I think the animation behind it are admirable, but all that it is good for is inspirering a new wave of nastiness that invades my email constantly do to people that like to dodge reality and think of cartoons as the ideal. There really is no purpose to the show except to feed the fantasies of 30 year old virgins and to entertain little girls. My opinion should be obvious.

I can understand why people would dislike the show, and I certainly don't think it's the greatest thing I've ever seen. Not by a long shot. However, I DO think anime fans in the states have to give it credit as one of the turning points in anime being brought over, dubbed and subtitled. Sailor Moon's undeniable popularity opened doors to introducing the anime that I'm sure some of you know and love right now. Heck, I know that up until Sailor Moon, I wasn't nearly as interested in anime. I had seen other anime (especially from back in the 80's when I didn't know they -were- anime) movies and the like, but somehow Sailor Moon was different.
I mean, if I'm being honest, I find the story and characters of Sailor Moon to be far deeper than, say, the overly popular Inu Yasha. That's just my opinion, though, and it means that I avoid the latter like a plague, and don't hunt for more reasons to dislike it.

personally, i believe there is no show anime show better than SM. and just as reiako said, it was the threshold for anime in the states.i'm not here to say that you shouldn't have your own opinion because thats all well and good. but dont come in here and start posting these threads saying i hate this and that who else wants to come and hate it together. i understand you dont like the show and thats ok, i can see why you might not like it, it is a little stupid sometimes, but do you just not have anything better to do than this? instead of flooding this forum with reasons you hate this show, y dont you go to another area and discuss what you do like. this isn't what this site was meant for, really. dont come here to bash shows you dont like, come here to praise shows you do.

Well I hate Sailormoon, and I love to hate it. I'm not the "if you don't like it don't watch it" type. No, I do like it, but it pisses me too. I mean it's stupid, cheap, yet GOOD!
It's like sadomasochism, it's good that it's bad. It also has the same accronym.
Sailormoon is cool because of the underlying idea from the author, and bad because of how it was diluted into an endless series without more content being added. It sucks for the gaping plotholes, yet they are such nice ground for fanfiction. It sucks for Tuxedo Kamen, yet isn't he so fun to hate?

ok well i guess thats ok, i admit that it is a very repetitive show with not much diversity in the episodes from the angle of fighting. i mean, character development is always happening and not much repeats but when it comes to fighting enemies, its absurdly repetitive and that could've been done better. however, i don't understand what you mean about gaping plotholes, what do you mean by that?

I used to like sailormoon when I was lil. Im okay with it now though. I juss hate it that she has to get married with the tuxedo guy and then have a child and still attend school. That was the dumb part of the anime. the name is weird too. SAILOR, cmon that ain't a name.

Why the Sailors always befriend the enemy's victims right before they're attacked? Why can't the Dark Kingdom find out there's life outside Tokyo? Why won't Mamoru die? These questions must be answered before all!
And also, why won't the enemies attack while the senshi are transforming? And why do the attacks get longer and longer every seasons? And why won't any enemy send many monsters at once to finish them once and for all? Why did Sailormoon's cries cause ultrasonic shock in episode 1 and never again? Why do Sailormoon's weapons look like dildoes? Why won't the villians buy guns? Why Mamoru??????????
Right now I'm writing a fanfic where the senshi are mentally retarded, and the meanest part is that it's not even a funny fanfic. So I'm a Sailormoon fan, but the nasty type of fan. Love SM = hate SM !!!! I wouldn't have bought the tapes if not, what would make it so interresting then?

I used to like it a little, but the repetitiveness of it started to annoy me, as did several other parts of the show (such as the actions that seemed like complete stupidity at times), and now I hate it.

this is my final rant to all htose who've posted here saying they hate this show. I can understand some of the reasons why you may hate this show. the episodes can get incessantly repetitive and the characters can be a little goofy, even stupid at times, Usagi/Sailor Moon especially. however to those of you who are calling this show perverted and the people who created it/watch it perverts, i don't even have a hint of where you're coming from. this show is hardly graphic, certainly less so than many other shows out there today. The most nudity you get from this show is when a character may be taking a bath, which shows nothing more than a bit of cleavage. and even this happens on only the rarest of occasions oh, excuse me, there was one scene where she was nude at the very end of Sailor Stars, my mistake. And contrary to popular belief the transformation scenes never show anything either. and as far as sexuality, there is never more than kissing in this show, which is more than i can say for some shows. like inuyasha for instance, where miroku touches at least one woman's behind nearly every episode. not to say anything against inuyasha because its an awesome show. so love it, hate it, do whatever you want, but dont call the show or me for that matter perverted

I don't hate SailorMoon, But I don't like it either. I mean it was the first Anime I ever watched even though the animation isn't all the great on the TV versions I think the movies aren't all that bad. I do like the storyline behind it.

