View Full Version : Beginner Signature of the Week #13 Voting

Bulf
09-29-2012, 07:57 PM
Theme: Freestyle

1) You do NOT have to state your reason for voting, but it’s strongly recommended you do. You are NOT allowed to campaign for any specific entry, nor should you post negative comments on any other entry that you are not voting for. You should vote based upon solely what YOU like, NOT what other people are voting for.

2) NOT FOLLOWING RULE 1 WILL RESULT IN YOUR VOTE BEING DELETED.

3) This contest is designed so entries are to remain anonymous. Any reference to missing deadlines, who entered or did not enter will result in your entry being disqualified, and your post removed. You also risk being removed from further competitions of this nature.

4) You are NOT allowed to vote for yourself. Doing so will DQ you from the contest.

I'll vote for B for the same reason GameGeeks did. Entry A is a joke and should not even count. It makes BSOTW seem like a joke as well and I do not approve. No one will take it seriously if it wins and the whole point is to become a better signature maker. I'm a highly disappointed that ANYONE would vote for it, to be honest. At least B actually tried. I would have participated, but I have been very busy lately.

While B is nice, it looks like every other signature here. At least A is both humorous and unusual (at least in my opinion).

Time and effort don't always mean everything ... there's something to be said for humor, originality and imagination.

I don't find it humorous at all. And of course it's gonna look like every other signature here. That's kind of the point, really. They're practicing to become better.

Yes, actually time and effort DO in fact mean everything. This is for beginners with a genuine interest in becoming a better signature maker so how would you feel if you spent a lot of time and effort making something and everyone was voting for an entry that is obviously but a joke. It's like I said before, if that entry wins, then there is no reason to take BSOTW seriously. It's unfair to the person who made entry B. I don't think it looks that bad and I know it deserves to win. They could work on their balance in the signature and I think maybe if they moved her (the render) to the middle and removed the subtext it would look a lot more appealing but overall, it's not bad for a beginner. Then again, I am a beginner, myself. That's part of the reason why it ticks me off so much that people are voting for entry A. I can empathize. Tbh, if it does win, my motivation to bother with BSOTW would no longer exist.

You voted, now walk away and stop trying to sway votes.

That being said, I voted.

if everyone used that logic when it comes to art, where would music be today? Conforming is way to improve your own skills. Breaking off and doing something entirely different is how you move an entire idea forward. Its called innovation. I would like for you to make a sig as simplistic as A. that is both as cute and humorous as it. Oh, and the person seems to have used MS Paint. Thats all you get to use also. So there ya go, get it done.

New is not always good. You must work hard (or at least try) to achieve success. You *should* earn it and deserve it. That's not always the case but should is the key word there.

So there ya go, get it done.
I don't have to prove myself to you! You might think you're such a boss, but if you think I'm going to do what you tell me to then you are sorely mistaken. :p

I voted and gave a legitimate reason as to why.

I never tried to sway anyone's votes, I simply stated that I was disappointed that people we're actually voting for Entry A because they think it's funny, which is unfair since the quality of a signature is what should really matter. I thought that was the whole point of this, excuse me if I was wrong.

nor should you post negative comments on any other entry that you are not voting for.

The only 'negative' thing I said about entry A was that it was a joke and shouldn't count. I don't think I was wrong to say so. It's blatantly obvious that the 'signature' was made to be a joke. I could have said worse... besides, it's not like it will hurt their feelings since it is clear that they didn't actually try!

Yes, I agree. I don't base my votes on what other people think, although this still happens, whether it is apparent that voters are guilty of it or not.

The whole reason BSOTW was brought about was to make it fair for those who participated in SOTW and could never win due to their lack of experience. So, let me ask, would it be fair that entry A might win due to lack of effort/somehow funny? Should we have a "Just For Fun Signature of the Week" then? Where it doesn't matter if we actually try or not?

Truthfully, when I first saw entry A I felt like it was 'poking fun' at BSOTW, as if beginners could not make a decent signature. Perhaps it is simply a harmless joke, but it can also be interpreted as demeaning.

That said, the purpose of BSOTW was supposed to be to test and improve your skills and, as entry A is for mere amusement, therefore, it does no such thing.

Who cares if its a joke? The theme is freestyle, thus the sig fits the theme. If you dont like it, bring it up with the host or just dont vote at all. Coming in and going on about how we shouldnt vote for A because its a joke is in violation of rule one, especially if youre going around handing out negative reps to those who vote for A. Its bullying to get others to vote for B. In the end, youre only going to get B disqualified if you continue

I've won one of these with a joke sig, so >P In the end, me and the guy the joke us about had a good laugh, and went about our day. If you don't like A, then vote for B. Simple as that. No fuss, no muss, no bull crap of people getting all worked up over nonsense. They shouldn't have even gotten worked up over my joke sig, and they did. The difference here is that they waited until the results to get worked up and some are still shocked that I don't care. I made it for the hell of it, and had fun regardless of a win or a loss.

I'm sorry, but do you read, for example xkcd (http://xkcd.com)? It's not hard to draw stick figures ... but that's not why people read xkcd. They read it because it's imaginative and humorous.

I'll campaign for signature B. The fact that signature A is even allowed in a contest is a joke. I do not see how a moderator could possibly have a problem with someone "campaigning" for a non-troll signature. Moderators are not suppose to be robots with no common sense. The fact that signature A is allow to even count is just an embarrassment to the forum.

Im sorry, I wasnt aware you had a PHD in art. Oh, you dont? Thought so. If it was accepted then it was accepted. Just vote for who you want and keep your negative opinions to yourself, AS STATED IN RULE ONE, AS IN CAMPAIGNING FOR A PARTICULAR SIGNATURE, AS IT CAN LEAD TO DISQUALIFICATION. Do people seriously not read?

Seen as I'm here, I might as well vote...

At the unintentional risk of potentially upsetting a lot of people, I'm voting for A.

But bear with me: for I has my reasons.

As @MaruDashi (http://www.animeforum.com/member.php?u=29985) said, the sig "fits the theme". It might clearly appear to be a work of little effort; maybe even an insult (to some...), but that is not Joe Public's concern--only the end effect. I do appreciate what seems to be of greater effort with B; however, I do not feel that it serves the "Freestyle" theme as well, which is why I voted for A.

Actually, nvm... seems my vote won't count anyways, now that the poll is closed (which begs the question: why's the thread still open?). Still, I stand by my point.
