Ok, I've decided to post this thread because it seems that although alot of people on here claim to like Sailormoon, there seems to be a lot of bashing of the series as well. Please don't get me wrong, everyone has a right to their own opinion (and I respect the intelligent ones, mind you... xD) and I totally agree, but is it just me, or does the endless threads of SM bashing get depressing? The same goes for Wedding Peach. Why do so many people have to bash it to death? I don't know about anyone else, but SM happens to be my favorite series, since it was my first anime, and it means a great deal to me for other reasons. Is there anyone out there that is actually a fan of SM and has been for a long time? I'd be interested in seeing some responses on this one. I'm just curious, that's all. It would be nice to see a thread post once in a while where people don't contiuously say over and over again that SM sucks, and that there are actually (dare I say?) fans of the series? Sorry if my thread sounds retarded. I'm not the world's best writer. Get over it. : P

Well, to be fair, there are threads for both people who like and dislike Sailor Moon. I allow it to keep the peace, and try to regulate people into posting in the appropriate threads ;p
That said, I AM a fan. While I wouldn't call Sailor Moon my favorite anime, it was one of the first I was hooked on. When I first watched it (6-7th grade-ish?) I didn't know it WAS an anime. Once I realized it was (after watching movies like Akira, Venus Wars, etc. that I knew as anime), I was completely intrigued by the anime world.
There's something about Sailor Moon that consistently draws me back. It doesn't have the best plot out there (lord knows there are enough gaping plot holes), or animation (though perfectly fine by that period's standards), or even characters. However, there's something for everyone. Especially in the characters. If you don't hate Sailor Moon on other principles, you're bound to find a character who catches your eye. Not only do they make for fun in writing, but all those plot holes mean you'll never run out of things to write about.
What more could an anime fan/writer ask for?

I remember it first aired when I was about 8, and I was hooked on it ever since. I immedialty noticed that it had a very unique style to it....when lead me to notice anime in other places (mainly Project A-ko, which my mother hated me watching because of the naked B-ko scene). And I agree with Reiako, it doesnt have the best story line or animation (until the series develops, then the artwork is a bit more appelaing) but there's just something about it that pulls you in. I would say that SM in one of my top five favorites, and I know I'm still going to watch it when I'm old and wrinkly (and I'm sure my grandchildren will think I'm insane...or senile....well, same thing)
* I have the first four SM box sets...I think its safe to say I'm a big fan

I love sailor moon also. I was hooked at 5, when it aried on my T.V. I have most of the DVD's, but not quite all of them... my fav. charector is Lita! I wan't to be just like her... <.<... mostly. I could deal without the "He look's like my old boyfreind" thing... but other than that, she's awsome!

Haha. I was so frustrated over not even being able to see all of dubbed season two (remember when it kept stopping in the Four Sisters arc?) that I sought out the online options. Thus I purchased the movies, and seasons 3, 4, and 5 long before any of them were dubbed. I thank my lucky stars that I did, too. The original is fantastic. The dub...eh, not so much. It's okay, I think, until you SEE the original (for a good example, compare the ending of season one in the dubbed and original forms). Then there's no going back.
I began as an avid Mars fan, and ended as an obsessive Uranus fan and avid Mars fan.

Well, season 1 seemed so long to me(but tht was just my impression), i've been going mad all over Sailor Moon. I've missed some episodes at the beggining of season 2, so i didin't get what was the deal with that mad Smiley Doctor dude, but that's when i practically fell in love with Sailor Mercury.
Actually, *puts hand behind head and smiles* i don't even remember Sailor Moon's real name. I was 6 when it first got on, and the dubbing was so bad i could hear them speak in japanese.

I haven't been able to see anything past the dream mirror episodes T_T seeing as I'm short on cash, and nothing else has come on TV, I'm reduced to guessing how the rest goes.