I dont like Sailormoon alittle since they are so O.A, I like the story but Usagi is O.A over Mamoru. It's like it's always him on her mind when even she is still a student, it's not as if love is the world arounbd you. You still have school and she never thjought of that and I dont like that in a person. School should be prioritized first rather than love. You can love but not so head over heels about it.

Actually Sailor Moon is a fantastic show. If you've ever watched the japanese version its very different from the americanized version. It has a lot of back story and a very complex plot. Especially if you learn about the stories of the different senshi.
My name is from Sailor Moon. I choose Minako because her back story is very complicated and indepth. I also happen to have a tattoo of the Sailor Venus symbol on my lower back to remind me of her characteristics as a character and the stuggle of the character. She can never find true love, she is always dedicated, pretty much by force, to protect those she cares for and alone waits for Kaitou Ace to be reborn so that he can lift the "curse" that he placed on her. There is an entire manga "Code Name: Sailor V" that predates sailor moon also made by Naoko.
You have Haruka and Michiru who are lovers, and yes they're both girls. You have the fact in the very last episode where Mamoru is "killed" very early in the season and even tho Usagi never hears from him she still stays true, even when another interest who is an amazing person, Seiya Kou, professes his love for her, even going so far as to fall on his knees before Usagi in the rain asking her why she isn't in love with him. You have her fighting alone, losing senshi by senshi to Galaxia, feeling that she physically is alone, as all of her friends are dead, learning to persevere just by the knowledge that her friends are there to fight with her in her heart. Also in the manga Sailor Moon never killed Beryl. It was Venus who took the sword and killed her because she was the only person who could accept that the Negaverse has taken away all that is good and was able to stand up and fight while Sailor Moon cried in the corner, and then was able to motivate Sailor Moon to kill Queen Metallia.
All you probably see is the "Americanized" version of Sailor Moon and earlyish episodes, so I'd say you really cannot formulate an opinion of the entire series based on just that. I'd say watch the japanese version and watch the Super S or Sailor Stars series and then tell me if you do/don't like it.

uh no the american production companies changed it to be more inline with "american values" and aim it twords their "target" audience rather than the original intended target audience. Its more american production companies watering it down than the "japanese keeping it for themselves"

Hoj! Ah I said I love to hate Sailormoon, but lets elaborate...
We all know there are cheap things about the show, but wait! What if they were made on purpose??? Lets make up excuses for the bad points, if only to underline them :p
- Why are thansformation and attack scenes so long and only get longer as the seasons go on?
You'll probably say to save on animation cost, indeed, aren't up to a full five minutes cut from the work by those endless pre-made scenes? But no! They are so much needed! Because the senshi need to power up and it NEEDS to be shown so people can understand how difficult it really is to fight monsters! Now another question that raises is why don't the monsters attack while those scenes are playing, well that's because they're only metaphorical and in fact the senshi transform and power up instantaneously so they actually spin and kick and danse at lightspeed and therefore disintegrate and suck the atmosphere into their gravity field and destroy mankind. Or maybe the animation is just cheap.
- Why do Tuxedo Kamen keep saving the day?
It's NOT so the script can be re-used over and over again. The bad guy attacks someone, for some reason the Sailors get in contact with that person in the same time period without any other indication and find out what's going on, the monster reveals itself, the senshi are helpless, Tux comes in and saves the day, and the happy end comes. No, that's not to save that re-usable scenario! That's because... ah whatever I'm tired of writing nonsense. :(

I love the show. I've always admired it and it just brought magic. I suppose timing sets everything. After all, that show was designated for pre-teens and such.
I saw it when I was in middle school, and I was hooked on it ever since. -u___u- Embarassing as it seems, as of now, it makes me look forward to something I've always wanted--true love & a nice steamy romance. I know I can find that in any other anime, but it's like a stepping stone for me. It still makes me wish and dream like a silly little girl for something like that to pop up.
..But anyway, what I'm trying to say is that although age doesn't really set the favoritism of the show, it plays a big role. If a 30 year old were to watch the show, expecting something more hardcore than what was shown, of course it wouldn't be suitable for them. It also depends on the type of genre you like.
Almost every popular show has some repetitive styles in them--ie: Power Rangers were pretty popular and their show was mostly about fighting bad-costumed monsters.
Everyone has their own opinions. I know this may not stick to the topic, but I just find it funny & ironic for a post like this in a Sailor Moon themed forum. Of course it's generally for anime fans..it just makes me wonder how it can hook onto someone who finds the show unbearable.
That's my 2 cents anyway..

