cut an image

can someone please help me with this? how do i extract a character from another image? without using extract and then afterwards spending hours on erasing the bad parts.. eg: i've got a wallpaper of rurouni kenshin with kaoru as the center character. but because of the surrounding pics of her and kenshin, i can't extract her properly.. hope y'all know what i mean?

You Can Do what the tutorial said or use the Polygonal Lasso tool, But I prefer to use Pen Tool it's Easier. :D

loool i used to use the eraser tool....but now i use pen tools and i hate it when they got lots of hair that means lots of zoom in and out