Hi there. Well I love Sailor Moon to the letter. It was the first anime I ever got into and I've seen all the episodes or at least until they took it off the air here. I know a lot about each character so even though i like a lot of other anime i will never forget Sailor Moon I've even wrote stories about them but to be frank I don't think they are that great but other people like them. I never bash anime cause well I am not that kind of person and i kind of agree with you it can be kind of depressing.

i really loved sailor moon. although its not the best around, i will hold a spot for it in my heart since it really brings back so many of my childhood memories. to me sailoor moon is more than just an anime i spent hours watching. it is a reminder of a time when my sisters and i really had a childhood. with all the issues and hard times my family went through, sailor moon will always bring back memories of the times before my childhood was over.
I agree, but they could make a new Sailor Moon series that looks a little newer,so they can continue the Sailor Moon storyline.
the entire sailor moon story has been animated. maybe if they re-dub the episodes after the the black moon arc then it will be a lot better to watch.

I personally love Sailor Moon...and have ever since I first saw it! It was my first anime so of course it is one of my favorites. Yes, there may be a lot of people who may not like it...but that doesn't change the fact that it is one of the most popular anime/manga series of all time.

Hell, I downloaded SMR not too long ago and I'm still watching it. I think I spent half a Saturday night just sitting here and watching it (not much else to do here except go and drink my face off...forget that).
Also have a tape of the Nephrite episodes that I watch sometimes.
There's something about the show.. interesting villains, the nature of good and evil, etc, that I like about it.

Sailor Moon is kind of a weird deal for me. It seems like a show that I should despise. Corny romance from a female point of view, damn-near-retarded villains, not-exactly-smart heroes (except Neptune, of course... and don't say Mercury, she's dumber than the rest of them as far as combat is concered), and lots of girly men.
Yet despite that, it might be in my top 10 favorite anime. Its probably the characters... the only ones that I really don't like are Chibiusa, Mamoru, and at times, Ami and the Sailor Starlights. I really like the rest of the good guys, especially Minako, Rei, Hotaru, and Michiru.

Since Sailor Moon came out in America in 1992 when I was just a little baby so I don't know when I started watching it. I know I had to have watched it when I was really little though because my mom has a pic of me when I was about 2, watching Sailor Moon. I loved Sailor Moon for as long as I can remember. But there was about 2 or 3 year period in my life where I didn't watch Sailor Moon at all or any other Anime for that matter. About a two years ago I redeveloped a major interest in Anime and manga. Sailor Moon was ironicly the manga that got me reinterested in Anime and Manga. The first Anime I rented from my library was also Sailor Moon and Sailor Moon was also the first anime I watched online. Currently I've seen the first couple seasons several times and I'm now watching Sailor Stars. I've also seen the entire series of Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon. I found the storyline to be way off, but it was still interesting to see my favorite anime live. I was disappointed that they didn't continue it though. I was also very disappointed my fav chara, Sailor Uranus/Tenou Haruka, wasn't in the series. I'm still hoping they continue it, because it was such a big hit.

I haven't watched the Pretty Guardian series much, but I believe it more closely follows the manga than the animated series ever did. So it's not "way off" in that sense. The manga came first.

Yeah it does a little, but once you get farther along in the series the storyline veers off from the both manga and anime storylines quite a bit. There's an awful lot of stuff that happens in PGSM that never happens in either the manga or the anime.

Sailor Chibi Moon, I know exactly how you feel.
There are a lot of people who only were able to see the dub on TV. Of course, there's the argument that the show is only for kids.
That's not true, since the Japanese version is so much more mature.
I know, since I have been a Sailor Moon fan (and still am) for about 11 or so years. Lucky me, I got to watch the German dub of Sailor Moon which was almost faithfully translated and no cuts whatsoever (I think).
Then there are these self-proclaimed Sailor Moon fans who do nothing else than bash, bash, bash. I know there are a lot of things in Sailor Moon which could have been better, especially in the anime.
I know a lot of people who tell me the anime was overrated and there wasn't any character development. I don't think so.
Well, now that the anime isn't aired anymore, there's the almost new Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon live action series to bash. Nothing against people's own opinions (I thought PGSM was weird too, at the beginning), but it's funny when people say they are the greatest Sailor Moon fans and can't like a show like PGSM because it didn't turn out how they wanted it to be. You could think one should be _happy_ that there's a show like this in the first place.
Oh my, a long rant from me. ^^°
One more thing: If anyone should be offended by this, then I'm sorry, I didn't mean to.

