By a country mile, my favourite is Zeta Gundam. As the original sequl to Tominio's ground breaking work, he realised the elements that people loved about the orginal series and emphasied them. From that we are given a tapestry of war, human suffering and the meaning behind conflict.

Zeta Gundam is as close to perfection as you can get.
