps a "Samurai Jack" Contest. Not samurai jack per say, but a contest featuring Feudal/Medevil Characters in a Futuristic setting (Hence the Samurai Jack aspect of the contest)

Or we can do a character battle contest. Where we take to characters from 2 seperate anime/manga/comic books and turn it into a vs. match on your wallpaper. For example, the theme is "Naruto vs Bleach", so wallpapers would be things like Sasuke vs. Ishida, Ichigo vs Naruto, and Sakura vs. Zaraki Kenpachi (Muahahha)

Or, a Fireworks contest. Create a summer/4th of July or fireworks festival themes wallpaper.

Since spring is coming up in a few weeks, i don't know how Sakura bloom in Japan...I'll assume spring...Anyway, Start a contest Where Sakura trees...Flowers...The organic matter whatever, must be featured and a main focus.

Next, A Starfield wallpaper contest. I notice many people have trouble with starfields, at least from what I see in the AWP board (I know, i'm one of those people =P). Soo why not a contest to see who can replicate the most convincing starfield, nebula, or space scene?

Since it was brought up... Although I think that anime wallpapers still have an important place here, I want to deviate from that occassionally and try other things. It keeps things fresh and spicy.

I love the school idea. Here in Japan, classes start in April, so maybe this spring it would be a fun contest.

The military one is a neat idea, but a bit too sensitive of a subject. Just a tad controveral and may end up with hurt feelings.

manga wallpapers rock. we've had them in the past and they looked awesome!

deadpool: you mentioned many ideas that I have done in the past, but I will bring them back again: same scan, limitations, robo theme, etc. I like the starfield idea. In fact, I was thinking of picking a tutorial from our forums(PLUG!) and using it for a contest.

im thinking we could pick contest bases off of music selections(genre, artist, album art), movies(genre, movie, actors/actresses) tv shows(genre, network, cartoon/real life) books, food(yes food), animals(kitty cats, dogs, whatever you want) art(abstract, modern, etc)

oyeah and i like the season and holidy idea, v-day is coming up i made a thread about it in misc, im kinda excited for that

ohhh and i think we should have a misc contests, just random wallpapers to chose from and decide which 1s we like best :D

You should keep all the holiday themed contests you used to run before. A lot of interesting ideas were mentioned by others so I don't have anything else to add, just don't go overboard with the restrictions (though the scenic element (starfield) contest sounds fun, you could make a series of them, with accompanying tutorials (or links to them)).

Ummm how about a scene contest. What I mean by that is you take some random character pics you found on the net and edit them into a scene.

EXAMPLE: abunch of school girl pics next to each other kinda like they were taking a class photo. Of course BG must be custom made.

It would add a twist and difficulty seeing as character sizes and closeness would have to be taken into account even more than usual. Just an idea.

maby something that has to do with a job? like a teacher or a garderner. or maybe anthro people like foxes or raccoons or something. not cats though neko's are rather easy to find but anthro that are not very common. i do like the admin points a theme to a person thing though.

Hey How About a Microsoft Word Only. I Know its for typing but some people are amased at what i can do with word. (I Only Have Four Image Programs-Paint,Windows Image Editor,Kodak Easyshare,and Mircosoft Word.) I Can Make Colored Overlays with Word or Recolor a pciture with windows image editor then i just save it to paint. (It's Verrrry Easy!) :-)

Find a anime picture that mostly resembles you, merge an animal anime picture with it, and add in a slight phrase.

This is kinda lame and I apologize if it has already been suggested but how about a comedy wall contest? That could be a real challenge coming up with something that's funny but still looks good.

Uhmm.. If they use blue, they could only use light blue, dark blue, sky blue and more. But it only associate with the color blue but with just making it lighter and darker for the shading or the main line.

Maybe we could do a contest which requires a specific effect(preferably created by that person). Like maybe a smoke/fire wall contest where the member must include smoke or fire in an attractive way with an anime character. Or maybe stars, clouds, hearts, etc.

Or maybe a Contest that requires a simplistic design such as allowing only the use of basic geometric shapes with the exception of the focal point (like an anime character).

Another idea; Make them use a specific piece of text, like a quote from classic literature or from a specific anime character and tell them to do with it what they will. They don't have to necessarily include anything from that anime/literature; they just have to include the quote.
