Robotech spawned Gundam?! Excuse me, but I have to point out that the original Gundam was first aired about three years IIRC, before the first episode of Super Dimension Fortress Macross (the first saga in Robotech) was shown.

how is the gundam series better! in all cases there are similarities:
1) A whiney girly pilot from a neutral colony.
2) The inconsiderate girl who yells at the pilot for participating in the war.
3) Weak enemies and background characters who couldnt stop the french army
4) An expirimental Ship that miraculosly never dies
5) The Uber Mech that ends up fighting another uber mech, or a 'mobile armor' in the final episodes.....generally involving a personal friend of the pilot.

These are the guidelines to a gundam series......although things like SD gundam or G-Gundam(?) cant really be considered in all of this....thats cuz the directors were high when they made them.

As I recall Amuro and Char are not friends. Nor is Judau and Haman, Camille and Haman, or Kira and Rau.

Lacus does not yell at Kira for being involved in the war, nor do any girls from any Gundam series I can think of, save Victory Gundam.
The Near Argama from Gundam ZZ is not experimental.
The Gundams only seem like uber mechs coz the pilots are usually Newtypes, IE Psychic.
I will concede the weak enemies point tho :p

Anyways, quick fact, in the original Gundam Novels, the RX-78-2 gundam got destroyed by the Elemeth. And as for the inconsiderate girl, that's only in Seed and Wing (Probally the only Gundam Monster has seen apart from Seed). And as for background characters being weak, ever heard of Yazan Gable, Challina Bull, Ramba Ral, Emma Sheen, Recoa Londe or the Cyclops Team?

And as for Experimental ships, I need not mention the eventual fate of the White Base. Hmm as for Neutural Colonies, Camile Bidan was from Green Noa, which was a base of the Titans and under clear Federation control. Judau Ashta was from Shangri-La which was run by the Federation. Uso Ebbing was from Earth, Seabrook from Frontier 4 which was a Federation base, and Loran Cehak was actually one of the Moonrace who colonised Earth.

I love both Gundam and Macross and am a massive fan of both. Although Gundam did inspire Macross to an extent, they are both far too different to compare. Macross is a love story while Gundam is a military drama, the only similarity is that they feature a war, and giant robots.

I would have to say that Robotech is better than gundum. Why? Because a Varatech can transform into a plane, half plane half batteloid, and a battleoid. Only the WIng gundum could transform into a jet. The Veratech would win because of sher versitilty. Besides the battleoids seem a heck of alot more manuverable than a gundum. I mean yes gundums have rokets in their backs but the battleoid has jets in it's back, feet and legs making it extremly manuverable. The only advantage i can see for the gundum is its beam saber in close combat. If you compare the RX-78 to the average Battloid it would have a hight advantage of about 5 feet. But i still have to give the edge to the battloid because of sher versitility.

I will take your word for it, as I have never, and probably will never see Robotech. Also, Gundams are quite maneuverable. It is not the NUMBER of rockets, but the manner in which you control them that makes maneuverability improve.

good point confucious, but a battle pod's weaponry includes (but not limited to) 4x Beam Cannons 10x(more) cluster missle pods, and a few Ballistic missles(with the shoulder launchers)

and the robotech ground infantry is cool looking

Again, the amount of weaponry doesn't matter if you can't hit anything with it. Also, I think Gundams have the best armor.

Both of you make good points. But if you put an average Veratech against an average Gundum the Veratech would win. Gudumulz you need to watch Robotech before you start saying that the gundum is better than the Veratech. If you haven't seen it then don't around saying that a gundum is better than a Veratech because you don't have all the facts.

Me i have seen most of the gundum series and i have seen Robotech, that's how i know that a Veratech could hold it's own in a battle with a gundum.

You are right, and I apologize for my misinformed opinions. I just don't think it is accurate to base something like that solely on the mech. The pilot factors in alot. Like in SEED Destiny where Athlun is able to hold his own against a Gundam using a Zaku.

Hmmm comparing a Valkyrie to a Gundam would be an interesting thing. I'd say honestly it would depend on the pilot. A Newtype pilot could waste any of Macross' array of weapons no matter who the pilot was. Except mabye Max Jenus.

Any psycommu controlled MS or MA would easily send any Valkyrie or Destroid to the scrap heap no questions asked though.

OK i guess we can allagree that some gundums could beat the Veratech and than the Veratech could beat some gundums. It all depends.

Depends on the pilot. I think the difference in the mechas would only be determined if you had a total NOOB in both.

I would agree with that, coz in Macross 7, the only one I have seen, the pilots didn't impress me that much.

LOL! May i recomend a little prequal series called Macross 0. I think you will change your mind about Veratechs after you see it. trust me. it is the best mecha series ever created! Macross 0 is a prequal to the origianl Robotech series.

sure! it's has been fansubed, and correctly translated. I just have no idea were to download it yet. I'm still looking, but i have seen all 5 episodes alreay from when i went to an anime convention last week. IT WAS SO SWEET! the CG work was the best i have ever seen! I KNOW! go on e-bay and look for Macross 0. They might have a dvd or 2 on there.
