If you are using PhotoShop for your images you don't need to download other brushes, since you have a lot of them already, unless you want to make some specific effects that require specific brushes ... but for starters you don't really need them.

To use them in PS you can use part of this (http://animegalleries.net/bbs/showthread.php?t=29160) tutorial ... it's not much, but it will give you the basics. It contains even 2 new brushes to download if you want.

I can think of many possibilities by reading your question, so I don't know if I chose the right one.