As for Serena/Usagi never developing herself into a mature character, I guess it's just one of those things that you either hate her from the beginning to end or you like her. Most characters in any show (thinking American versions right now) because character is one of the important traits of the show that just can't be dynamic. I don't know how to explain it..:S Erk.

Ahh..Sailor Moon. I love it. It was my starting point to anime. Also The reason I started comming to this wonderful site in the first place, I mean This did used to be TUXEDOMASK.com, well it was for me anyway. I really did have a passion for this anime. And I don't get how someone can say they don't like an anime for being ''perverted''. I also don't get how people can say that they now dislike or hate an anime that even got them started and into anime in the first place, I can understand if they got older and outgrew the show, doesn't give them a reason to hate it. I loved the plot and I have seen the better of both Americanized and Japanese versions. Very good show. I could never hate it, even if I ever were to outgrow it.

I really don't hate it, but I'm not as obsessed with it as i used to be. its what got me into drawing anime which brought me to some forums which changed my life quite a bit. as for it being "frickin gay"...someone needs to learn the meaning of gay. :P yeah, usagi can be a bit of a pain with her whining, but I think that the end of the series with sailor saturn (which one was that, I forgot x.x) I thought it was awesome. meh, thats just me.
and I really think no one "hates" anything, since hate is a strong word.

And BTW, I know there are a good number of people out there who still love the sailor Moon series. Unfortunately, our forums are down right now. But after reading through this thread, I'm not sure this is the sort of place for me.

I look at it this way. Sailor Moon is a popular, well-known anime. This means there aren't many anime fans who don't know of it. However, not all of those fans like it. With all the intense love for the show, I didn't see it wrong to allow the other half to voice their opinions and not spam up the "love" threads. I keep fights from happening is each, and everyone is happy.

What I hated most about Sailor Moon was when ever she would beat a foe or something Tuxedo Man (or whoever he was) would get so close to kissing her then he would run away. It always bothered me! So I just stopped watching it. ^^

Why can't the Dark Kingdom find out there's life outside Tokyo? Because this is a JAPANESE cartoon, and the setting is tokyo. Just like in a american cartoon, the setting would be in america, and they usually wouldn't venture out to tokyo.
Why won't Mamoru die? These questions must be answered before all! If you're watching the anime, mamoru dies/gets killed in almost every season.
And also, why won't the enemies attack while the senshi are transforming? Because the transformations are shorter in length then what we are seeing. The enemies don't have time to attack.
And why do the attacks get longer and longer every seasons? Because they get newer and newer attacks almost every season.
And why won't any enemy send many monsters at once to finish them once and for all? they keep trying to, the senshi keeps finding ways to dispel them, plus they also get new weapons and powers to fight more powerful enemies.
Why did Sailormoon's cries cause ultrasonic shock in episode 1 and never again? well, usagi cries alot .. and really loudly, I guess it would cause pain to anyone who heard it .. and because she didn't need it ever again. She had got more powerful weapons and attacks.

I detest Sailor Moon. Because the senshi need to power up and it NEEDS to be shown so people can understand how difficult it really is to fight monsters! Now another question that raises is why don't the monsters attack while those scenes are playing, well that's because they're only metaphorical and in fact the senshi transform and power up instantaneously so they actually spin and kick and danse at lightspeed and therefore disintegrate and suck the atmosphere into their gravity field and destroy mankind. It's NOT so the script can be re-used over and over again. The bad guy attacks someone, for some reason the Sailors get in contact with that person in the same time period without any other indication and find out what's going on, the monster reveals itself, the senshi are helpless, Tux comes in and saves the day, and the happy end comes. No, that's not to save that re-usable scenario! That's because... ah whatever I'm tired of writing nonsense.

