I think you need to learn how to attach your wallpaper to the thread so that it is a thumbnail. Please edit your thread. :)
Other than that... It is very pixilated. Also, what are its dimensions? 1024x768?

They're a little pixilated. I don't know Photoshop, but maybe you should try shrinking them a bit (using a smooth scaling method / not a manual stretch) to get rid of those... squary edges.
Anyway... keep up and you'l learn more!

iŽll start with some general issues :
your source images are WAY too pixelated (i suppose you captured them from a video?), i dont think smoothing or rezising will help, so try getting some decent scans instead (scan sources youŽll find afaik in a sticky thread in this section)
in particular:
the first one is "cluttered" with characters and has no theme or focus, also
you should practise extraction some more.
the second one also lacks extraction.
you might wanna use brushes (there a sticky for that too^^)
instead of drawing forms and stuff by yourself
i know you said youŽre still a beginner so dont give up ^^

The background is far too cheerful for the expression on Sakuras face. Find another scan that's more lighthearted and... fun, or make another background with the image you have.
The image. Okay, recolor it entirely, or lose the image. It's far too grainy and pixelated to look good on the background.
Overall you're doing good, just need to tweak what you have. ;)

Well in generall i agrea with Xian Pu and LavaBug.
The best way to make good and simple Wall-papers is to find big pictures you want to use. mostly use pictures from other wall=papers becouse they already are large enough.
further more you need a style, or better said a theme you want your wall-paper to go about. then you can find pictures thats fall into your theme. (hint: Sacura-chann is not a theme. Sacura-chann sad is a theme) and becarefull to put to much pictures in one wall paper. it might look cool but no one would want it on his or her computer becouse it draws to much attention.
but still its better then my first atempts so keep on going and improving i think you have it in you!

I wouldn't reccomend taking an image from a wallpaper directly because the creator of that wall may have done something with the image and therefore you'd be stealing their style. Instead, look around for that image elsewhere. If the creator can find it in a set size, then chances are you can too. 4chan is one of a billion sites that have some nice clean high resolution images. So, yeah, look around before taking an image from a wallpaper.

I'm telling you, you can even use snapshots from the movies. You just gotta know how to retouch them. And yes, the background was too pink and cheerful.

No, that pic needs to be entirely recolored. It's too crappy for anything else except MAYBE an avatar.

It just got crappy because i've imported it on the web. It was originally smoother.

Trust me, it needs to be recolored. Look at what I mean by recolored.
Before and after.

well smoother can help archiving certain effects but it should NEVER be used in attempt to cover up a crappy (pixelated) sourceimage...since a lq source is still a lq source be it smoothed or pixelated...

Like, do u mean re-brushing every part with color? Even huge immages like that? That's whack. How many hours does it take?
LavaBug
03-04-2006, 06:11 PM
(i know i wasn't meant but iŽll answer anyway)takes some hours...but it pays off when done well ^^

I'd take longer. But my eyes could not endure that much. So... i'd take me about a day...

It's a lot simpler than people give it credit for. Retracing is work, yes, but it's not that difficult. Google for tutorials, you'll see how easy it is. And for the record, it doesn't take THAT long. I think Chidori took me some five odd hours to do.
