The previous one, had so many opinions and debates, I found it intriguing! Perhaps this one can get there as well. Although it was closed due to length. The purpose of this topic, is to express your opinion on the subject, and why you feel that way. It can be from a range of animes and even as far as manga.

But I just want outviews, and I want to see what Animeforum, really enjoys when it comes to these two "other" sections of the anime world!

Well personally I don't like yaoi or henatai! In my religion (being christian) it is a sin to look at a man or woman with lust in your heart, real or not!

Yaoi and Yuri, it's not my particular thing but i don't get grossed out when i see it. Some of the couples are pretty cute and the anime or mangas aren't bad but i don't see yaoi or yuri as a bad thing.

I enjoy both, rarely sexually though. Fact is most hentai in genral, with a few exceptions, is so horribly done that it's only real use is to be laughed at. Then again you will occasionally come across the good one that'll do what it was made for but it's best not to get your hopes up. The genders involved are pretty irrelevant to me either way.

Don't have anything against it ... I've watched quite some of shounen ai [yaoi] (like Loveless, Yami no Matsuei) or shoujo ai [yuri] (Strawberry Panic, Yami to Boushi to Hon no Tabibito) animes.

Oh, lets clear something ... Yuri/yaoi doesn't mean that it's H-rated ;) Even tho most people think it is.

I don't have anything against Yaoi or Yuri anime/manga. I have several yaoi manga and enjoy reading them. As far as watching yaoi/yuri anime, I've seen Gravitation, Lovelsss. Not so much Yuri though.

Why is it that the words Yuri and Yaoi are mentioned and the first reply mentions hentai? Ok so a good proportion of Yuri and Yaoi do use some ecchi themes, but it isnt full blown hentai.

Anyway back on topic. Personally I dont care about either, I dont focus primarily on these styles, but I wouldnt NOT watch them just there are gay and lesbian themes. I watch and read some genderbending anime and manga, most having yuri undertones, but it isnt the sole reason I read them, nor is it the reason I like em.

Not seen much Yaoi (only remotely Yaoi scene I have seen is the bit in NGE where Kaworu says he loves Shinji) and only seen one Yuri series.(KashiMashi ~Girl Meets Girl~)

Yaoi was used specifically to describe sexually explicit material as opposed to shounen-ai, so I can see why people think of it as hentai because.. well, it was porn, once. Although it's now used in much more general terms and when someone asks what you think of yaoi, they're usually including any anime/manga with gay themes.

I don't really have much of a view on yaoi or yuri, and I'm not very fussy when it comes to how many X chromosomes are featured in my anime. I like anime/manga based on other things, like whether it's entertaining, has a good storyline, interesting characters, etc. The gender doesn't really come into it, and since there's not much difference in quality between yaoi/yuri/het, I don't have a preference either way. I'm not a big fan of seme/uke dynamics though, so I tend to dislike yaoi that lays it on so heavily they only need to add a reference to "heaving bosoms" to turn it into a Mills & Boon novel.

I tolerate the both. Yaoi, meh, I'm obviously not interested and don't persue it but i've been numbed to most digusting things from 4chan and 7chan so I wouldn't like...flip out.

Yuri. Relevant to my interests, but not so that I go hunting for it.

I do not enjoy, both Yaoi and Yuri, I merely find the arts interesting, and quite out going.. It shows that loving a man or a woman, if you're the same gender as them.. isn't totally a bad thing.. nor is it wrong, or disgusting..

I perfer yuri even though it is strange because I am a girl, I perfer anime girls to guys because I like the big varitey of them. Personally yaoi kind of annoys me ande the fangirld omg. but shows like loveless or kyo kara maoh are ok

Higurashi Kagome

I can tolerate both yoai yuri shounen and shoujo ai...but usually *ONLY* if they are supposed to be that way-i.e. Michiru and Haruka from Sailor Moon or Shuichi and Yuki from Gravataition.

The AU yoai/yuri couples that people make up just totally disgust me. If I ever put a pair like that together it's just because I think it's funny and amusing. i.e. Kikyou and Kagome, I don't take it seriously-don't draw it, read it, write it etc.

