I gotta say... the second I found this scan, I fell in love with it.

Anyways, I saw that this was a textured image so I knew that if it wasn't a grunge wall I'd either have to re-CG it... which would be very hard with this particular image, or it would look like crap.

So I created some custom brushes, used some others (like the blood brush set... I know it's been done, but I love it so much - it looks awesome) and played around with some low-contrast, smoothe colors to fit the scan; basically, I didn't extract this at all - I made the wall around the scan, in the sense that the scan was practically untouched.

I'm really happy with the result; nothing fancy - no super amounts of time spent.. just a beautiful scan with a background that contrasts her darkness with light (emphasis on the scan, which is good in this case).

Comments/suggestions (although I'm done, so suggestions are futile) please.

Nice work Miko! Was wondering if you could give the background some slight noises? Since the character itself looks like she has some dotted effect, I think it might match in the background. Definitely, like what you said, grunge is perfect in this case.