Oh, I love Sailor Moon, in all its forms (yes, even DiC). Sure, the dub wasn't the best (ok, it was kind of horrible...) but its still Sailor Moon. I'm devoted to Sailor Moon with my life. I love it! I have for several years. I know its not the best anime out there, but Sailor Moon will also have a special place in my heart. There's just something about it...

I'm a true Sailor Moon fan. I've seen all 200 eps (subbed) and I've downloaded PGSM (haven't watched it yet though... looks a little cheesy but I've heard it gets good). I also have the manga, though I haven't really read it yet.
Anyway, I think what I like most about it is the characters. I love how Usagi develops in the 200 episodes from a crybaby to a soldier. I also like how the bad guys aren't really all that bad (most of the time). The only think I really don't like is Tuxedo Kamen, but I can live with him (I still say Usagi should have got with Seiya though).

A lot of people don't like BSSM because they don't take the time to look into it at all. Really, what most of them have seen are a few episodes (if that) of the dubbed version that was played on channels like WB and whatnot. But if you took the time to look into it, the characters/story develop a lot more over time. More characters are added, obviously, and the main ones get thicker backgrounds and it becomes not all about saving the world each episode. I really like the story line and how everything progresses, especially in the Stars series. After fourteen years, it's still got to be my favourite.
This is such a great anime and I hope many will are happy to say that this was
their first anime.I wouldn't have reaaly probably liked anime unless I came
across this by chance.I'm glad I did and Go outer scouts!

I think Sailor Moon is one of the big shows that got most girls(and some guys) into anime. Like so many of you, Sailor Moon was my first anime as well. I love it, and I still watch it when I'm feeling down, it always makes me laugh.
I had a different start to the anime, I saw the sub version before I ever saw the dub version. I think the dub is why so many people dislike it, besides that the show is a bit childish(part of it's charm if you ask me) and since so many people want to seem grown up they'll say they hate the show. I know many closest Sailor Moon fans, to afraid to be considered "kiddy" by their friends.

Sailor Moon is my all time favorite anime! I've watched it since I was 6(me now being almost 19). I was in 2nd grade when I first saw it. I've always loved it. Back then I had no idea it was an anime. I didn't even know there was such a thing called anime. I wouldn't see my next anime until I saw Pokemon on Fox Kids when I was 11. It wasn't until I was 13 that I knew what anime was. That was back in 2001.
I've watched over 60 animes and still Sailor Moon is my favorite. After that would be Inuyasha.
I love the story, the animation, the characters. Everything appeals to me. I own all the dubbed episodes and I have the last season on CD-R. I own one movie (unfortunately, I want all of them). And a few other trinkets. I wish I had realized my fangirliness long ago so I could have collected the merchandise sooner, though.
I understand why people don't like as well, though. I mean it really is meant for girls and even then a certain group. I've never seen anyone bash it. Just a few, "I don't like it," sentences.
I may not be the #1 fan and know all there is to know about the characters but I'm a pretty big one. I'll never grow out of it. My boyfriend doesn't understand what I see in it but the thing is, is that Sailor Moon made me the romantic I am. I love the love story between Darien and Serena (or Mamoru and Usagi for those who can't stand the dubbed version). I persoanlly LOVE the dubbed dic version. I've never seen the original. I would like to, though. I really only watch the first two seasons because I can't stand the voice for Serena in S and Super S (why they would cast an old lady for a teenage girl is beyond me). Not to mention that I really dislike Michiru and Haruka.
So yeah, I'm a HUGE fan and have been for 13 years now. I am still continuing my Sailor Moon education by trying to get my hands on the manga. I heard there was a reprint in Japan so I'm hoping they will bring the reprints out in America, too.

