It's a good quality pic but you've got the direction all wrong. I think the shadow should be in front of him... making him look like he got knocked back by some enemy in front. The blade should have some dust trails following it, like he's dragging it while he's being pushed back.

I played the game so I'm quite sure that from his stance, he came from above to do a downward slash. Therefore, I think it's more accurate to place the shadow trail above especially on the sword. Other than that, pretty good.

well here's (http://filebox.vt.edu/users/aales/Wallpapers/NinjaGaiden_04.jpg) the picture that i used (it's kinda big) and i had him in moving forward because i figured it'd be the least confusing. i've played the game as well and it is his stance after a downward swing (not neccisarily from a drop swing though)

ok, i've completely redone the ryu's apparent motion, i think it looks much better now. i've also added a better looking blood spray (it's supposed to be along the path that the sword travels), enjoy:
