i just recently discovered this manga. pretty good.... in my opinion of course, i really like the animation, and the character aren't bad either. and just wonderin' do they sell at like suncoast or something? i've been trying to find more issues but have had no luck.

Ghost of the Rave, Fruits Basket (or Furuba) is about a girl, Tohru, and the Sohma family. Tohru, who is an orphan, has somehow (it's explained in the series) started living in a tent...unknowingly doing so on Sohma property. Good thing that Shigure Sohma and his cousin Yuki (the two who live there) are such kind people. They take Tohru in, and in exchange she cooks and cleans for them. Yuki is in Tohru's grade, and is the school "prince." He even has a fan club. Everything seems to be going great now that she's started living with these kind men, until one fateful day when Tohru discovers that there's a curse on the Sohma family! There are certain members of the family that, if hugged by a member of the opposite sex, will turn into an animal from the Chinese zodiac! No one outside the family had ever been allowed to know of this secret before, and the head of the family is a real scary control-freak, so Tohru's future is quite questionable now.

It's filled with lots of laughs, lots of tears, and just...lots of good. It's a good series, both in manga and in anime form. Fantastic characterization, really. The characters have such depth to them... It's likely to become a favorite of most who watch/read it.

Dorkie...learn to use the edit button instead of TRIPLE FREAKING POSTING. Okies? And I don't think anyone should answer your questions, really... Just wait for the manga. The anime won't tell you. And if none of us here speak Japanese, therefore have not read the raw versions that have been released already, and so have to wait for it to slowly be released in English, too...then how CAN anyone answer your questions? Ask yourself that.

I just finished watching Fruits Basket on saturday night i burst into tears even after i had finished watching it i would just think of kyo and burst into tears again this was such a sad ending. But i loved the anime it was so funny but it also had its sad moments.

o_O I didn't think the dub was that bad. And Momiji was a little less nails-on-chalkboard for me in the English one than he was in the Japanese. Although I hated both his voices, really... For the most part, they did a rather good job capturing the characters' personalities with the voices. Sure, not all of them were perfect, but neither were the Japanese cast... Momiji being one example, and my dear sweet Ayame being another (his voice annoyed me in both, too, actually...). But those are to only name a couple. Sigh...don't get me ranting about how just because it's in Japanese, it doesn't really make it better... There are just as many horrible Japanese voice actors as there are English ones...

o_O Like I said in my last post, Momiji's Japanese voice hurt me. A lot. This isn't a thread about dubs vs. subs, so I'll try not to go into my long rant about how not all dubs are utter crap, and how there are a LOT of bad Japanese voice actors. I think a reason why people don't always REALIZE that the Japanese voice actor sucks is because they are not familiar enough with the language and the common inflections to denote different emotions... So, they are unaware that the way the voice actor did it was cheezy/bad/stupid. Also, most sub snobs simply seem to think that just because it's in Japanese, that it's perfect and exactly how it should be. Which isn't true...because bad casting happens in any country. I had a Japanese friend who used to complain all the time about horrible seiyuu, or how this particular seiyuu was a bad choice for this character, and that one for that character, etc.

So, no, the English dubs can't always sound like the Japanese cast. But sometimes that's for the best....trust me.

Anyway i really like Haru... i think he is just so cute.... also "Prince" Yuki... he is awesome. Kyo i think may be my favorite because i can relate to him. Like his being the cat and being excluded from alot of things.... anyway... As far as I know they will not, I repeat, not be getting together. They only see each other as close friends. When Yuki told Tohru in the manga that he loved her he meant it in the fashion of a mother/son relationship.

He can not see himself and Tohru getting together because thier such close friends, but one thing is for certain, the manga isn't over yet, and there yet may be more romance between the both of them ;) !!!