You should definitely definitely definitely see the original. I enjoyed it after watching the dub, but LOVED it after watching the original. And, frankly, I would have hated Amara and Michelle too if all I'd seen of them was the dub... *shudder* Michiru and (especially) Haruka are leaps and bounds better. No weird cousin love.

09-14-2006, 09:01 AM
Well with the act of making them cousins because of the love they show each other they had hoped that the group they were thinking watch the show wouldn't notice. And indeed little kids wouldn't think anything of the extra attention Michiru and Haruka were showing each other. Even by age 7 or so a little kid's world is still pretty much black and white. They're still really family oriented.

Omg....I love sailor moon. I have and will always seem to love it. I have most of the manga and I must say that it is the bestseries so far. It has fights, comedy, death...basically everything I love about an anime. Put SM up to FMA, I would have to choose Sailor moon because FMA is a bit to depressing for me and I am the kind of girl that is always happy and energetic. (use to be a cry baby but not any more ^^) I got started in anime because of sailor moon and pokemon, and I started to draw fro sailor moon. (basically I paused the t.v set and drew as much as I can XD) Anyways I am glad I have seen so many SM fans ^^ It makes Sailor moon and the Senshi so very happy and proud ^^

Yay! An actual thread where there is no bashing against Usagi-chan.
I do consider myself A true fan. I remember watching it when I was about 6 years old. I wasn't hyped up about it then, but I think my sister watched more of it before me. I was usually watching Poke'mon or Cardcaptor Sakura. I really widh I could have gotten into more when I was younger. I really started getting into it when I was in the 4th grade. I bought the dolls, and I got her little scepter! ; D I love that thing. I still play around with it for a little when I want to.
I then started to get the books when I was about 10. I also learned how to draw anime from Naoko Takeuchi's work. Her artwork is so beautiful. =^-^= I love to read the manga and I wish I could find all the volumes...=? I can't find any...none...nowhere...
Now for the anime. I do enjoy watching it, I just like watching the Japanese version to the English dubs. They're are alot of fillers which kind of makes me go like "COME ON COME ON COME ON!! I WANNA KNOW WHO "SO-SO" REALLY IS!!!" (like Naruto...)...I think it should have just been based off the manga (Well, that's just me...*wink*)
Did I mention I sang the Japanese theme song at mini convention I went to? Everyone loved it. It was a moment of 'Nostaligia' for them. And for the fact that I sang it very well (*blush*). Most of them said that Sailor Moon was their first anime (That made me happy. ^^)
SOO...I consider myself I true Moonie. ^.-

It's funny because in the SuperS movie, they weren't "cousins". They were dubbed as-is and they even talked as they were, too. Which is silly, because they made them "cousins" for the series.Thats because Pioneer dubbed the all three movies. Cloverway dubbed S and SuperS, and since there were no lesbian references between Haruka and Michiru in the SuperS movie, there was nothing for Pioneer to worry about concerning them.
And also, Amara and Michelle didnt talk as Haruka and Michiru did. In the Japanese version, when Uranus questions a world where children never grow up, Neptune looks at her and says, "There are so many more fun things to do as adults. They really dont need to do this." At which point, Haruka blushed (I think we all know why). However, in the dub, Neptune says, "I think its a silly idea. Life is full of wonderful experiences from the beginning to the end." An obvious attempt to dodge the original reference.

Sailor Moon is my favorite anime and my first. I got hooked on the dubbed version six and a half years ago. Then I discovered the subbed version five years ago and switched over. I own all five seasons and three movies all in Japanese, or with the option to be in Japanese. I love the Sailor Senshi, except maybe Healer and Maker. But I'm glad it's not on American TV anymore, because then maybe more people will want to see the original.
