Series? Sequence?

G'day there, I am very new to the whole Gundam thing, but would like to be able to sit back and start from scratch. But I am not sure if it sarts back at some originial Mobile Suit Gundum thing, and it is all a continuing series or not. I fi were to start by watching Gundam Seed for instance... Am i missing information that will help me in understanding the series? Or is each series essentially it's own, and anyone can sit down and watch it and understand it?!

This may be a bad question, but i just have to step up and ask the question, otherwise i'll never know!

Each series outside of the Universal Century time line is essentially its own. If you were to just watch SEED from the beginning, you should be able to understand the plot and follow everything.

Each series is different except for the timeline of Amuro and Char. The rest are all independent except also for the gundam seed series.
