What is a Tachikoma? is it like a tomagachi (gigapet or whatever)?

For anyone that doesn't know what a Tachikoma is (and I didn't either until I looked it up ::cough::) here's (http://tachikoma.phpwebhosting.com/archives/000011.html) a website with a short explanation.
They look cool, although the explanation reminds me of the micro-robots from Michael Crichton's Prey (which, by the way, I highly recommend to any mecha/apocalypse fan). I guess I'll vote for them.

Tachikoma's were indeed children. Their AI's were programmed to be able to analyze a situation and be able to grow from it. and since you cant program experience, each tachikoma had to learn on their own with each of their unique personalities.

Yeah, I like them, but then again, I always like mechs as long as they have heavy weaponry :P

How can one not love the Tachikoma's they are probally the characters with the most personality in all of GITS:SAC