It's not so much that I don't like the show as much as it is I dont like HER. All throughout the show she never really changes or matures much. That really annoyed me. Even in a 'hate' thread, not everyone is going to feel the exact same way, and you are going to get people from the other side that are going to post opposing opinions, just like in a thread in which some people 'like' something, you are going to get a couple of people that say they feel differently.
As for me, i'm not trying to be rude, but I do like to quote people and post my own/facts and opinions in regards to what they have said - and i've learned to do that in a more mature and respectful way, so it gets my point across.
Sailorchibimoon did have a point - it's kinda pointless to have a entire topic about hating anything, where everyone basically says the same thing .. for 83 pages, often with no reason for why they feel that way (not that it's always needed, but it just makes more sense). And it just goes on and on and on for an eternity, until it either just dies or gets closed for length/flaming (not a big surprise.)

I like to think I'm fairly open-minded when it comes to modding ;p I figure if there's going to be a large fan-base for an anime, with lots of threads for them to post in, then it's only fair to allow threads for people who don't like (or hate, as the case may be) that same anime. That's what happens with popular anime...you get both ends of the spectrum.
However, I also try to prevent those same threads from being closed for flaming by stopping the fights before they start. Want to discuss reasons for liking/disliking Sailor Moon? Fine. Want to go into the Anti-Sailor Moon thread and flame people for not liking your favorite show? Not fine. The grey area in between are people who try entering into intelligent debates about their chosen side with members on the opposing side. Unfortunately, as a grey area, I am left to deal with those situations according to my own discretion. I ask that people try to respect the decisions I make and, should they have a problem with something, bring it up with me in private discussion. I've been known to change my mind on decisions after discussions with members before (Me? Wrong? Neeever ;p), but I don't take kindly to being attacked for those same decisions publicly on the board.
Anyway, I hope that clears up the mod's stance on the matter. Continue as you will XD

I just don't find any interest in the show, what so ever.
Maybe the only main reason is because of the clothes,
the little Sailor scouts wear. It just plain bugs me.

I don't hate the Sailormoon anime either ^^ However, it got too long, with the same repetitive things (enemy threatens the world, monsters attack/possess people that the Scouts know, what a coincidence!). I skip episodes just to find out what will happen in the ending. The Sailorstars part was rather strange... what with guys turning to girls, but I did finish the series. I still watch it every now and then.

They were something all right. My hubby and I used to joke that if every senshi were to have a full transformation in one episode, that would BE the episode.

It is my favorite anime/manga. I'm a Moonie. Sailor Moon was my first anime that I ever watched and liked.
I agree the dubbed versions are horrible. The censors butchered the show to pieces. The original show was for all age, but they turned it into a show for 10 year old girls. I am so glad Anime has become more accepted in America.
The original version is really amazing. Sure it is repitive, but what show isn't to some extent.
Here is the plot for DBZ:
Gokou and friends encounter new enemy
New enemy beats the crud out of Gokou and friends
Gokou and friends find some hidden inner strength
The enemy laughs and show them their "true power"/transformation
Gokou gets beat again and one of his friends die
Gokou gets angry and finds some new strength again
The enemy laughs again and says something like you have only seen 75% of my power and powers up
Gokou powers up again defeats the enemy in a 10 minute fight that goes on for just as many episodes
Repeat over again.
Most animes repeat. It is called marketing. You have something good so make more of it.

Actually SM is a good anime for young girls and if you hate it, don't watch it. Its easy. I don't like Dragon Ball and i don't watch it because this anime isn't interesting for me. I don't like bashers who say "OMG!! SAILOR MUN IS SO STUPIT, USAGI IS A DAMN FOOL11!!!11" You can dislike Usagi and other girls for their personality, everybody has own taste, but I think, its really weird when one person hates ALL girls. Why? Girls from the show have so different personalities and you can't hate them all. Anyway, why do you call the anime stupid? Its not stupid. It says about many important things and teaches a lot of things; you shouldn't give up, its never too late, love and friendship are very important in life etc. so the show isn't stupid.

If it wasn't for the fact I'd be thrown in jail never to raise a family with the woman I love...I'd slaughter the bastards and *****es that ruined a beautiful story when it was dubbed into English.....
I absolutely love the original subbed version. And now that I've seen the tradgic Pretty Guardian I'm out of new Sailormoon... *gets a fire in my eyes* Which makes me even more determined to get Kame o Tenshi completed!! I may be the author and know every twist and turn of the multi-layered plot but I sill wanna watch it!! *shakes the stars from my eyes* sorry about that. I get really passionate about Kame o Tenshi, a project I've been workingon for 7 yrs now.
Anyhow, while I do abhore what was done to the story by DiC in the 90's I must admit that as my gateway anime it holds a nostolgic place in my heart. And those that know the dub and the uncut sub will see there were two writers, not one as credited working for DiC. I just wonder if the good one or the bad one was credited. If I ruined as many eps as that one writer, no way I'd want to be credited.
As for the Cloverway dub, I've said it before and I'll say it again: The Cloverway dub can just burn in hell.

