I've heard it is a remake of the Television series.
Sounds kinda of bad idea but maybe I'm wrong.

The movie isn't bad at all, and it dosent take place after the series. Its sort of like an alternate look on the series. The movie and series have the same story but told and drawn way differently. Theyre both really good, I cant decide which one I like better.
I wouldnt call the movie a remake, just a different persons view on the same story. Maybe like another director. (Kind of like how the evangelion tv series was told from Hideaki Anno(director), and the manga was told by Yoshiyuki Sadamoto(artist), they were the same story but told by different people). You'll like them both, trust me.

You really wanna know what's the big deal with Escaflowne? Well, let me tell you: those DISTURBINGLY ugly noses! they are just so BIG and UGLY that I could never watch the show because my eyes HURT so much that I just wanted to pick my eyeballs with a knife. I have NEVER in my whole life seen such a thing.
yeah.

Try not too compare the movie with the TV series, since they take a different angle on the outcome for each. True they use the same characters but they have different interactions between the characters. The movie was all too quick, the TV series was superb.

DISTURBINGLY ugly noses! they are just so BIG and UGLY
It was all that bad.

I remember seeing it on YtV or Foxbox, and when i saw the first episodes the music was excellent, and the way they blended cgi and animation, was nice. i autually can't decide who my favorite characters are. i never watched the movie.

what the hell is this thread doing in the romance section!?

anyway escaflowne is amazing, it is also one of my favs, the guymelath transformation sequences are superb, you can tell that the mech designers put a lot of time and effort into making them, story - it too is amazing, i cant fault anything of significance except the noses, yes the noses, there long, too long! animation is great too xD.

and the movie, another amazing master piece and with the voice talent of maaya sakamoto, yes the fomous j-pop singer (maaya' songs are great xD), not only backed by a j-idol but the battle sequence between escaflowne and the other guymelath piloted by dilandou is also a specticle to look at, the sparks form the to swords clashing. And last thing the opening of the movie, as Vaan slaughters all those people, very cool!!!

watch it, i command you too, if you havnt already that is!

I myself did not mind the noses, the only thing i did not like about the series is that through the hole story vaungh doesnt even get a kiss not even in the ending, grrrrrrrrrr
...that pissed me off so much.

[BlackDeath]
10-14-2004, 01:44 AM
Well it was different, but then again different is good, not following the others an becoming part of the flock of sheep, it was pretty origianal and also gave i a more emotional ending as Vaan parted with the one who he loved and he only realized his feeling near the end, which made you feel for him in some way.

But the noses, sometimes i would stare at them, they were distracting a bit, but i notice these things more since i am an artist ^^

I've watched both the series and the movie n i've loved them. I've heard so many people saying that didn't like escaflowne movie but i don't understand why, well maybe because it's an alternate story and not a sequence of the TV series or maybe because the design is completly different or because of the different personaly of the characters well i don't know. As for me I loved the movie the story, the music everything even more than the TV series.

what the hell is this thread doing in the romance section!?

It's one of those animes that are kind of hazy as to which catagory to put them in. There are enough romance elements in it to classify it as a romance anime/manga. It is, after all, rather shoujo-y in the series, for the most part. The movie is more shounen in style and far less romance-related.

Shouldn't this topic actually be in the Mecha/Apocalyptic section? I love this series, and want to see all of it soon.

Die Tod von Euch
11-14-2004, 07:26 PM
*points to the post she made right above GundamRulz's post* ...I think I just explained that. Also, they aren't really even mecha, are they? They're bio-mechanical, if I recall... Then again, people call Evas mecha, and they aren't...so..meh.

Anyway, your question was already answered. This is an iffy anime as far as catagorizing it. It's got a LOT of romance elements in the series, so fits here. The movie, however, would not fit here nearly as well.

