i amde this picture when i was still pretty noob at Gimp/Fireworks and i was just wondering... what can i do to improve?
(im remaking it)

For the first: I don't like the font; it's too neat and crisp. Try something more visually interesting. (Though the shadow is kind of neat.) And what's with the miniature guy in the lower-right corner, doing the crane kick with the glow around him? Remove him, leave the larger "thumbs-up" guy, and I think you'd have a stronger wallpaper.

For the second: The colored "pipe" lines are too regular, and the composition isn't very interesting. Maybe move all three images further to one side of the wallpaper, and do something more analog-ish with the lines. The blurred text under the name is good.