I think there are ALOT of anime's with drama romance and comedy... I mean ALOT... Seriously... I mean so much that theres more Drama/Romance/Comedy than just Drama, Romance and Comedy by themselves added together... o.O;;Well Furba is one of the few cases when these are taken to the extreem,
The Comedy is out there and hillarious not just thrown in for comic releif like some other Animes do. And the Drama is not the center of it like in some other Animes. And the Romaance is quite enigmatic. What makes Fruits Basket special is that it is quite multi-fasceted and the charictors are very three-dimensional (in personality, not the art, hehe)

Hmmm... I think you got it backward... There's more drama that comedy... either that or they're pretty equal... After the anime(In the manga) they focuz more on Touru breaking the Juuinishi curse... Yes, there is comedy and romance... but alot of it is drama... Problems with the juuinishi animals lives... Problems with Hana and Uotani... And problems with Tohru...

Its mostly drama... Believe me...

And I don't think the comedy is taken to the extreme... Lol... Its just... there. Lol... Yeah, i laughed in some parts but I wasn't rolling on the floor... The only part I really laughed was like... when Shigure was laughing at Tohru for living in a tent... And that was in the beginning of the anime... o.O;;

I've read the first two mangas of that one, and seen up to where I've read in the show. I thought it was funny that the one guy who acts all tough turns into a seahorse. Not much comedy at all unfortunately, but it's still a good manga.

I've been talking to a lot of people on this series and this manga and so far everyone I've talked to has said the same thing "It's terrific" but they won't tell me the whole story. Okay i post on this one forum like as much as possiple but i have to tell some people the truth about Tohru and Yuki.

As far as I know they will not, I repeat, not be getting together. They only see each other as close friends. When Yuki told Tohru in the manga that he loved her he meant it in the fashion of a mother/son relationship.

He can not see himself and Tohru getting together because thier such close friends, but one thing is for certain, the manga isn't over yet, and there yet may be more romance between the both of them ;) !!!

I Personally don't like the idea of having another series of furuba anime. I like it the way it ends. It gives the world a reason to read the manga, which in my opinion, is better.

Kyo has already admitted that he loves Tohru AND Tohru is already in love with him but she refuses to acknolage that beacuse she thinks that if she does then her mother wont be as important to her because Tohru swore on the day Kyoko died that she would be the most important person in Thoru's life so clearly theres no room for Yuki! Its so sad...

And Kyo new Tohrus mom becuase he would see her every day after school and talk to her. They became friends and one day, when Thoru became lost Kyo promised to find her. When Yuki found her Kyo was devistated because he couldn't save Tohru. When Thoru's mom tried to comfort Kyo he got angry and said the Tohru's mom had brtrayed him. After that day he never spoke to her again.
Then on the day she died, he saw her. Not only did he see her, he saw the car that hit her comming. He had to make a choice: To grab her and expose his secret, or to let her die and remain a secret. He chose his own selfish desires and Thoru's mom died...

OMG!!! That is so freakin' sad!!! I can't believe it. I mean c'mon. How are they gonna love each other now???

Also, Akito has realized that it is all 'her' fault for everyone hating her. And she confronted Kureno about it saying that he was free to leave. But Kureno chose to stay, not because he loves 'her', but because he wanted to help her realize the truth that she could love the zodiac members. Drove into a rage of maddness, Akito jumps onto Kureno and stabs him in the back with a KNIFE!!! saying that he should have left when he had the chance!

P.S. I think Yuki and Kagura should get together.

P.P.S. I also think that Shigure and Saki Hanajima should get together, his bouncy personality and her mature nature would balance each other out and they'd be complete! I mean is Arisa Uotani gets Kureno, if Kureno doesn't die, then shouldn't Saki get someone too???

Waahh!! I can't wait long enough for volume 19. I want to have the manga or at least read it from any site hosting Furuba manga. Iv'e got this chance to read the manga from volume 10 to 18up to chapter105 and after reading...it makes me wanna read more as if no stopping. And for now, Im waiting for the enlish translation of volume 19 to be updated on the site hosting furuba since the said volume has been released recently in the market. I've heard that volume 19 is focusing mainly on Kyo+tohru relationship & circumstances regarding the curse threatens them apart. Waahh! wak naman sana!!!:(
