Why are the edges of the char so sharp? It seems like it was cut of piece by piece.

That is hard on the eyes. She's too blurry and she's also grainy. Plus the bg colour is too similar with the character's hair and dress. Choose something darker or lighter.

The main character pic needs lotsa work. And the background COULD be really pretty, but it also needs lotsa work. There's potential though. I would reccomend softening the sparklies, and toning down the bg color like the others said.

the character seems to bright, also the edges are jagged (did you go around with the polygon lasso tool?)

That's still no reason for it to be so jagged. If you know what you're doing and do it right the lasso tool does not look this... bad.