I can understand why people would dislike the show, and I certainly don't think it's the greatest thing I've ever seen. Not by a long shot. However, I DO think anime fans in the states have to give it credit as one of the turning points in anime being brought over, dubbed and subtitled. Sailor Moon's undeniable popularity opened doors to introducing the anime that I'm sure some of you know and love right now. Heck, I know that up until Sailor Moon, I wasn't nearly as interested in anime. I had seen other anime (especially from back in the 80's when I didn't know they -were- anime) movies and the like, but somehow Sailor Moon was different.
I mean, if I'm being honest, I find the story and characters of Sailor Moon to be far deeper than, say, the overly popular Inu Yasha. That's just my opinion, though, and it means that I avoid the latter like a plague, and don't hunt for more reasons to dislike it.

Okay, now see, this is the type of post which makes me very very upset with people, first of all, Apollo Nice Job on finding the article that you did, however me being a typical male, I'm not that smart right? so of course I'll just fly off the handle like everyone else.
Me being a member of this community, more importantly than that MALE, I find IxK's Remark both distasteful and disrespectful, I care not about the thread of Sailor Moon now, as I originally did, but I had to comment on this.
I don't think Apollo made any effort to seem like an *** by posting this, as a matter of fact, I believe he was defending himself, so please take that into consideration when looking at this post.
Myself, I'm greatly outraged and would like to point out, that KxI made numerous spelling mistakes in her argument that girl's are smarter than boy's
What urks me here is that something like ANIME (which I believe we can all come to an agreement that we love) is causing such a problem to boil down to a person taking a shot at gender.
I'd continue to post on how I truly feel about this person and the way she did that(as I tried when I was younger to BREAK the stereotype of maleness by acting more polite) only to have it thrown in my face here.
So I take great offense to this :) and to the Mod's, if I overstepped my boundries in a thread, I do apologize. - but before this turns into a flame war? Someone lock this - the comment was not called for at all.

I have to agree with NovaStar and Archangel Apollo that xxInuyashaxKagomexx comment was unfair and disrespectful to all males..
I dont believe females are smarter than males.There are some things females can do and some things males can do, We shouldnt stereotype because not all men are the same,not all female are the same either,We should all try to get along..Like i said before i dont hate salior moon...I just dont like it.

You might want to learn how to spell "intelligent" and "proven" before you make such statements. Irony is delicious.
Oh, and it was never proven. I don't know what kind of "evidence" you've seen - probably something in a Cosmo magazine.

*AHEM* Getting back on Topic and not turning this into a flame thread whatsoever even though it was partly my fault
I don't mind Sailor Moon at all, I think that because for many it was the First anime they'd ever seen that It really to them, doesn't hold up, and that's understandable, I mean you've seen alot, you've watched alot more since then and of course you're going to change your opinion of a series
Let's face facts here: The Dub? was absolutely HORRIBLE(Again, Just opinion of mine, I guess I shouldn't call it fact, but I will to make a point) and the editing was amazingly horrible (Zoicite's Gender change for example due to the undertones of Zoicite's and Malicite's(SP?) relationship in the series.
That ALL ASIDE: I still give Sailor Moon My Props for being a classic series
Do I hate Sailor Moon? No
Do I think Sailor Moon Sucks? No
Do I think There's Far better out there than Sailor Moon Right now? Yes but that does not discount Sailor Moon being a series that I enjoyed growing up. :)

I'm sorry about the guys who were affected by that, and I'm really embarrassed because of her abused English :( I'd like to note that she misinterpreted the first post, and someone should have noticed that.
Back to Sailor Moon... I'm glad this thread lives on, a good contrast to all those "I love blah-blah threads". But, let's all be civil. If you have a point to prove, it wouldn't hurt to use proper English too.

I don't really hate it or love it but I'm just going to say my opinion ~ desu. I just watch it just because my sis does ~ desu. The show's too girly for me and the transformations of Sailor Moon? They just suck ~ desu. In the anime, the only character worth my time is Sailor Saturn, cause she's not like all the other Sailors who has too girly attitudes ~ desu.

Show is immature,storyline is pretty bad,characters lack in good background story and not to mention action...
I know it's because they're old series,but they arent any older than Saber Rider,Lupin or Mazinger...Still,despite of olderness,these shows are great!
Too bad...with better storyline...and better action...who knows...
