i was searching for Sailor Moon DVD boxsets the other day and i realized something. The episodes in the last season (Stars) run up to episode 200. But, even on the japanese uncut versions of the boxsets, if you add up all the episodes from each set, theres only 193 episodes. If you look at the boxsets for Sailor Moon, R, S, and Super S, they end at around 159 episodes. But Sailor Stars begins at Episode 167 and ends at 200. Now i thought it just may be a typo or something but i did the math and there are 7 episodes missing (numbers 160-166) can anyone help me out here. But son't say it has anything to do with the japanese vs. the american versions, cause, like i said, i was looking at uncut japanese versions of the DVDs.

Well, now...That is very ood right there. I would not know what to tell you other than...That's pretty messed up. Even if you would count the R, S, and Super S movies as episodes...That would only equal up to 196 episodes...Hmm...

All I can say is that SM has waay to many episodes to begin with. >> Granted, not half as many as DBZ and at least SM has a plot (somewhat) Unlike DBZ, but still-there are far too many.

I haven't researched it at all, but have you counted the 3 Super S specials? And I know there were a handful of episodes not dubbed in the first place. Were they also not carried over to the subtitled boxset?

ok nvm, i figured it out. there are actually 89 episodes (combined) in the japanese versions of seasons 1 and 2. the websites list it as there being only 82. so if you add those, they form the missing episodes. The reason all the Sailor Stars DVD's start at 167 instead of 160 is because there were 7 episodes removed from seasons 1 and 2 (i dont know exactly where they were removed from). thus the website lists Super S as ending at 159 but Sailor Stars Beginning at 167. In the fully japanese versions of the show, those episodes are actually there in the first 2 seasons and there would be no gap (since there is no english dubbed version of Stars it would list it as though those episodes were included earlier in the series).

Well, the Japanese version of the first season's ending is two episodes, while the dubbed was cut down to one. There was also one (pre-Ami) about Usagi's family possibly getting rid of Luna due to Shingo's allergies. Another about a trip to a haunted house (including Rei, Usagi, and Ami). Another about the infamous Sailor Venus past. Yet another in the second season about the senshi and ChibiUsa taking a trip to an island and coming across a dinosaur (o.O).
Those are the only cut episodes I'm familiar with, though there must be a few more.

Your answer: 7 eposides total from the 1st 2 seasons were scraped during making. So although there were going to be 200 episodes only 193 were aired.

might want to count the movies too, there's rumored to be four movies all together, one for each initial season and the three specials and the several cut from seasons one and two, some websites usually over calculate and others under

for one thing, the dubbed versions of sailor Moon combined episodes 45 and 46 into one absolutely horrible 22 minute episode that took out all reference to death and destruction. In other words they sanitized the entire show in america which no doubt hurt its popularity greatly. Its the only dub I truly hate.

I totally agree with you Innotech, I always try to get the Japanese version because, It's the real story line from the manga; actually, I like the manga version better..........
Oh, by the way drakfire_destiny, I found out that in the Stars series does'nt actually end with Usagi and Mamoru kissing in the moonlight (well, in the anime version it does) but in the manga it ends with Usagi and Mamoru getting married!!!!! Yay 4 them!!!

A lot of episodes are excluded from the dubbed seasons. I think there's like 5 episodes all about Minako, that were excluded.

I think the episodes are lost...but now you got me wondering...I will be looking into that now. But I think we will probably never know. Translation error? I know counting in Japanese can be confusing when you get in the higher numbers XD

Well yea, but the chick who started this was wondering why they were missing from the subbed verion too. Of course I don't know if she has the bi-lingual shiz or if she's got 'em bootlegged without any english voice acting at all...6^^

OK, here is the deal:
The Dub skipped the following episodes from seasons 1 and 2:
Jap. #2 - "I'll Punish You! The Fortune House is a Yoma's Mansion!" - Deleted because Umino (Melvin) looks up the teacher's skirt, amoung other mean things.
Jap. #5 - "The demonic scent! Shaneera steals love!" - No idea why it was deleted - it showed how Luna was accepted into the family, while Usagi's younger brother gets attacked.
Jap. #6 - "Protect the song of love! Usagi playes cupid!" No idea why it was deleted - subliminal music that drains energy was featured.
I can guess that these two were deleted to get Ami and Rei into the series sooner, but that is only my own guess.
Jap. #20 - "Summer, Ocean, Youth! Also a ghost!" - Deleted due to it having nothing to do withthe main plot - the girls head to a beach for summer break, and find a haunted house.
Jap. # 42 - "Sailor Venus' Past, Minako's Blighted Love!" - It made no sense to delete this episode which revealed good background info on Minako, and first showed how the girls figured out how to lure out the Dark Kingdom's (Negaforce's) base.
Jap. # 45 and 46 - These two episodes, that tell the end of the first season, became one episode in American release. Edited severely to make it happier and avoid death (though they did a bad job covering death up).
Jap #67 - "Ocan, Island, Vacation! A Warrior's Day Off!" - like episode 20, this has nothing to do with the main plot, where the girls visit Rei while she is at an island practicing spells. Chibi Usa (Rini) runs off and befriends a baby dinosaur. The island's volcano then erupts, forcing the girls to save the dinosaur. The only episode in the second season skipped.
Regrettably, #67 is the only episode of Sailor Moon I have not seen (not including the specials, though I have seen the three movies), as ADV was not able to get the master copy from Toei and therefore left it off their release.
This makes 7 skipped episodes. Reinserted, that would make 200 episodes. The offical ADV releases of Seasons 1 and 2 unedited and subtitled include the missing episodes, except #67. S and SuperS from Geneon are complete. StarS, of course, has not yet been relesaed officially in America, as touched upon on other threads. I recomend getting fansubs, I do not trust some of the foriegn release subtitles, they can be inaccurate and/or grammatically awful. The subs I have are great.
One more note: ADV's releases of the first 2 seasons do not include the dub (only Japanese track is on the discs) and are 99% complete, as I mentioned. They are, however, discontinued. If you want those releases, look for them at EBay or other small stores.
Here are what they look like, so there is no confusion:

I remember reading somewhere (this was quite some time ago...) that the suggestion was that episode was removed because Luna was kicked in it o.O Why that's a problem in face of all the cold-blooded murder that goes on is beyond me, but...eh, there you have it.

I would assume so yes. So I guess I'll retract my statement. lol. I'd never get the American version if I was ever to get it at all. I'd go for the bootlegged stuff. Purer, better and funnier in all reapects. ^^