Shinigami Ichigo
11-14-2004, 08:11 PM
Sorry. I only saw about half the series and that was a looooong time ago, so I don't recall much about it. Sorry for asking a stupid question *bows head*

It's ok. It's just that the question had already been answered one post ahead of you.

Now, back to the topic of the series... Dryden was my favorite, followed closely by Allan. I never really cared much for Hitomi, though...despite her being the main character. Heh.

Shinigami Ichigo

Allen is the heroic blond knight dude right?

Die Tod von Euch

Yep, he sure is. The hot, heroic, blond knight.. Mmmm...Allan...

But Dryden is the coolest, hands down.

Shinigami Ichigo

Another stupid question... who is Dryden? Sorry for asking so many stupid questions, but that is how I gain understanding.

It's been years since I've seen the series, but if I recall correctly...he's like super rich and owns some type of business. He helps Hitomi and them out for a while, and I think he may be like betrothed to one of the blonde chicks that likes Allan..or..something. Gah, I need to re-watch this show! >_<

escaflowne is really good...though i do agree with the others taht their noses are just too long but thats the unique style of the artist...i have the movie and i like it but i definetly believe that the series is better...the movie seemed to squish everything together so that when you watch it and van and hitomi meet suddenly theres the end! lol...but its still great...

I loved the movie and from what I saw of the series. But the series isn't available here, so I had to pirate it. =\ Thus being why I didn't see all of it. I stopped on like.. episode twenty-six. It sucks.

But, I'd have to say that Van and Folken made me giggle with glee. =) I like the whole concept of I guess what is their race. It's very capturing. Van in the movie.. freaked me out a little. With his introduction as a phsycotic killer. x_x And the blue paint was kind of weird with that butt-flap. =P

Dilando always scared me, but I like the hole idea of him and how it all worked out. =\ Makes me really wish I could have seen the entire series.

Shinigami Ichigo

Isn't the show 26 episodes? I know that CN is going to show the movie this year, so I am wondering if they might re-air the series?

Die Tod von Euch
04-24-2005, 05:22 PM
Ithuriel, your locations says you're in Michigan... Which would imply that you live in America... Which would mean you live in a country where the entire series was in fact released and is in fact available. If you can't find it in a physical store, there's always ordering online... And Shinigami Ichigo is correct, there are only 26 episodes to the series. So, I suppose that it makes sense you had to stop there..since it's the final episode.

Shinigami Ichigo
04-24-2005, 05:30 PM
I thought it was only 26 episodes, though I only saw like 15 or so on Fox before it was cancelled a few years ago. I hope that CN will air the rest of it, as I enjoy that series (though I need to get past the noses)

Skyrise
04-24-2005, 07:16 PM
First, I guess I am mistaken about the episode number. I can't be exactly correct because it's been about a year or so since I've even seen Escaflowne.

As for finding it in stores, there is a rental store over here. But they do not have it. I also cannot buy it because I do not have that kind of money to waste. I don't see why any of that is even valid. -_-;

Shinigami Ichigo

Well, if you have time, a decent computer, and a good net connection, I recommend fansubbed anime. It is free, and can be gotten off the internet if you know where to look.

Die Tod von Euch
04-24-2005, 11:02 PM
Haaa.. I agree with you about the noses, Ichigo. It took a bit for me to get over those, too.

Don't know if CN or another network would ever bring it back and show it in full. It's one of those shows that were edited like crazy for TV, but you could get the full thing uncut on VHS or DVD....

And yeah, downloading fansubs is certainly the way to go for the ones of us who are broke. Only problem is that things like Escaflowne are often hard to find to download, because most places take down anime that's been domestically released (at least, they legally should).

Skyrise
04-24-2005, 11:06 PM
Their noses are like.. Eek. o_o I'm surprised they aren't like.. hitting things with them. Oh my.

Downloading is how I got the episodes to begin with. But, I apparently don't remember which episode I was even on. I also don't remember where I originally started downloading them. Off of BT, no doubt. But that could be anywhere. x.o
