I haven't seen X, but I have seen .hack//sign (every episode, actually). Anyways, I think it's pretty good, put that really depends on the genres you like (anime, of course).

I'd go witht he .hack series. Unless you want to be crying the WHOLE time you're watching the series of X. X is incredibly depressing, by far the most depressing of any anime i've ever seen. That's saying something.