Hentai...::snerks:: Hell-that stuff *IS* funny. It's pure comedy. Especially when you go to conventions and watch it. The fan-based commentaries you get from the viewers is really hysterical.

I can pretty much stand both Yuri/Yaoi. Being the immature idiot that I am (and thanks to thorn and chibi) I am even less a fan of the Yaoi O_o At least when it's of a series that I myself really enjoy. It just makes it strange to watch and read afterwards.

I don't go searching for the stuff, but most of my anime lovin' friends can't get enough of it, so it's fine in my book. I rarely see it anyways.

Yuri: I occasionally watch Yuri, but I usually stick with Shoujo-Ai since it contains a nice romanticism to it, less sappy than Shounen-Ai. Some Yuri is good, but often difficult to find, as most of what is out there for the public is smut. I've only found a few short series that have had a well strung together plot which wasn't entirely focused on the Yuri aspect of it.
Yaoi: I've seen only a few yaoi manga, but I really have no interest in it, and when I see it, it is only the result of being annoyed by a friend too much to the point at which I do see it. I find the plots often too be sappy, Not a genre I particularly care about, but I don't mind it. I am more or less apathetic towards it. I have read a fair amount of Shounen-Ai, which I usually read because they do tend to be fvery funny manga, such as Eerie Queerie which was truly halarious.

Though, the smut that enters into both catagories, as Higurashi Kagome said, is just humorous. Just so endlessly stupid.

Yaoi/shounen-ai - i do admit i've watched/read many series both yaoi and shounen-ai. one of my best friends got me into it and i've been reading/watching ever since. I'm one of those people who love those sappy romance series and alot of the series have that...plus alot of them are soo funny...

yuri/shoujo-ai - i've haven't read/seen any hardcore yuri series but i do like and have seen/read alot of shoujo-ai series...one of my favorite mangas was a shoujo ai series...didn't realize it until they pointed out the secret but still loved it...another series i liked was revolutionary girl utena...

so as for the yaoi/yuri thing i really don't care. as long as i enjoy the storyline i really don't care if the coupling is m/m or f/f or m/f...

Uhhh Noooo....Shoujo-ai is not Yuri and Shounen-ai is Not Yaoi. Yuri and Yoai are the hard core stuff...Like serious girl/girl and guy/guy. Shounen and Shoujo-ai are the soft stuff. The romances and that's as far as it goes. Get it right man.

Phlegm. I don't go looking for Shounen-Ai or Shoujo-Ai, as they're usually cookie-cutter plots that get old after the first... say... 30?

Sometimes, I'll get hooked on a good Shoujo-Ai series(usually a webcomic, and not often), but my Comics folder in my faves is still filled with traditional-pairing comics.

Fan commentaries on hentai are hilarious. I curse my parent's previous plans from barring me from going to Oni-con(which had a hentai-fest). Adolfo would have provided the commentary, Jeff the awkward hilariousness.

Xero, the best thing I can tell is wait tell Seven Sea's "STRAWBERRY (http://www.gomanga.com/news/press_027.php)" mangas come out or browse webcomic.

Well, yaoi and yuri...

I don't really see anything wrong with them, though I don't really like them.

Though I actually enjoyed the shounen-ai manga, Gravitation. It had a good story.

People really have to be more open-minded about homosexuality. In our modern world its not really rare to see male-male or female-female couples.

It may be against religion and all, but its legal. And besides, if a guy wants to get it on with another guy, what can you do? it's his life anyway.

The purpose of this topic, is to express your opinion on the subject, and why you feel that way. It can be from a range of animes and even as far as manga.

I prefer not to watch anime that is categorized as yaoi or yuri. If, however, I happen to watch an anime that does have said elements and deliver it in a tasteful (read: not hentai/no kissing and such) manner, it's fine by me. I have seen episodes of Kyou Kara Mao and Fushigi Yuugi has Nuriko, and I have lived through them. I actually liked Kyou Kara... and I find it funny ^^

I feel this way about yaoi/yuri because I do not like homosexuality, w/c is based on my preference, not religion or culture. However, that does not mean I hate on homosexual people. I have two bestfriends who are gay guys; I interact with people based on their minds and attitudes, not their religious/sexual/political orientation. I received bad rep due to this opinion in the past, and I must say I over-reacted to it (being new and all, thus I apologize). I believe, however, that many of you viewing this are mature people who will respect others opinions for what they are. Opinions.

First, i'm a lesbian. i do like yuri, and i also am rather fond of yaoi (which is a source of much amusement...). There's a theory that straight girls like yaoi (and slash) for much the same reason that straight boys like lesbian porn -- they'd rather not deal with their own sex. If that's true, it isn't for me.

When i write, i tend to write yaoi. i will say though that i loathe slash and femslash. There is a difference, and when people market their work as one when it's the other it hurts. Yaoi and yuri are just so much prettier. i think that's the main appeal. i know i tend to like shoujo anime and manga much more, they're prettier. And the yaoi and yuri pairings that i like do tend to be in shoujo works.

I've read a couple posts now that say that girls usually like yaoi (and or shounen ai) better than yuri (and or shojou ai) and guys tend to like yuri (" ") better than yoai (" "). I guess that means I'm a bit backwards. I'm straight-and I can tolerate both yoai (" ") and yuri (" ")...but I think yuri (" ") is kind of better then yaoi (" ")... ::shrugs::

Well, I love yaoi, but not yuri. But that's probably because I'm a girl. I think yaoi is just beautiful, and enjoy watching it very much. the whole "yaoi/yuri is agaisnt my religon" is retared in my opinion. if god said he made up in his image and all that blah blah blah is stupid to me. if u want to quote the bible go right ahead but just remember "he who cast the first stone"

I really did grow up on Sailor Moon, and Haruka and Michiru's relationship touched me.

I think it just gave my shrivelling heart a little bit of hope.

It did kind of inspire me to see the "extra" beauty in the girl I dated when I was 13. We actually had that sort of relationship, but then, as things usually go, she "grew up," and I did not.

However, I digress. I have a soft spot in my heart for things like that.

many people view yuri/yaoi as hentai because the two have sexual contents in them. except in these cases the sexual contents involves fxf or mxm. you wouldn't consider "yaoi" series like gravitation and kyou kara maou hentai because technically they're not really yaoi...they're more like shounen ai...and i won't really classify kyou kara maou as shounen ai much cuz there's not really much bl just a lot of fans who like certain canon pairings...

I find it interesting how people can categorically like or dislike something based on label alone.. At the same time.. I also find it interesting that i'm shallow enough to admit this pertains to me as well. I don't like yaoi. Well, let me say I don't like it as a main focus of a story, mainly because that generally means gay man porn. shonen ai I can live with, as a romantic sub-plot if it is in the cannon of the story. i.e. kunzite/malachite and zoicite.

Sailormoon kind of opened a lot of doors for me in this regard, since it had shonen ai, shojo ai, and whatever transexual is in japanese, cultures. Some folks might wanna flame me for pointing out that the starlights are tehcnically transexual.. but eh, they fit the direct definition "one sex, that becomes another"

Yuri on the other hand is teh hawtness, mainly because I am a pulsing ball of hormones and I ferverently hope at any given time that when two random nummy female types want to get the game of love goin they might very well invite me along to play refferee...

I find shounen (that's the stuff that isn't as explicit right? ) very romantic, and anything romantic makes me happy, unless it's a cliffhanger, in which case, i throw things often.

It really doesn't matter to me...
I don't go looking for shounen-ai/shoujo-ai solely, but I'm not "OMG IT'S YAOI GROSS". With shounen/shoujo ai I figure, it's love, who am I to judge whether it's right or wrong.

Shounen-Ai: Loveless I love because of the art and story(But honestly, I think Soubi's a jerk sometimes.), and Earthian I loved because of the story. I didn't like Until the Full Moon very much though, because I had no idea what was going on half the time. (I love how Hikaru and Kaoru play the shounen-ai thing for laughs in Ouran High School Host Club)

Shoujo-Ai: I've only read Kashimashi ~Girl Meets Girl~ in this catagory, but I like that one a lot.
