Not really useful but, hey. This is only my second tutorial, ever.

Sweet! I tried something similar, from the top of my head. A few hours after reading your tut. Bad memory+I never follow the tuts fully= this!

Awesome tut, this helped me out alot for I'm not the best at sig making, but I think I really improved from it. I followed step by step, but changed it up a bit. Heres what I got. I use Serif PhotoPlus, not as good, but it works.

Both outcomes are awesome. =)
The Samurai Shamploo one could use a bit sharpening on the stock [the image, render, whatever you call it]
But, yeah. Thank you for trying out. <3

these all look fantastic!! Thanks for posting the tutorial. :)

edit: yay for slow moving threads! I'm at home roasting a turkey right now so I had a bit of time to play around with this. I'm not very happy about how my grass turned out , but overall I think it is spiffy. Fun tutorial and very easy to follow. I'll play around with the grass sometime when I'm free. I just wanted to try out the tut.

That's pretty sweet. ^^

By the way, what graphics program do you recommend for this sort of work?
I've been making sigs with Macromedia Fireworks at my school.
I was thinking of buying a program for my own home usage, so that's why I'm asking.

Photoshop is a good program ^_^ but you may find it a bit too expensive to buy.

There are many MANY programs out there, some of which are more expensive than others. For a cheap alternative, some people use Gimp. If you do want to buy a program, I recommend doing a demo first. Most of the companies will have a demo avaliable on their website.

Tutorials, Yay! I don't care what anyone says, no tutorial is small or useless. I am just starting to learn Photoshop 7, (won't mention how I got it though) and tutorials are a great help in actually learning what something does. Plus, it helps to learn how various effects and commands produce different effects. I am so copying this tutorail to my comp for later use. Thanks for the lesson.

That's awesome. I can't draw to save my life and I feel like even I could make something nice after reading this. If I didn't have to go soon, I would! A+ would read again and so on. :p
